SysNES 1: A Murky Pool of Light

Ik,

All this OOC lying is so disgusting. You and Seon both. Why bother tricking me; why not just declare war properly?

And I remember telling you basically "give me 12e or else." I also remember telling you that I cannot give you any gurentee that I won't attack you, and you should just trust me not to do it. At that point and time, that "trust me" didn't mean anything because I didn't trust you either.

That being said, you should really start considering a peace treaty. Against me, you can probably win, but not against two of us.

You agree to get off my planet and I vow never to colonize or invade a planet/moon with 'Al influence ever again. Please note that this time, I actually said that I won't invade you instead of beating around the bush like the last time. And I tend to be quite honourable on things I actually say I won't do.

Yes. Both of my parents are lawyers. Now does this peace treaty be acceptable?

OOC: Could you guys please either be OOC or IC but not both at the same time? :p

what was IC? - nothing.

Treaty of Taik

First contact was made by the Republic of Lantian with the Republic of Ik. Compared to the other established states in the Errai system, the Republic of Ik was undoubtedly the most sane and open to diplomatic communication. As such, the Republic of Lantian and the Republic of Ik came to an agreement over technological exchange.

1. Expressing the sincere desire of the Republic of Ik and the Republic of Lantian to open diplomatic channels to further communication,

2. Stating the peaceful intentions of the Republic of Ik and the Republic of Lantian towards each other,

3. Recognizing the sovereignty of each respective state,

4. Acknowledging the desirability of the establishment of mutually beneficial relations,

5. The Republic of Ik promises to give the Republic of Lantian the technologies Construction II and Construction III,

6. In exchange for the technologies Materials II, Materials III and Social II from the Republic of Lantian,

7. And concluding in the most amicable of relations.

Let me clarify;

I think if its purely IC diplomacy and you are lying in that, thats fine. But what is the point of telling me something OOC then doing the opposite? Don't answer that; it was a rhetorical question. It doesn't matter anyway.

Regardless, there will be no IC diplomacy between the 'Als and the Ik or Akresians. From an IC perspective, we realize that we will lose this war. At the same time the Akresians only understand force and only respect force. Their treachery has already cost us 85e in planetary development (offworld alpha, new beta, farm, and a mine). The treachery of the Ik has greatly contributed to our fleet's destruction. Furthermore they have shown themselves loyal allies of the Ik after promising assistance to us; not only that but they have fired upon our people. There is no reason, considering our xenophobia, that we would reach out to, or believe anyone, not of the collective.

I think it's amusing as well. At least for me.

I can write a similiar statement in IC though if you wish, Immaculate. No change in general content gurenteed.

Edit: Damn. Epic crosspost

I am having trouble finding the rules for it, but how much does it cost to repair a ship?

The latest jump of our space probe was not quite as anticipated as its previous jumps. We had found no civilized life. No traces of any human civilization, Geashial or otherwise were found in our previous encounters. When the probe entered this system of Errai, that all changed.

My blessed and wise elders, we have once more made first contact. What happens now is at your discretion.

-Jonathan Takada, Testimony to the Learned Council on the Errai System

------

“When have we ever cared what type of foods a people ate?”

He was not happy. I completely understood. There was an unprecedented amount of disagreement over the appropriate course of action to take in the Errai system. We had made contact with not one, but three separate peoples, each worse than the next.

The first were the Ik, a people of great cunning and masters of deceit. From garbled communications, it seems that the Ik held the balance of power in the region and were unassailable. The second were the ‘AI, a people that could not be said to be a people. Their being mindless zombies commanded by a central computer network was the eventual conclusion. And lastly were the Akresians! Horrible cannibals who would feast upon their fellow human beings!

Were we alone amongst the unenlightened?

“Have many of you forgotten that we were once mocked and criticized for the foods we ate?”

A more senior member came to the defense; he was correct. Whales, dogs, rabbits, seahorses, and many other animals were the names of species of animals our glorious ancestors feasted upon. The names of our critics were long gone, wiped out in the subsequent epochs. It was they who built castles in the sky, it was they who lived in the mountains of steel, ignoring the call of Enlightenment. The Amicans, the Engrish, the Frach, and so many others were long gone. We alone stand.

I stood up. Buttoning my pre-Tumult era suit, I stood erect and marched over to the podium. I gestured at the figure.

“This slug is a gastropod. It is a food considered to be a delicacy of the highest order, and a symbol of class amongst many of our ancestors. For whatever their demerits, this Republic of the Ik are the most rational and civilized of the other states. Would you rather your children be raised by them, the mindless ‘AI or the cannibals that are the Akresians? The answer is simple. For as the palm of one’s hand cannot cover the whole sky; we cannot ignore the perils of these new polities because of a trivial concern. I propose that this Learned Council move immediately to establish diplomatic relations with the Ik.”

The deafening noise of the murmurs came to dominate the proceedings. But it was a done deal. The ice had been broken.

I smiled.

Government Reconstitution!

In the latest meeting of the Learned Council, a strong consensus has been reached that the Learned Council can no longer function as an effective government for our rapidly reindustrializing and developing state. As such, a series of proposals have been drafted and approved for review. Below is a summary of the proposed changes.

1. The Learned Council will surrender its legislative and executive powers. It will no longer play an active role in the administration of the state. Instead, it will serve as the highest electoral body in the Republic in certifying election results. It will approve or deny the rights of candidates to run for office as well as political and judicial appointees. In addition, it will also be given a veto power over the actions of both the executive and legislature that can only be overturned by three-fourths of the legislature alone, or two-thirds of the legislature with the backing of the executive. The Learned Council shall be the final arbitrator and guide of the Republic of Lantian. The Executive Chairman shall head the Learned Council.

2. The Legislative Branch shall be established with a bicameral legislature. The Lower body, the Majestic House of Delegates, will be elected based on population and geographic districts. The Upper Body, the Resplendent Senate, will be elected through at-large elections. The legislature will be in charge of the budgeting process, legislating laws and representing the People of Lantian. Only the Resplendent Senate shall have treaty-making powers and the power to declare war. It is only in the Majestic House of Delegates that budgeting procedures may originate. The legislative shall be elected via a ranked single winner method.

3. The Executive Branch shall be headed by the High Chancellor. The High Chancellor shall serve as the as both the head of state and head of government, second to none but the Executive Chairman when it involves matters of Our Glorious Lineage. In addition to enforcing the laws of the legislature, the High Chancellor shall also have the power to veto the law unless the legislature, by a three-fifths majority, disagrees. The High Chancellor shall also serve as the supreme commander of the armed forces and direct and coordinate US foreign policy. As Chief Executive, the high Chancellor shall also have at his disposal a series of cabinets to aid him in carrying out the tasks given to him.

4. The Judiciary shall be composed of the High Supreme Court and courts underneath it. It shall be the final authority of the interpretation of the laws unless stated otherwise by the Learned Council. Its lower members shall be duly elected by their districts. The judges of the appeal courts and those of the High Supreme Court are to be appointed by the High Chancellor and approved by the Resplendent Senate.

5. The glorious traditions and cultural heritage of the Lantian people shall never be forgotten, downtrodden, or dismissed.

I'll 'clear up' the first page tomorrow, though I'm not 100% sure what you mean by that (I have been updating rules changes there).

I am having trouble finding the rules for it, but how much does it cost to repair a ship?

A shipyard will automatically repair one ship a turn at the end of the year, for no cost, as does each repair bay component in a ship, but you have to be around the same world as the repair centre.

For example, any combats the Ik Abu-Sloop gets into this turn will find it damaged, but as long as it hangs around Erraiv V (Taik) till the end of the year it will be repaired for the following year.

Just getting rid of all the other Update 0 stats that are scattered around, because they really don't serve much of a point anymore.

OOC: Erm... No. I want to keep all the stats from all the updates in the thread somewhere. Since they were images I haven't saved them so I like to keep it that way. :p

@Kal, we were not experimented on. :p

As I think more and more about my government, it seems a lot like Iran's :mischief:

Heres some various stuff Dis:

You build ships by making a design via selecting components off the components list. This gives ships a set of capabilities, and a cost in e. You have 7 possible ship design slots per society, and building a new class requires retiring an old one if you have already have 7 types. When you design a ship it is a prototype, and you must spend its e cost in s before it can be constructed. Ships that share 3/4 or more of their components list with an existing design you have do not need to be prototyped.

That 3/4 rule is dead. And the rest seems to have been done since I last looked... :/

@alex you have Homo Superior; by definition someone in your ancestry has been modified!

Well, we could at least have it below the actual update 0, in the usual form.:)

OOC: I prefer to think they began as something like a designer East Asian baby and not like those poor Vault dwellers in Fallout :p So not experimented on in the sense that the Vault dwellers were :mischief:
