Team Game #2 - OCC Conquest only

Sorry for the delay, was busy.
475 AD, some highlights :)

We are now ~5t away from Conqs, and i started building HAs.
Figured size 16 should be our max, and used some food for shrinking & more scientists.
Lib bulbed, GP also has beakers in (started on Natio after Philo).
If Hatshy takes that city where our last warrior scouts, we might lose horsie trade?

Next GP will be good for golden age imo, civic switches and initial prod boost (hopefully we can trade for Theo).

I guess you decided to run one GE to get the HA done this turn.
When we upgrade those HAs to Conqs, do we need both Iron and Horse to do that?
I'm worried about our happiness in the city. When at war we'll probably encounter war-weariness. Shouldn't we build Colosseum/Temple to counter the unhappiness?
If someone wants to play the next set before the weekend, I would say go ahead. If not, I'll play the next set on Saturday.
Any tips/guidelines appreciated off course.

Conqs are just a cuirassier (with a 50% melee bonus).

Since cuirassiers need both Iron AND horses, so will the HAs when you upgrade.
 
Yep 1 HA each turn, we should talk a bit about HE.
With our next GP we could start a golden age, and switch Civics from Bur to Vass for 5t.
With Theo added we get an 8xp unit, and could then start HE.

Happy buildings, not too worried since we can use the culture slider if needed later,
i think getting a big army is more important first.
 
Played up to t139 580 AD.
An uneventful turnset.
Highlights:
I gave Paper to Hatty for 320g.
Traded Music + 255g for Theology with Cathy.
Brennus finishes the AP (Buddhist) and is the only possible candidate as a resident. Voted for him for possible diplo.
Cathy still holds The Hague, but it will possibly be captured next turn.
Liberalism will be teched next turn and a GP is also in next turn for the GA.
I put some turns in some more workshops to get to the necessary 39 base :hammers: for 1 turn Conqs production.

Future:
I agree on a Golden Age for civic switches and building the HE.
We only need Guilds, Engineering and Chemistry for good workshop production.
Probably we need to renegotiate some resource trades to get more out of it.

I'm curious about something... if you don't trade for iron NOW, won't the AI gouge you on prices when Military Tradition comes in?

From my memory, when ever you unlocked a world wonder that say... requires copper- the AI's tend to love to cancel their deal... and will charge higher copper $ knowing you will have to re-negotiate.
 
That is normal yes.
It's the same thing with say... Meditation and gold... Your ability to build Shadow-wagon playa ups the price of gold. Better sign deals for gold the turn before you get meditation.
Not sure how it works with iron though, since there are probably other things that make the price of iron high (such as pikes for example), and having yet another unit might not up the price more?

Hague falls, Hatshy running away a bit here she also has Natio now..

..Genghis also close, and i decide it's maybe better if we get Engi from Sury now before Nationalism gets traded around completely.
Also made him friendly.

Seeing that Cathy lost her extra horse tile, we trade for Iron now so we can upgrade some Conqs who could raze Hathsy's city that claims "ours".

well this was expensive, we suddenly went from gold playing no role to how will we pay all this ;)
Engi trade pays off already, Hatshy has gold (and everyone else the tech already)..no brainer :)

I wonder if we should just backstab her now already, and raze that horse stealing city.
Not much she can do against Conqs, and with her army at Cathy.

Recommend taking care of the potential runaway first, yes.

Are vassals/capping allowed?
 
Glad to see we are at the point of warfare now. I believe we did a great job getting here. But now it is a part of the game what I am crap at. I will need a LOT of help and guidelines to follow before I do a turnset.

Game would be pointless with no vassals allowed,
an endless razing & resettling of cities ;)
I remember doing one with none allowed. I had to set up a rail network (or modify existing road networks) with routine scouting patterns to keep hunting down the endless spawn of rebuilding. ;) It wasn't that bad. Just a tad tedious. But then civ by nature is kind of tedious. :lol:

Chaos report..the evil Portus finally were punished for stealing our mounts.

Ironically we won 2 tuff battles, and then lost against a lowly Sword (i always promoted, not taking risks)
Meanwhile Cathy has solid defenses..

Moving back & gathering all our units on the hill (Conqs get defensive bonuses), our advisor suddenly shouts out: our horsies! They are stolen again, their borders expanded! And yup, Braga now..next turn we look again, see 3 longbows and attack:

2 losses at 70% + odds, not too good. But our animals are liberated again, and we can 1-turn Conqs from now.
A look at Madrid, i would suggest starving some more GP points out while we golden age.

Chopped 1 forest for prod help, looks goodie overall i doubt we need Police State.
With Rep we can continue teching better.
We may actually want to lose 1 pop, if no more health resi trades can be recovered.
Oh and Genghis also joined in, against Brennus..nice little world war started.
