Short of turning off sound, is there a way to silence the spell noises (particularly the specter summoning) for players not casting the spell? My buddy online was getting a tad tired of it after a hundred turns or so of me conquering on another continent. All he hears is the constant summoning noise. Especially bad when I've got a whole stack of mages and mobius's selected and they all summon at the same time.
He's just glad he wasn't trying to get by with head phones. :twitch:

Side note: loved those strength 11 specters. Doubt it was the most efficient thing I could be doing, but my was it ever fun :D

a bit off topic to your post, but the voiceset for Acheron the dragon is incredibly loud, probably 2x as loud as any other unit in the game, and is painful to hear when you attack him with his screams.

Agreed, Paco. And it could be my imagination, but it seems like his roar gets louder the more powerful be becomes. Whenever I capture him and level him up, I have to turn off the sound when it's time to have him fight.

It's the same for Eurabatres, too. I was playing a game with him last night, and while he was assaulting Dis, he got attacked by something like 50 manes, and boy did that roar get annoying after the first ten times or so.

Pit beasts.

some others...

The volume only kicks in if it is more then 1 (or 2?). While I appreciate the increased volume warning the quantity... it's really loud.

Sorry about the pain but that is hilarious.

It was pretty funny, not to mention him going from around 78xp to nearly 140 after that one round. Took forever, though, since I didn't have quick battles on for defense, since it's too easy to miss where I got attacked.

You can see where it happened by opening the event log and clicking on the text in question - the screen will center on the event.

So it seems to be general agreement that it's an annoyance, also adding that some units are just to dang loud when attacking/existing. So....anyway to fix it that anyone knows of?

Turn the sound off. I rarely have the sound on when I play computer games anyway, so I typically am not bothered by it.

Actually, now that I think of it I believe you can adjust the volume of music, popups, and effects seperately. You could just turn the effect volume down really low if you wish.

All spells make noise (I think, maybe just most) and the noise is, I think, global (at least continental). Many (such as Chaos 3) are noticably louder when cast by 3 (2?) or more units at once.

I don't remember which makes a 'whoosh' sound.

Knowing the different spell echos can really help preparation for an enemy (especially in MP). For instance, if I hear a feed... it's war time before they get even more buff. If I hear a maelstrom, I'm building assassins. If I hear skels being summoned, I'm looking for Life mana. If I hear spectres being summoned, I'm looking for spirit mana.

I think it is a really cool feature of the game and gives a certain interconnectedness to magic.

Sorry to quote myself, cross-thread applicable post :/

ps. I have not managed, through independant volume control, to figure out how to just reduce the sound of multiple tier 3 summons at-the-same-time (that's when volume gets really out of control, for a couple mana types).

Yeah, I basically have to turn off my sound when using Pit Beasts, fighting Acheron, using the Mazatl's dragon from FF, or using a few other summons. Turning down the effects volume isn't a solution, since it's only these few sound effects that are a problem. In general, I dig the sound and music in FfH, and I hate the idea of turning it off because of a few noisy units, but sometimes there's really no other choice.

Couldn't you just rename the sound file for whichever noise bugs you (Dragon roar, for instance) and create a blank one in its place to just remove certain sounds?

Work around maybe be okay for idnivduals, but we definitly want to smooth out the edges as much as possible for the mod as a whole too. I adjusted a bunch of these sounds down (amazing how handy the wonder spell is at finding annoying noises). So it should be a little better.

The dragons are a bit tougher. Its not as easy as adjusting a parameter because the sounds are built into the animations. But I will see what I can do.

should be the same as any sound. the sounds are triggered by the animation but still called from xml as far as I know. In particular it's:
AS3D_UN_DRAGON_HURT
AS3D_UN_DRAGON_ROAR
I believe.

Yeah, its not that the soudns are bad. Only that they are endlessly looping, which I believe is set in the animation.

ah I see now. Well doesn't it suffice to simply reduce the volume for the looping sound or don't you want it to loop during idle at all? It's an easy fix if you need that I can upload an idleanimtion without looping sound(I'd miss it though)

Oh and it's AS3D_UN_DRAGON_BREATH_IN for idle

Is their a summon that sees something about "Beigning in your mind"? I've been hearing this in my game.
