Team Game #2 - OCC Conquest only

Okay settle him,
yup take all health resis you need ofc.

Agree with going for Edu fast,
we can replace Paci with NE.

Sankore not good enuf imo, if we can get HBR meanwhile we could use stables (after NE),
with hammer bonuses from Bur i would also lean towards research building as filler so we can reach Edu & Ox faster?

Played up to 1AD.

Here's the report
Spoiler :

As agreed on I settled the GE on t108.

t109:
Civil Service is in, next tech is Paper for a quick road to Education. I immediately switch civics to Bureaucracy and Organized Religion (1 turn of anarchy). Meanwhile I chopped the forest 1S of the Gold for 30:hammers: into the Forge and getting a start on chain-farming.
Abroad:
Cathy is going the religious route, she founds Christianity.
Hatty is going well on warfare as she captured Maastricht from Cathy. Hatty also receives a Great General.
Spoiler Hatty stacks :

t109 hatty stack 2.JPG

Brennus teched Feudalism.

t110:
A new forest has grown near Madrid :). Both workers are farming now.
I renegotiated the Cow deal with Brennus.
Spoiler Brennus Cow deal :

t110 brennus new cow deal.JPG

A barb Galley has shown up near our Fish. Hopefully he won't go there.
Spoiler Barb Galley :

t110 barb galley.JPG

Abroad:
Genghis finishes the Parthenon in Washington.
Hatty techs Music and receives a Great Artist.
Brennus switches to Vassalage + Caste + Organized Religion.

t111:
Forge is finished, next build is NE. I cancelled the Pig for Sugar deal with Genghis to get Madrid healthy again. Both workers finish the first chain-farm. The Barb Galley is gone :).
Abroad:
Cathy becomes Christian.
Genghis decides that Stalin is no longer his worst enemy. He hates Cathy more now.
Looking at the trade screens I see that both Hatty and Genghis are WFYABTA.

t112:
Madrid grows to size 13 and becomes unhealthy again. I cancelled the Fish for 3gpt with Sury. (In hindsight I could have done better by making another deal with Brennus. Could have done Gold for Fish.)
Both workers go 1NE to farm the plains.
Abroad:
Hatty adopts Hereditary Rule.
Cathy founds Leiden on an island. She was the reason that the Barb Galley is no more.

t113:
Both workers are still farming.
Abroad:
Brennus completes Chichen Itza in Bibracte.
Brennus will trade HBR.

t114:
One worker finishes the chain-farm. The wheat spot is irrigated now for an extra :food:. The second worker goes 2S to start chopping the forest.
Genghis demands that I cancel all deals with Cathy. I refused, because Madrid would become unhealthy.
Spoiler Genghis demand :

t115:
I stop here at the beginning of the turn. NE will be ready next turn without any overflow. Paper will be teched next turn.
Abroad:
Cathy techs Philosophy and founds Taoism.
Sury will trade Machinery.
Brennus will trade Feudalism.

I haven't done any tech trades to wait for good techs that we can get from Civil Service. Maybe now is the time to do that. Also with Paper coming in we might be able to do some map trading for gold.
I went for growth of Madrid instead of switching some farms for the ocean tiles. The extra food now gained can be used to assign more scientists when we have NE + Uni + Oxford.
The next GP will be born on t119. If it's a scientist I suggest a bulb towards Education. If it's an engineer... well... don't know yet.

Great writeup :)

Would suggest giving Stalin Lit, Calendar or so (for some gold or free),
with fair trade bonuses we might get cautious and a new trading AI.
Sury trades everything anyways (almost looks like Mansa, with Machinery already?), so nps if we get some worst enemy -diplo.

Drama or HBR would both be good techs to get, for theatre (+1 from dye) and stables.
If we cannot build any of those, i would suggest research until Edu or until we cannot speed it up anymore (yup let's hope for GS bulb).
Agree that no good trades are available atm.

We have no chance for horsies west of Leiria, she must have culture bombed that city (reaching even into Madrid now lol).

I'm on it rn, sorry for the delay. I agree with most of what Fippy said except for the Stalin trade: we're at -5 with him and already +1 fair trade, we'd have to give him a whole bunch of tech to get him to +4 fair trade & cautious, so I don't think it's a good idea.

Played to T124. Oxford is in. Will write-up later.

Is there any progress on the write up?
Please also add your thoughts on how to play the next turns.

Just here to watch. I'm a bit too rusty I think, and hate playing this leader, not to mention you guys have played it in a very unorthodox method to what I would do. But I guess everyone is unorthodox to my style anyhow. Will continue lurking in the meantime.

Just 2 turns in, cos i have a not unimportant question :)
We got another GS, and my first thought would be we bulb Philo now.
Usefulness of OR is running out, Paci would pay back some of those GP points invested into the bulb.
Only 1 AI has Philo so far (Cathy), and we cannot tech something useful after GP too without Philo.

Traded for Compass so we can build a harbor, good for health (no more resis available).
Also for horsies from Cathy, she became cautious after switching into free reli.
They cost us some gpt, but are too important imo.

Sounds like a good idea. It's unlikely that we'll be able to trade for Philo in time. There'll be another GS (hopefully) in 9-10T to bulb Lib.

Is there any progress on the write up?
Please also add your thoughts on how to play the next turns.
Btw sorry about that, I had it written down somewhere a couple of months ago but lost it.

Hm... an OCC conquest victory. I guess it doubles as a culture victory, since your culture will be the only one on the planet :D

Quick question: wouldn't a hammer & food heavy capital be the best (well apart from goldmines ofc) for an OCC? I'm asking because you decided to settle on the middle gold instead of the southern gold, which is great for some reasons, but you basically didn't get stone and one mine and replaced it with grasslands. With all the multipliers an OCC city gets, I'd argue it's more important to have strong production (grabbing 2 more plains hills + stone in BFC) rather than population (growth). Am I wrong?

settling on the middle gold opened the possibility of a harbor for extra :health: and a lighthouse for extra :food: on the lake. Stone is helpful, but we already have cows and gold for the :hammers:. :food: and :health: are most problematic in occ games. Especially :food: to run specialists.

I agree on bulbing Philosophy to open up Nationalism and getting Pacifism.
Took a look at the save.

As we stand now:
Bulb Philo and switch to Pacifism. We'll grow to size 15 on t129 and will finish the harbor on the same time. Then we can build temple/colosseum/stables.
Gunpowder will be teched on t130. Then we can tech Nationalism (estimate t138 teched).
Next GP estimate is t135 and the following on t141 if we decide to grow to size 16 first and then assign 3 more scientists.

We can use Philo as trade fodder also.
I'd like to see the following techs gained from trades:
Machinery, Feudalism, Music and Theology.
That leaves us Chemistry, Engineering, Guilds and Liberalism to tech/trade. Military Tradition can come from Liberalism.

After Military Tradition we only need Printing Press and Scientific Method to open up Communism for State Property to make workshops even better.
And if possible we can also go for Military Science for Blitz and maybe a Military Academy from a Great General to boost our Conqs production even more.

And I remember trying a OCC conquest game once and finding out an AI had spread to a few island so it's always nice to settle on the ocean.
