It will fall. 40 million Chinese starve, and the government constantly fights peasant uprisings in the country.

Okay, if PRC develops into a democracy, peacefully, then the Taipei government will have no role, but to integrate in China, and maybe lend PRC some of its democratic experience. But if the government falls violently, then the Taipei government is very suitable to base a new leadership on.

Well, what will be the capital of such a "reunified" China after the collapse of the Communist Party?

Would there even be a "one China" after the collapse, or just two independent nations?

If the Communist party is to ever be displaced, it will be by violent revolution, not a peaceful transfer of power like in the USSR/Russia. If such a revolt begins, I can't imagine Taiwan getting involved. They might send the rebels money, but not military support. However the nation of Taiwan began, it is now an entity unto itself, with it's own interests and ambitions. It won't jepordize that by getting tangled up in a war that doesn't serve it's interests.

To answer rmsharpe's question, there will be separate nations. Probably more than two, because I can see Tibet and Xinjiang breaking away.

No, Tibet won't break away. The majority of the Tibetans are Chinese.

The majority of Kazakhs are Russian. That didn't stop Kazakhistan from breaking with Russia.

According to my numbers: 46 % Kazakhis, 35 % Russians, and 5 % Ukrainians...

The reason the US has stopped short of recognizing Tiawan as a nation is because the Reds in China (most Chinese are not the evil Red Chinese) have stated on the record that they would go as far as killing all the people on the island of Taiwan and take world condemnation rather than see it a separate nation. The evil Reds hav no regard even for their own soldiers thay have said they are willing to sacrifice to prove the point. Their nukes can easily reach Taiwan. Read the history, particularly how Eisenhower dealt with it. Bush Jr. is the 1st US President to depate the official US policy of Deliberate Ambiguity for the defense of Taiwan.... he has said the US will not sit idly by and watch the evil Reds lead the rest of teh honorable Chinese people down the road to destroy Taiwan militarily.

The comments of some about the current political state of affairs in Taiwan is basically true... but the fact remains that the "real" nation of China escaped to Taiwan, and the evil Reds took over the nation of China and enslaved the population of China.... a situation that continues to this day! Death to the Reds, and in an ideal world, a Tiawan-led China would result from any reunification (or perhaps never a reunification).
