Sullla's AI Survivor Season Seven - Game 6 Thread

Who'dya pick, My?

Go Darius!

I need to make some pics just to feel like I am taking part here. Cooking to do too. Rushed job on mine then.

Domination T300
11 wars.
FTD WIllem
1st JC Roman
2nd Memed

See what happens. Praets win the day?

On par? Darius will burn through the tech tree if left alone. He has to get dogpiled which isn't that unlikely but still he's a solid pick.
I just don't see him being left alone. Best case scenario: he steamrolls Brennus in an early war and intimidates the rest such that they spend the game bickering while he turtles to space T250-275. If he delays that conquest at all or gets into more conflicts, I see him him teching on par with Willem for as long as both are in the game. Definitely a solid pick, but rather because he has a more protected position than Willem and is likely to be shielded by an aggressive minority religious leader in Brennus.

Normally without the map in a group like this, Darius would be a very popular FTD pick and Willem would be most likely to win the game. It is just that kind of map where Churchill won last season being a peaceweight outcast.

Mehmed first, JC FTD, Brennus 2nd
Not playing for points but underdog surprises ;)

For points i prolly would have chosen Darius too.
Yep, Mehmed def would be my underdog pick...wanted to pick him

I think one thing to consider is that the sample size from previous seasons is still quite small even when you add the alternate histories to the mix. I think there are some leaders who are rightly judged to be good or bad but then there are a whole bunch of average but competent leaders including some who are probably overrated and others underrated. Quite a lot of the leaders are probably in very 'wrong' positions on the AI power chart. Then the combination of leaders and the map also matters a lot. A single high PW leader in a field of low PW leaders is probably going to fare very differently to a high PW leader in a field that only contains high PW leaders.
This definitely resonates from among your insights. The average competence probably contributes a lot to upsets, which prioritizes starts, maps, and diplomacy, as you point out. I definitely feel a bit of disappointment when a leader seems to get stuck with bad starts or bad diplomatic composition, but rolling good starts is also part of what can set the AI up for breakout performances.

On a side note, while we await finalization of results, I believe that Hannibal and Alexander's wins provisionally knock Willem and Zara out of Pool 2 in the live rankings. Note, Willem still has a chance to regain his rank, but he has to make it to the Wildcard Game to do so. Good performances by Darius and Mehmed could position them to be seeded next season...

I kind of like Mehmed settling away from the crowd. Reduces the chance he will drop into a super early war.
Settling a spot with no 3 food-hammer tile and building settler there is really annoying though. :|

Phew, Brennus and Saladin got the religions :)

Julius with the 2nd gold and Mehmed with the bleh city spot >_<

I have to intervene Plainscow..you didn't call him Tocowgawa.
I haven't researched "puns" tech yet for this game.
that is very shpicy!
They're my favorite-tasting peppers! I actually grow ghosts and carolina reapers to slice on pizzas, so they aren't my hottest, but the hottest I can eat in any decent quantity comfortably.
