SW9 - Malicious Mali

I totally missed your post stating you had played! Don't know how I missed that. My mistake.
It has been so long since I played this Id forgotten the variant rules. After checking the opening post I noticed our victory goal is either UN or culturally. By the looks of it a culture victory isnt possible so UN it is.
Heres how our relations look both at the beginning of my turn set, and at the end:
Beginning/End
Elizabeth: +4/+6
Julius Caesar: -2/+0

Saladin: -5/-6
Mumu was a feeble lad, though that didnt change his desire for power. Rather than gain power through conquest or might at arms, he strove to earn it through his charisma. Realizing at the beginning of his reign that international relations were lacking he struck out in several trade agreements.
Elizabeth: We get 4 gpt; we give Fish
Julius Caesar: We get 5 gpt; we give Ivory
Asoka: We get 4 gpt; we give Ivory
Saladin: We get Incense; we give Fur
Saladin: We get Spices; we give Fish
Fredrick: We get Wine; we give Fur
Mumu noted that in our Malinese maps of the world there was a small landmass to our east that hadnt yet been claimed. Seeing an opportunity settlers and ships were set to claim this land. Upon arriving on this landmass he found not only was it still unclaimed, but several resources were available; Iron, Marble, Horses, Fish, and another (spices maybe?). As one city went up another group moved to build another great city.
During his reign a man of great intelligence was born; one Sir Francis Bacon. He moved to Gao where he set up an academy of greater study.
Realizing more trade possibilities were at hand:
Asoka: We get Drama, Philosophy, and World Map; we give Guilds
OOC: After we learned Guilds I cancelled the Banking research. Instead I went Education with plans for getting Liberalism first. Toward the end of my turnset I was able to trade one of the AIs for Banking. Cant remember which AI.
Here is an image of the landmass and my own proposed city sites. N-NE of the horses is another fish that isnt shown. The yellow circle would pick up the fish, marble, and whatever the other one is. Im not too sure on the blue but it would pick up the rest of the landmass.

Forgot to mention, I got Elizabeth to convert to Judaism for the measly price of Drama. Asoka is willing to convert as well but he wants Education. I figure if we convert a few more of his cities he might be willing to do it for a cheaper price. I also suggest converting a few more of Elizabeth's cities to make her stay with Judaism.

Life continued in a peaceful way throughout the Malinese empire. Kumbywhompanidiot was happy how his country was developing. The Arabs and Aztecs were at war but generally relations around the world were good. The Malinese had an especially good relationship with their neighbors the Greeks and were developing better relations with the English, Indians and Germans. Kumbyah, as he was none by his friends, was active on the diplomatic front. Asoka paid a visit in 1545. It was a historic event as Kumbyah was able to convince Asoka that Judaisim was the one true religion. Kumbyah was able to offer a new medium to Asoka that would allow him to spread the word of the faith to the Indian people. The printing press was given in exchange for banking, maps of the world, 10g and the immediate conversion to Judaism by the Indian people. Kumbyah promised to send so of his missionaries to convert some of the great cities of India. By the end of his tenure Judaism had spread to Bangalore, Dehli and even to Britain's Hastings.
Many other great events occurred during Kumbyah's tutelage. Aretas III, the great merchantman, from Timbuktu established a business in London called Tesco Tea Leave. The Londoners embraced it with veracity. The windfall brought 1300g back to Timbuktu making the country's trade the strongest in the world. The had the additional benefit of allowing the great scientists at the greatest Library in the world make great discoveries Scientific Method, economics and their current study of physics. The Malinese continued their great scientific acheivements.
Scientific method brought a new energy source that was yet to be completely understood. Oil. It seemed the British were somehow aware of this information since they tried to beat the Malinese to a 2nd source of oil on Silk Island. The great ship captain Igor Kutzovlayah used his great knowledge of the currents to beat them to that source and build the new oil city Tadmekka. Tadmekka was one of two great new cities that was established on Silk Island with the second securing a 3rd source of silks. The workforce was in the process of developing the magnificient luxury. Before the Malinese were able to use this luxury Kumbahya was forced to trade it to his friend Alex. This was a difficult decision for Kumbyah since he felt the Malinese people deserved everything the world had to offer but sacrifices for the greater good was necessary. Alex felt that he needed something in return for the corn that was be given to the Malinese for free. The corn was a critical staple in Kumbi Saleh and without it they would starve. Since the food was so much more important than the additional luxury of silk Kumbyah gave Alex the Malinese' only source of silk in exchange for the corn. It would be soon enough that the Malinese people would experience the luxury of silk.
The only setback over the reign of Kumbyah was Saladin's request to stop shipping iron to the Aztecs. Considering the Malinese were such a peaceful people it was with a heavy heart Kumbyah agreed. It was done in hopes the peace process by these two hawkish nations would end. It did not. Relations between all the nations involved, the Malinese, Arabs and Aztecs, continued to be chilly on all sides. This is the story of Kumbywhompanidiot.

The reign of IgorII, the Insane, began in a normal way, with little to foreshadow the coming chaos. Igor sat on his throne and thought "I'm the most powerful peep in the world and I've got eight whompin' cities (or nine, Igor was never very educated; he tended to behead the insolent royal tutors). He decided he needed more powerful boats to impress
Lizzie (that runway show had his hormones all in a rage). Lizzie had something never before seen in the known world, cleavage.
A venerable entertainer bribed the chamberlin for admittance to the royal quarters. He feated the ruler with tales of a magic. Unfortunately, Igor had been into the cermonial wine again and could remember the exact details of what direcion he gave the merchant. Shortly thereafter the chamberlin reported that some new technology had been discovered.
Alex, our "friend" came calling with some tale about a "magic firestick' that could make a big sound and put big holes in the chests of our opponents. Against the advice of the sages, Igor gifted him our philosophy and our music in return for the secret of magic firesticks.
In time, just beating the deadline in the who wants to live until 50 competition, a scientist put forth an idea that parts of similar machines could be interchangeable and thus one could be used to repair another. this lead to a great increase in productivity throughout the lands.
meanwhile the thoughts of lizzie and her cleavage preyed upon igor II.
Another scientist, who wished to live to old age started working on some periodic chart (the scrolls are faulty, but it appears his name was tubs) thingy. igor was not impressed with this until he learned that his floatie things could now throw iron balls in the manner of magic firesticks.
Alas the twilight of IgorII's reign was filled with insanity. The sight of Lizzie and her cleavage pushed him over the edge and he began to make foolish decisions.
To wit:
Hot Lizzie asks for Liberalism. That corset thingy pushed Igor over the edge and he gifts it to her in anticipation of an "alliance" While thus distracted, he trades Alex paper so he stops trading with Asoka. Bipolar disease sets in and igor then trades Asoka Scientific Method to declare on Saladin. Lizzie founds S in her lands which cause a trade to Lizzie for something to convert to Judaism. The mess continures with a trade of chem, education, printing press to Freddie in return for stop trading with julius, war with Sal, WM, 20g. final pyschosis sets in with a trade asoka econ to adopt free speech and caste system. In his small little brain, Igor thinks, "they love me now".
With a final gaze at Lizzie's portrait and cleavage, Igor II sets down his last will and testemant. "let us not enter into entangling alliances. Let us forgoe the lure of the cleavage. Lizzie is a witch who will never give it up." with those profundities, IgorII passed into history.
