stNNES7: Worlds and Empires

@everyone: just curious, how of you guys have orders in; the update is in 2 or three days, depeding on how you look at it, and personally, I hope he updates, eve its only my nation he's gonna be updateing for ;)

so I suggest you guys get your orders in, because, while it would be humerous to see an update with only my nation mentioned in it, itd hardley be fair, so c'mon.

@xen, if some people are lazy and don't send orders why bother telling them to send orders? People will send orders only when they feel like it and if they dun want to send orders no one can make them. just let them suffer

because people whom dont send in orders risk delaying the whole NES updates because of thier lazyness :thewankers:

well, if those people keep on being lazy despite reading our discussion and still not send orders they must be pretty thick xen. which no one here is of course :D

The Rise of the Merchants
“By the Emperor’s beard!”

“Zhao Peng, don’t you know there is a punishment for people conducting the sin of blasphemy in public? It’s bad for the children hearing you know, they don’t mind you doing it in private though.”

“As sure as my name is Li Zhao Peng, I will continue blaspheming! Did you see the Tong traders at the Song Port of Qingdao? Their ridiculous clothing that is easily made to blasphemy the Yellow Emperor? They wore yellow in open daylight! Most people outside of “Royalty” would even dare wear yellow….”

“Zhao Peng, the High Lord doesn’t think that telling all the royalty in China not to wear yellow is going to make them feel better towards Shu.”

“Don’t get me started on their clothing… Did u see their children? I saw a little girl around 6 year old wearing more revealing clothing then the worst prostitutes there are in Shu! The Tong people have no morals! And did u know what I heard? They’re planning to make a dye that glows with light! Their people are crazy, mad!”

“If they’re so crazy and mad, how come they dominate the trade of the ports of Song, and the other sea bordering lands of China?’

“Crazy ideas that is profitable! I met in Guangzhou a quite beautiful young women but with quite a brilliant mind, she was of course from Shu. She has a brilliant plan really to ship “uncompleted” goods to stores and have the stores reconstruct it thus cutting down on the shipping, and other costs allowing the stores to make a more tangible profit! Of course, some say that her plan is just plain stupid, but I for one think it’s an excellent plan. If we only had some more Lau Fan Ti, beautiful and brilliant Shu would become the greatest country in the world.”

“And while you do that, I think I’ll go buy myself some more lands from some more poor nobles that are just too lazy to do anything. Land and capital are the best investments Li.”

“Of course not, shipping and trade are much better.”

“So we part our ways once more, and in one year we’ll come back and see who’s better off…”

Very well, trade is approved. We shall send you some comely women (but not to many!), gold, silver, lead for your "silk" (my advisors tell me its wonderful) and other goods you mentioned. All we ask is that you do not colonize our claimed islands (Hokkaido and the southern one that I always forget...Kyushu?)

lurker's comment: Kyushu indeed.

From: Nippon
To: Tong Dynasty

Wait a second...how about we create an official trade route between our nations? (increase economy this turn, sacrifice next turn and build the route. Its 4 eco points).

Orders after I assure your country's doom in CapNES2, NK. Probably tomorrow.

“Excellent Tzu, all you need now is to write an essay upon a subject relevant to the Yellow Emperor and his teachings, the tools u need will be given to u when asked. Do u have any specific subjects in mind?”

“Yes, I would like to write an essay showing the difference between the Throne and the Crown in the Yellow Emperor’s case.”

“Hmm… that is a controversial subject, but neverless I believe that you will hopefully clear some of the mess up. You will have access to the lower archives of course to conduct your research. After you have written your essay and have it approved, u will become the next priest of Taiping, the seat of the Shu Lord.”

“I will do my best master.”

In two weeks, Lao Tzu returned to the Master’s office and presented the essay carved in fine bamboo titled the Dispute between the Throne and Crown.

“Marvelous, absolutely splendid, it answers many of the questions asked by the higher clergy. Hmm… your sources are all from the lower archives, it shows a lot that the clergy higher up could have done actual research instead of just arguing amongst themselves.”

Excerpt from the Dispute between the Throne and Crown

“It can be noted, that the Shu Lord and other rulers of the nations of China can refer to their institutions as the Crown of Shu for example, and it would not be heretical or against the Yellow Emperor. Since in the book 'Life in the Court of the Emperor' the Crown of the Emperor and the Throne are mentioned separately and not used together. For as the Emperor was Crowned upon his ascension to the Throne after the coup which replaced his corrupted father, the throne was already in place and symbolized as a part of the Yellow Emperor. The Crown is but another object used to for the people to recognize the Yellow Emperor and his faith shown by the few pictures from that era, the common people of the faith wore hats similar to the Crown of the Emperor but less ornate in design, while the Throne is in essence shows the power of the Emperor and thus is a “middle” man and thus holy and sacred while the Crown is a simple ornament worn by those of the holy faith…”

Once installed as Head Priest of Taiping, only under the power of the High Priest of Shu and the Holy Council of 7 he began preaching that the Yellow Emperor believed firmly that those with power and wealth had a responsibility. The responsibility was to help the not as fortunate, to support the arts, and to improve the life standings of the people. With his high standing, this idea was quickly added to the Cult along with another of Lao Tzu’s statements.

Excerpt from Encyclopedia Pengiuna on Preaching of Lao Tzu

“It can be said, no, not said, but proclaimed that the Yellow Emperor is not a mere dynast of Shu, but a dynast of all human beings under Heaven and above Earth. For he was the one that drove away Chi You with his demonic armies set to ravage the Earth and destroy the good works of mankind. He is the savior, and as he on his deathbed after an enlightened reign when the Faith is one day threatened once more by a power as great and evil as Chi You, he shall be reincarnated into a great being who shall lead the fight against the Evil and spare Humanity once more.”

As a priest, he set an example for others to follow. He visited small nursing homes where sick and injured people were at and encouraged them, talked to them, told them stories and did all in his power to keep them entertained and satisfied. He rallied the Merchants, the Artisans, and the other Burghers to cut down on the poverty of the homeless and the young street vagabonds whose parents were deceased, or were homeless. He petitioned the High Lord to raise taxes from the Aristocracy to be used to build places of culture and learning and in 3 years, his name was trumpeted throughout Taiping as the greatest Priest ever produced in that City. He was destined for the position of High Priest…

Balearic Pantheon

In the beginning there was nothing, but the Hidden One grew tired of the emptiness of his existence so he set about creating life, Auril the First Goddess was created by the energies he unleashed she was radiant and beautiful and embodied all that is good, she molded the rest of the energies into the earth. When the task was finished Jannath the Earth Mother was born she who looked upon the earth and was saddened, their was no life on the earth and Jannath begged Auril to grant her world warmth and light so life might flourish upon it.

Auril relented, igniting the sun and placing it high above the world, the Hidden One watched all of this fascinated by what his creation had accomplished in her short life but doubts begun creeping into his mind perhaps he missed his solitude the peace and calm of nothingness, but from his thoughts and worries a new being was born. Tiamat, who took the form of a many-headed serpent, she represented everything that was evil in the universe Hatred, Fear, Pain, disease and Loss. Tiamat is consumed by the need to return the flawless void and darkness that was erased at the beginning of time by an uncaring deity, she looked upon Jannath and Auril as they sculpted the landscape of Earth creating rivers, planting trees, raising mountains she was outraged and launched herself at Auril.
Tiamat_p93.gif

Auril was no match for her tormented sister who tore her asunder, elated by her bloody victory she was already turning her attention to Jannath but the godly energies that had created Auril burst from her corpse deeply wounding Tiamat and creating the stars and the moon so even at night there is light Tiamat suffers because she shrives in darkness, a part of the godly Aura that came from Auril continued its assault upon Tiamat and took two separate forms Savros lord of nature and Garagos the god of war, they drove the wounded Tiamat into the shadows but could not slay her, there she licked her wounds but vowed to destroy them like she did Auril.

The other gods came into being shortly after Tiamat was driven away, Savros assumed leadership and he gave every god their powers and overseered the construction of the Crystal Spire where all the gods but Jannath and Tiamat dwell. The Hidden One was stricken by grief for inadvertently causing the bloody death of his “daughter” and for bringing to life another who hates her own existence, so he hides himself away from the others hoping he doesn’t cause more pain, only Tiamat knows of him for she is racked by all his emotions grief, loss, hate and his thoughts and plots to rid herself of these maddening feelings, these voices and return to the calm nothingness.

The Gods

Savros “lord of cycles” – is the leader of gods controls the weather and seasons
savros_p69.gif

Garagos “god of war” – Second only to Savros fights many battles against Tiamat but succumbs more and more to bloodlust and mindless fury to defeat her

Church of Garagos

Garagos does not win battles, he helps the deserving warrior win battles. War is fair in that it oppresses and aids all equally and that in any given battle, a mortal may be slain or become a great leader among his companions. Remember the dead that fell before you. Defend what you believe in, lest it be swept away. Disparage no foe and respect all, for valour blazes in all regardless of age, sex, or race. Garagos looks favourably upon those who acquit themselves honourably without resorting to craven tactics tricks as destroying homes, family, or livestock when a foe is away. Consider the consequences of the violence of war and do not wage war recklessly. The smooth tongued and fleet of feet that avoid all strife and never defend their beliefs wreak more harm than the most energetic tyrant or raider.

Grimgnaw “Smith King” “The Father” – the Tireless smith of the gods creating the weapons of war, after he constructed the Crystal Spire her molded we humans we are his finest creations, his weapons to fight the power of Tiamat we must spread our culture, law and order to combat Tiamats corrupting influence over the world
grimg.jpg

Taimat “nemesis of the gods” “maiden of pain” “mistress of disease” – Pain, strife, hatred, fear, murder, deception, darkness, chaos, bloodlust, loss, betrayal, cruelty, greed, agony and disease. She controls and feels all of these, she corrupts mortals with her mere existence and gods by physical presence having particular effect on Garagos and Umberlee, but she only intends to destroy them not corrupt.

all foriegners are assumed to corrupted by Tiamat in some way or worship her openly.

Bane “loyal fury” “the Guardian” – Bane represents duty, loyalty, obedience the son of Savros and Jannath he was given the duty to protect Earth from Tiamat and has served diligently for no attack of Tiamats has ever reached earth, but whenever there is a storm or lighting strikes those are the sounds of battle between Bane and Tiamat.

Church of Bane

Salvation may be found through service. Every failure of duty diminishes bane and every success adds to his lustre. Strive to maintain law and order. Obey your masters with alert judgement and anticipation. Stand ever alert against corruption. Strike quickly and forcefully against rot in the hearts of mortals. Bring painful, quick death to traitors. Question unjust laws by suggesting improvement or alternatives, not additional laws. Your threefold duties are to faith, family and masters.

Jannath “earth mother” – the second oldest god the wife of Savros she bore him two children Bane and mielikki, she is the god of agriculture leaving the wilder aspect of nature to her daughter.

Church of Jannath

Growing and reaping are a part of the eternal cycle and the most natural part of life. Destruction for its own sake and levelling without rebuilding are anathema. Let mo day pass in which you have not helped a living thing flourish. Nurture, tend, and plant wherever possible. Protect trees and plants, and save their seed so that what is destroyed can be replaced. See to the fertility of the earth but let human womb see to its own.

Sharess – Sharess is the goddess of love, she inherited Auril beauty and enjoys meddling in the affairs of mortals.

Mielikki “Forest Queen” – The goddess of nature, she protects the wilds and dislikes the encroachment of civilization.

Umberlee “***** queen” – she controls the seas but by helping Bane drive off Tiamat on numerous occasions she has been driven mad.
Umberlee_.gif

Church of Umberlee

The Sea is a savage place and those that travel it had best be willing to pay the price for challenging umberlee’s domain. All should know the ***** queen and fear her, for the wind and wave can reach everywhere if sufficiently angered. Fair offerings bring fair winds to sea travellers, but those that do not pay their respects will find that the sea is as cold as Umberlee’s heart

Balpheron “judge of the damned” – he makes the decision which souls joins the gods in the Crystal Spire or which Tiamat digests for all eternity.

Searinox “master of vengeance” – Mites out punishments and grants mortals requests for vengeance

damn pictures wont show

“Administrator, bronze cannot dominate the world forever.”

“Are you plotting against the Shu Crown merchant? Your idea is preposterous and is just a waste of good tin that could be used into making bronze instead of your crazy ideas for using it as “houseware” making cups and pans out of it! A waste of good metal! Now begone! Guards, take him away!”

Outside, Zhang Shi Li cursed the Administrator, the narrow-minded fool. Anyone with brains could have seen what the future held, and that tin and copper with bronze would one day become another metal like copper had been before the bronze. Useless, and Shu’s economy would likely come crashing down and doom his people. Unknown to himself, he started crying and never saw a kindly young man walk towards him.

“Why are you crying on such a sunny and delightful day under Heaven?”

Shi Li looked up and move back a few inches instinctively. In front of him was Head Priest Lao Tzu who looked nothing like the legendary sage and enlightened prophet that the artists had been drawing. But neverless, he had already a reputation for being progressive minding and as he was a member of the Council of 7 the power of the Cult was slowly turned onto making Shu more and more progressive, looking towards the future.

“Head Priest, the administrator refuses to allow me to buy some of the tin to be used as cups, frying pans, and other civilian goods. He says that bronze’s superiority in battle shall last forever and-“

“You need to say no more My Son, come with me and we will talk some sense into the Administrator.”

The guards at seeing Shi Li moved to block him, but seeing the figure behind him, Lao Tzu they immediately opened the door and with all courtesies let Lao Tzu and Shi Li in. Inside, the Administrator immediately called for tea and other snacks for the Priest.

“My Head Priest, what honor it is for you to visit me, and eh… Li Shi, how are you?”

“Administrator, I have come to ask that u allow a portion of the tin produced in Shu to be sold to the respectable young man here for use in civilian production outside of bronze including but not excluding casing, covering over more easily corrosive metals and etc. Do I make myself understood?”

“Of course Head Priest” was all that the Administrator said before Lao Tzu and Li Shi walked out.

“Em.. Head Priest?”

“You can just call me Lao Tzu, Shi.”

“How do you know so much about metals? For a Priest that is, no offense meant.”

“In my youth, I studied many things and dabbled in some others arts. I am particularly fond of culinary and metals finding a resemblance in them. In culinary, to make a dish more tasty or exquisite, u add materials and other goods. In metals, I believe the same thing can be done. If I add more substances to a weak metal, it will become stronger, and in the case of a strong metal, if I take away some substances it will become weaker.”

They discussed the similarities between culinary and chemistry for the rest of the day and many would remember what came as a result of their conversation… For the Merchant, a new found respect for the Clergy. For the Priest, a new found respect in the Common Man.

Orders tomorrow and after 3 stories xen, hopefully u can spare me the orders takes 5 minute lecture ;)
