STR-05: Shaka the Virgin Conqueror

Stuge has been MIA for a couple of days. Real life really is the curse of civilisation.

Got it.

No major rants (maybe I should take lessons).

Is it worth considering police state instead of HR?

Should have ivory on line soon. Maybe build some elephants (that will annoy Betty's horse archers).

I presume we'll raze last chinese city.

The wonders were my doing :smoke: . I thought the AIs would build them and the world bank would pay us some compensation.

Real life, including essays, really does suck.

If there's a significant amount of WW, a switch to police state might be good. The 25% bonus to military builds would probably speed the inevitable up a little.

Bit of an uneventful turnset.

Built three forges in our established cities (Washington, NY, Ulundi). Unit production mainly focussed on cats, we seem to have plenty of maces and impis.

No sign of the English light cavalry.

Xian turned out tougher than expected. A CG3 longbow appeared almost out of nowhere (before I'd done any attacking) abd even after battering defences I still managed to lose two maces and two swords, but the job got done and by 1235 China was no more.

Got the ivory hooked up, we probably need HBR if we want elephants. Impis have been systematically pillaging the terrain formerly known as China to support our economy. Reconnected the copper, Tok turned up and landed a sword and an elephant nearby but I sacrificed a cat then polished them off.

With all the fighting going on we got another GG. Looking through the cities Washington was the most productive so we got an MI established there.

Warfare really is 90% logistics: I spent most of my time trying to get units heading towards England in a couple of proper stacks, a task that remains incomplete.

Engineering is getting close to complete. I sacked our scientists because they were more use working tiles and the game should be virtually won before they would have produced another GS.

Not a very exciting set but hopefully has helped somewhat.

The world will be ours soon.

Roster:
1) Strauss --> on deck
2) GreyFox
3) stuge --> skipped
4) pigswill --> just played
5) ungy --> UP

Sorry guys I still can't get warlords to run Not sure why but I'll be on another comp soon enough. So I'll have to take another skip-sorry not to have done much this game but seems like you guys have things well under control.

No problem ungy. Guess that makes me UP. Don't have any plans for tonight so I'll get to this when football's over.

Engineering came in and I started on Feudalism for lack of anything better at this stage.

Nothing much to rant about, simply reassign archers in our eastern cities so that those nearer to happy cap has more MPs. Switched a city that is building cat for 33 turns to a granary instead (remember to whip it).

Strauss set me up nicely, and England soon became history:

Meanwhile, we learn Feudalism, and we revolted.

str05-AD1382-revolt.jpg

Not going to help much, but better than nothing.

I decided to return the favor, and let pigswill enjoy a bit of plundering thrill:

If you want, I think it is possible to take Osaka before hitting enter, but I would wait if it was me. Let's hope Toku do not have a vast empire -- if so, this is probably my last turnset ;)

(There should be two pictures of Japanese cities being put to the sword here but I apparently forgot to take them. Osaka and some fishing village.)

Our stacks are currently healing. Satsuma will fall soon. A Japanese SoD from the north prevented me from taking it. Throwing away some catapults took care of it. The lone sword up there is all that's left of it.

I have lost all interest in MM at this stage, although it hardly matters. Just keep producing random units and this game will be over in max two rounds.

Got it. Started playing. Two cities in two turns. 3 cities left.

Two more cities in the next three turns.

Once city to go:

Afterthought:

A pleasant way of losing my Always War virginity. Once we finished off America and Mali it didn't seem like much of a contest anymore, and we managed to win before Gunpowder. I've read stories of brutal AW Prince games (solo and SG's), so why was it so easy now? I guess starting with our northern and eastern borders clear of enemies made a big difference in our offensive possibilities. But a thumbs up for the team as well, great game guys.

I think the decisive point was capturing Washington. Not only did we keep the momentum going but the Great Wall meant we could raze freely without worrying about fogbusting or barbarians pillaging our territory.

I've never been a fan of swords before but this game has taught me that they have an important niche between axe rush and cats.

A well-played and friendly game.

I think it might be different if "Tech Tading" was turned on ... but that is as good as pumping the difficulty to Monarch or Emperor since the human has no one to trade.

Agreed with the previous posters on the decisive move on America early game. One more thing that contributed to our success was that Japan, the furthest Civ, was in a crappy land. So even though he goes unmolested throughout most of the game, Toku never get too strong to offer any real fight.

Thanks to Strauss for a good game.

Well done all--sorry I couldn't do much near the end.

I didn't realize tech trading was off? To be honest the game seemed a little easy and that might have been part of it.

I'd say we had a few things going for us:

1) access to early copper and then iron. Not too much fun w/o copper.

2) starting at more or less the end of the landmass. Had we been in the center it would have been more difficult. We got to concentrate our forces on a single front and some of the AI were too far away to really do anything.
