Succession Game for Newbies

I say build a few Musketeers and take them to the war-zone, maybe a GA can get us 4-turn research to get us toward Astronomy and Navigation faster, if we want to win, we need ships. We have a long way to go to cover 66% of the land. Also, we need to build some strategic culture buildings, expand the first 10 culture points to fill gaps, then sell the culture building. Wasteful, yes, but we're going to have to make 50-60 more towns to fill this continent up if we don't. We should have built the TOA, those free temples could've filled in lots of gaps.

we Still can :D no one has built them yet but will soon :(

I still haven't had a chance to play yet...hopefully a little later.

Yes, I'm 99% sure you can kick off a GA by capturing a wonder. As soon as you own a "new" wonder (to your civ) then it checks to see if the wonder fits the civ's traits, and if so, voila!, a GA. I may still build a Musketeer to do the job though. I agree that now is the right time for the GA.

Also, I still think that I'm glad we didn't build the ToA. It would have been nice, easy to build, etc. BUT it forces us to actively-practice cash-rushing temples, which is good for us. Also, as a Republic that will soon suspend research, we should have PLENTY of cash to finish the job of cash-rushing before we would capture enough territory anyway to get to 66%.

Well, RL caught up with me so I couldn't play tonight. :( I need to request a skip for this round or else swap with someone. I can't play until Thursday at the earliest.

So, I guess that means Tad is up. Good luck! :)

lurker's comment:

I don't think it's quite that simple, though I forget the actual way it works.

This link takes you to a thread where it is discussed.

HyCrest is out of town at camp and will not be returning until Sunday 7/1.

I think ya'll will get in two turnsets before Sunday so you will need to skip him.

lurker's comment: My understanding of wonders is that you need to match each of your traits, which may be a single wonder that covers both or two wonders where each matches a different one of your two traits.

Now, If you've built a wonder that matches one trait, then capture a wonder that matches the other trait, it will not start a golden age, BUT...

If you then build any other wonder at all...even if it matches neither of your civ's traits...the game will check for a match and will include looking at the captured wonder at that point. Then your Golden Age can begin.

That rings a bell with me, and IIRC a Small Wonder does the trick too.

lurker's comment:
Wow, it's been a long time since I have posted in the SG forum!

I was just lurking a bit and saw the comments about Golden Ages. gmaharriet is entirely correct with her post. Either build a wonder(s) with your traits, or capture a wonder(s) with the traits and then build any wonder, and you'll start a GA. Small wonders do not start Golden Ages.

I'll continue to lurk for fun. :)

Unleashing The Warmonger in me :D

P.S. Start War with English, & Capture all the cities you can so we dont have to rebuild them by scratch Warning: They have iron and might get Feud soon = MDI :Warning

Yep, I stand corrected. :) Thanks for weighing in on that, all you lurkers.

Good job, Tad, on keeping the war going. We just need to keep on filling in specialist farms all throughout the old Chinese, Byz, and Portuguese areas.

Also, we need to start building a navy. I haven't looked at the save in a while, so I don't know where we are at research-wise, but we need to either be building caravels or else build some galleys and unpgrade them when we get Astronomy. The main thing holding us back is not having transports to get our armies to the other landmasses. We should have some settlers with the troops too, but more on that later.

Will I be swapping with someone or will we go Overseer, Kumwquat, and then myself now that Hycrest needs to be skipped? I can't play until Thursday, though. :(

How about we do this...I play next, making Kumquat after that, Othniel can then take up his normal spot in the rotation Thursday or Friday, giving us as close to our normal rotation as possible?

1. TheOverseer714-up
2. Kumquat-warming up
3. Othniel-skipped round-on deck for next round
4. Tad Empire-just played
5. HyCrest-skipped round

Metalgurdy  Tad when you capture an enemy city leave a few units in it until the resistance is quelled then turn every into specialists and starve them down to pop 1 ^_^

=P I rushed like 3 settlers  we made the money back in 1 turn :) it was in enemy cities like constantinople :) better way to get rid of citizens I dont like waiting till they have pop 3 <.>_<.>

Hi guys, finished my turns. Portugal was stubborn, but is gone, England has lost a few cities, we are in the golden age, 4 turn science and we are raking in nearly 200 gold per turn. Troops are in position to finish London, and Sun Tzu's will fiish during Kumquat's turn.:D I have lots of settlers in production, fast and slow. I have spotted sea squares to our east, but the galley sank, have more on the way. Astronomy is next, but I think we will want Navigation for Magellan's along with Magnetism. I wouldn't mind going all the way to Steam Power before stopping science, because of the free movement Railroads give us. :scan: I have the save, my log and screenshots here. Possible city sites are colored dots, as usual. I also found some more Normandy France town names to go along with ones I remember from Saving Private Ryan and several other movies/games/miniseries about D-Day. Authentic Normandy, French town names: Alençon; Arromanches; Avranches; Bayeux; Coutances; Dieppe; Doudeville; Évreux; Falaise; Honfleur; Houlgate; Lisieux; Mortain; Saint-Lô; Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte; Sainte-Mère-Église; and Villers-Bocage. Good luck Kumquat! Use 'em if you want, though I do find some of you guy's creative names amusing.

1. TheOverseer714-just played
2. Kumquat-up
3. Othniel-on deck
4. Tad Empire-warming up
5. HyCrest-may need skipped again

Kumquat I think you should raze canterbury cause its near a volcano & you know how those love to destroy cities, plant a new 1, 1 square down on the river :)- im gana make like 2 more cities near tadpole city & that will be the homeland of Tad :D (other than Neo Tad & Tad's Food market) :)

I hope we get a MGL in the war with english we had 5 wars, & 5 civs dead & no mgl, not that we
:mischief: NEED:mischief: 1 but it would be nice :)

Also, Good thing I started Sun Tzu's on my last turn set :D I didnt know if I should of start it or not
