Chronicles of Anyang: Book 1: Year 16
Court Procedings of Li Po

Court begins so all approach
To speak your mind without reproach
The king awaits….Who is last shall be first;
Your words will quench the Sage King’s thirst.
Councilor Chu: Who approaches in such haste, as if there is no time to waste? My Lord it is the Queen!
The Yellow Emperor: My Queen, what ails that brings your plea to court, so publicly? Cannot it wait til after court, for many of those gathered round, I’m the king their a last resort?
Councilor Chu: My Queen! Your dress is soiled. Have your ladies not done their toil? Ah perhaps that maid dragged in tow is the one now made low by carelessness and a mind too slow.
Queen Song Yi: My King and Liege and those gathered round. Eye my dress and note it well. Candle wax and oily soot have been combined with a careless foot and they now adorn my royal silks. The ivory light of Cuiv’s star bright, stained pitch black all down the bodice….
The Yellow Emperor: Justice now I shall dispense in hopes to cleanse this grave offense.
Queen Song Yi: NO! My Lord you speak much too quick, here from my hand take this stick. My maid Yin Ku, hold forth your hand. My Lord and King now listen close. A happy accident at this morning’s rising has produced what’s most surprising: As Yin Ku cleaned the oily spill from puddles on my window sill, I dipped a pinky in one spot, it was still warm, but not too hot. As I wiped it on my spoiled dress, I bent the motion just so slightly and pushed a little ever so lightly. And there upon my ivory gown was a shape, I read it easily without delay. Read it now my Lord, tell me what this doth say.
The Yellow Emperor: My dear, my love, I am all a quiver, the word I see, it is for “river”.
Queen Song Yi: Yes my Lord. And see I’ve taken leave and practiced more upon my sleeve. All we write now in clay, everything we want to say, can be stated with great ease on silky cloth the king to please.
The Yellow Emperor: My queen, again my heart is taken; my very soul is now shaken by your quick thinking thoughts that waken. But your wisdom, I see rests, on other’s failing, a clumsy maid with legs a flailing. Yin Ku now, come before; your king your honor shall restore. You name we shall forever link to this black salvation now called “ink”.

And so real writing came to Anyang. Quickly, smooth silk replaced the bulky tablets and the wise women of the city transformed sooty oil and candle wax into ink and pointy sticks into brushes and pens. For two years artisans worked to make the perfect silk for writing and as they worked they experimented and learned and wrote their notes in great books and the Queen Song Yi found a room in the palace and all the books were collected there and whenever someone needed to, the could visit the room and read the books and learn from those who know more.

Chronicles of Anyang: Correspondence of the King

From the Yellow Emperor, Sage King Li Po to Xia Xia:

To Xia Xia Kings we entreat
Accept the gifts laid at your feet
And our embassy, we beseech,
So no soldiers fill the breech;
We’d rather send these wise ones three
And traders’ goods that are for thee
On open roads where poets sang
Twixt your cities and Anyang.
Now as these words to you are spoken
And lest you think our words misspoken
All these words now are written,
By the writing bug we’ve been bitten.
With impatience we await
Some reply, some word of State
That each other we may nourish.
And now my seal. It has some flourish

To: The Sage King, Li Po of Anyang
From: King Xin Pulian of Xia Xia

Long have I contemplated
Those words you have wrote
That we make no breach of confidence,
Nor that we tote,
Weapons at each other, brandishing fiercely
To see the blood run down our faces so bittersweetly.
Long did I try
To compose a reply
Alas, my poetic knowledge is lacking.
All the same, I offer back to thee
The offer of friendship, branch of the olive tree.
I accept your wise ones three,
And return to you a golden key
This golden key will win you entrance at my gates
Should you choose to visit me with your mates.
Note of course that we're not giving you an actual key,
The pendant enclosed is not really what is for thee
What I actually offer to the sage king
Is an offer to come a visiting.

Proclamation of the Sage King and Queen of Anyang

Our city, our country, our prosperity is a three legged stool of strength and stability. The first leg is knowledge and the sharing of that knowledge amongst all the people of Anyang. It is knowledge of the wild world, the animals, the plants and rocks. It is knowledge of the skies and seasons and of the sea and the creatures that live therein. It is knowledge of our neighbors. The sharing of our collective wisdom is a great strength.

The second is our army. Their skill and training protects us all: you the people, your wisdom and your hope for tomorrow. They drill and practice and play at war to be ready when real war comes. Our generals think and plan and prepare for war even as they work for peace.

The third is our trade; our contacts throughout the known world that share our prosperity and bring us knowledge and new ideas and better ways of doing old chores.

Upon these foundations is Anyang built. Our culture sits high on this mighty tripod. Music, dance, poetry and laughter adorn our very being and spill joyously to those around. And to those who find themselves just there, beyond the edge of our domain, reap what we have sown; take from our fruits and benefit from what we know. Share in our prosperity and joy and live in peace as our friends.

Historians Note: This early declaration, dated to the yearly years of Li Po's long reign was only for the people of Anyang, but soon copies were made by local folks and it bagan to make appearances in neighboring lands, even those where folks had no writing and could not read. For many it became an impetus to learn the strange ways of the Anyang schools and the the first thing they ever read. The wisest of those who lived in that corner of the world visited Anyang and were in awe of the Queen's growing libray of books and the intelligence and curiosity of the people. In spring they especially enjoyed the shellfish harvested from the brackish water of the coast.

Correspondence of the King
To Dariae, Caexhin and Luxor:

The Golden Vale is open wide
Our couriers now in there ride
With messages discrete and true:
Anyang wants to trade with you.
Your kingdoms’ stories we want told
Scribbled down in text so bold;
Our queen requests a song or two,
She loves to hear whatever’s new.
In return our peddlers wait to flock
And bring you goods and healthy stock.
The kinds of things our people seek
Is on a list so take a peek;
We await all your replies,
In scented gardens under clear blue skies.

Lashantar II of Damara, we wish to trade with you.

Greetings Divine Highqueen Memuaris Dores of Arma

Divine Highqueen Memuaris Dores of Arma stood in the doorway looking at the preperations that where made by her staff and all the people of Arma. The preperations of the biggest feast that ever was held are almost done, soon the whole city of Mathél will be crowded with people. This feast is held because of the many peacefull years that Arma has had.

The Divine Highqueen walked to the temple of Mathél and began her sacrifices of gold and inscense.

Thank you Lord Iggy....and more then 10 NES's played along...cut up the cake....

On the Beginning of the Siege of Yarin

Greatlord Rasgar was displeased. Somehow, this little village had managed to survive, even managing to kill off Warlord Grodas and a considerable amount of his army.

Not that Rasgar had ever had much respect for Grodas. While the man had a good warriors's mind, he was stupid for most everything else. He had attacked a village that outnumbered him military by a significant margin. Even with great Tallasian weaponry, he could not expect to win.

But the man hadn't died totally uselessly. He had discovered a skilled fighting people. They would do well in Tallas. And they would be brought in.

Naturally, anyone who is a decent fighter will resist capture. But more had to be learned of these people. Would they accept defeat if their leader is defeated in single combat? Would they all fight to the death?

Either way, conflict was inevitable.

The massive armies of Tallas began to surround the city. They encroached on it. All of its surroundings were occupied by the hordes.

"Yarin!" roard Rasgar, "Surrender to the might of Tallas, and your people will be spared! Fight, and be destroyed!"

No response came.

Constant raids by Berserkers prevented the Yarin from building defenses. Rasgar disliked these cowardly tactics, but wished for an answer from the Yarin.

The Yarin's time was running out. Would they send out an ambassador? Or would they, like all other Sarcasi tribes, be defeated by the mighty armies of Tallas?

Rasgar gazed up to the city.
