How much time do we have for the first update?

I was actually just preparing to announce an order lock. :)

I'd say orders lock in 72 hours. When in doubt, be sure to get me a general outline so your nation is managed the way you desire.

To the orders I've received so far, I'd just like to congratulate all who composed them; they're looking very thorough and detailed.

Should I expect to send orders for the first update?

That would be a good idea, yes. Even a general guideline is good since it helps me ensure that your nation goes the way you want it to.

And, PS, I calculated the Cahuilla as having ~1.7m people.

Everyone started with more or less the same population for balance purposes. As time goes on, roleplay and mechanics will probably shift things differently, so your number likely will be approached more as the game progresses.

The reason I have population numbers limited is because they have an impact on gameplay: population is a determinant of how large your military can be before serious penalties start setting in.

dark_castle.jpg

The mountain range that helped shield Baase from the east, Beinndoo, had over periods of time being the destination of those seeking isolative places to study and commence ritual, as well as a importance place to deploy watch posts so as to keep the defence of Baase, especially with the development of mining and the isolative settlements that came with them. Among the monasteries, shrines, watchtowers, villages, mines, lone huts and mountain crypts came castles and towers of darkness. Many decayed and even collapse over the many years that the necromancers had hold on what was Thalloo. One notable was a dark castle on a “low” peak that be placed between the capital of Ardloght and the mining settlement of Yiarn: a towering castle that goes by the name of Dorridard. It began in the time before Thalloo was a place of necromancy as a simple stone training ground for those deemed worthy enough. It came home before this however to necromancer ritualism that came from the consideration of the peaks as a “beacon of phantom beings, singing gentle songs of what is to be and what will lead to thee but in words no being alive or dead, may understand.” When Thalloo came under necromancer control the fort managed to hold out, leading it to be ignored by the necromancers, allowing it to be a heaven for those preparing to strike the dark nation that Thalloo became. Then Scaanoar came and snaked the entire fort, raising the dead guardians into workers to develop the remains to make a watch point. After Scaanoar the place was then abandoned till the rein of the grand dukes of Thalloo created the foundations and set to continue for years, those who succeeded continue till it reached high in the sky. However it strength did not stop it getting abandoned from the civil unrest that took the Grand Duchy of Thalloo. It came under ownership many times over the countless years: with the Necrocracy of Baase it began an additional command centre for the army, a popular place for liching rituals, a study place for those wishing to teach at the academies of Baase, the graduate hall for new death knights in many of the orders, rest place for travellers in the mountains and a official retreat for the Marro-ghrussaieaae.

Aquilus Regina was crossed legged in a lone room in the central keep, the room’s only light being a circle of candles sitting around her. Her dark silk cape was wrapped around her. Meditation had been a practice encouraged among the necromancer faiths, especially Mando and Enyegiz. Even among those who did not practice a faith it was encourage to meditate as a way to reflect on the dark powers of necromancy, considering on how to channel energies and to reflect on the path of darkness. The candles and their light were a ever reminder: darkness cannot be without light, for one would not be able to define darkness without something to compare it to.

Through darkness Aquilus though deeply, her nostrils taking in the air of the room slowly, the matter of serving as head of the Necrocracy of Baase easing as she cleared her mind, emptying it of its baggage, all so she could feel direction, in hope of seeking a answer to the problems, in hope of…

“Forgive me mistress but a Jiarg representative has arrived to seek your audience.”

The interruption came from a ghoulish adept of necromancer in pitch black hopes complete with hood that went over the top of the face that had taken service as one of Regina’s servants. The Marro-ghrussaieaae got up in a flash, the candles going out as the dark cape figure gave out a morning of annoyance at being interrupted by ever interruptive presence of the Jiarg family. Now in complete darkness she went swiply without giving a word to her servent, knowing well that the Jiargs would have sent a figure who would be in the face of the Marro-ghrussaieaae and there was a room on the level she was at which suited such purpose. Through the simple dark grey passages lit only by small candles she entered through a oaken door made and opened it to enter the break room.

The room was semicircle in shape: the flat line being the location of the door which the Marro-ghrussaieaae stood at now. Much of the room was of glass windows set in arched shapes, set around dark stone. Light came from a single but strong source: a round stone circle set by radius in what could be considered the middle the room. In the centre of this round stone table was a pyre of deep fury, its fire heating up the entire room, contrast to the cold state of the mountains. Simple stone seats surrounded this table: on the end nearest the radius of windows was a figure in full clothing most white it made pure snow of winter dreams look dark in comparison. This was done by etches of tiny diamonds among the shapes and curves of silver thread, from gloves to boots to trousers to tunic to the hood. The face was a greyish aero blue with sharp fangs coming from a mouth that was armed with dark red lips, while the hood covered the eyes in shadow but those eyes were dark red for this was the youngest of Moidyn Jiarg’s sisters, Raishtey.

“Why have you interrupted me?” came the greetings of the Marro-ghrussaieaae to the youngest sister of the Duchess of Cheerfuill.

“I come at my sister’s bidding to give counsel on matters of Towl Jiarg and of our merchant struggles.” It came to notice that Raishtey had in her right hand an copper goblet, which she drank a red liquid from: what it was was not on the priority list of Aquilus.

“I have given approvel for your quest to make Towl Jiarg even in light of the Baltic demonstration and the Leighdersca has interest in merchant glory: why would you need to be here to interrupt my thoughts?” went Aquilus.

“Simple” went Raishtey. “By big sister wants to be sure that you are sure on your quest to aid Jairg… I mean Baasen trade. With special note given to the case of the GMR and its calling of us as…”

“Abominations. I know Raishtey: it appears the prejudice of the “holy” have come into play. They set us as enemies already. They want to have an enemy. They pick on those that do not take their blinded dogma.”

“To be honest o ritual performer who runs a nation of occults and zealous orders I have consideration that our own reputation may not be as, to use the phase of the GMR monks, holy than though. The GMR are just the most obvious (and hence detestable) opposition to allowing our trade vessels into the ports of the living… and not the dark power casting type of that living. The hymns of trade can be scared away by the shouts of hostiles binaries.”

“Trade is in the realms of binary in itself when it comes to the usages of currency and…”

“But compared to ideas? Peace!”

“You are aware that in interruption you show impoliteness to your Marro-ghrussaieaae.”

“Who has the highest wealth that is not of the government coffers?”

“Is not the Jiargs a government in themselves? Duchies are not what I call stateless entities.”

“It is our hard merchant fleets that ensure this!”

“Fleets you have a history of bribing the official leadership of Baase to give you the primal navy as service to guard your vessels? You have been aided in your time.”
“Piracy is a nasty thing to happen to you.”

“I will give you that credit.”

“Still back to the GMR: I have been thinking of them.”

“And what great tome of thought is to come from this?”

“You are lucky I am patient Raishtey or I would use my privilege power of having you removed from the castle, perhaps without the transportation you came with.”

“I took my elder sister’s spair carriage. You know she would be mad if that carriage and I do not return to her.”

“She is not as powerful as you make her out to be.”

“Money is a great power.”

“Power is power. Money cannot buy the loyalty of my closest aids, nor can it compare to the secrets of darkness and the knowledge of administration that I can set to hinder your… corruptive influence.”

“Corruptive influence? Is that what you call our exchange of gifts?”

“Gifts for doing as the Jiarg family says.”

“Hay! It’s nothing compared to the great trio of the Bingdoo or the crude brutal influence of Furvus Rhinoceros!”

“Was not Furvus your making of family of Jiarg?”

“We only kept him to 8 till the… occurrence.”

“Is that what you call threatening a child over the great clouds?”

“Hay! It was mad times! We were giving better treatment than when he was at the hands of the Eederdeiney family! The boy is what he is today by the jolly hands of the Krigskygge, who I heard were only a bit gentler than our programme with the boy.”
“The boy who grew to be the end of humanoid blood cattle practice…”

“True but that does not him being a brute. How many death knights he executed for the crime of being a person of a different order that so happen was in the times of the rebellious efforts of Mailloche Meurtrier and Bianco Giudicare? We both know the majority of the death knights marked as traitors by Furvus are but in only crime against Baassen society was being in a different club to Furvus?”

“He vices and virtues are as ever known or have you come to lecture on what is mostly known?”

“Then why is Furvus is not destroyed for his crimes?”

“I said mostly known or have the works of spies leaked?”

“Well Furvus and Regale are still from this more nasty work than the Jiargs would you not say? Regale Morte, ever a wise teacher and lich of virtue, her power is build on a information network set to threaten the privacy of us all.”

“Says the Jiarg family.”

“Hay! Our spies are in self-defence! She has nasty efforts.”

“Says the Jiarg family.”

“Says the outsider who came to power over the efforts of a death knight and a necromancer who was a duke… of Diucdaght. Unless the Jiarg bloodline is linked with the Meurtrier and Giudicare families then the only thing we Jiargs did was throw a traitor off the edge.”

“Forgive me but it is common knowledge…”

“Yes I know but compared to Meurtrier and Giudicare efforts the acts of the Jiargs were just birds flying.”

“Still… back to the subject our “abomination” status…”

“O… that. Well… what should I inform my duchess and eldest sister about? What did you think about up in this place of high darkness”

“I will address the Leighdersca.”

“A noble effort.”

“I will address and inform the Leighdersca that it is my vision to react to the aggressive tone of our enemies of old.”

“I better tell my merchants to buy some weap…”

“We will find an effort of peace co-existence

“What? No noble effort to…”

“I will suggest we declare that the GMR have simply lost their vision to the blindness of light and that embargoes are a blade that hurts two figures, the one who it is inflicted upon and the one who holds onto the sharp, blood slashing blade

“O right…”

“We will inform our merchants to try to find ways to trade with those in the GMR that are not blinded but if not possible we will at the least offer Baase as a refuge to those who are discriminated by the zealots of the “holy” and to inform the rest of the world that we will reserve our hated clashing of words between each other only. That way we will avoid the ugliness of war more so

“A noble effort.”

“In time the Leighdersca and I will decide on further action but this will be dictated by what occurs in time, ever the willing of death

“Death, death, death… anything else?”

“Yes: Aquilus Regina requests that you Raishtey Jiarg to head back to Moidyn Jiarg’s spare carriage, where you will inform your sister and as many figures as possible of what we said here.”

“We are not keeping this chat close?” As Raishtey spoke that she noticed something she did not notice before: in a dark corner she had noted bones but failed to note that this skeleton… or rather a unclothed lich… had been writing into a greyish yellow silk cloth.

“As you may see” Aquilus said while directing Raishtey to the door “I like to be open when it is possible.”

“But secrets said?”

“An openness policy.”

“Your part in secrets?”

“Confessions.”

“Well… I will do my best” went Raishtey taking to the corridor. “Be sure to mention your noble meditation in how you were interrupted by Raishtey Jiarg.”

“I will consider it” went Aquilus who saw Raishtey to go down the stairs.
Aquilus then quietly went back to her room of meditation. She lit the candles once more and sat down to meditate.

You cannot think too much.

OOC: I will possibly use Pax Deorum as a theme for Aquilus Regina

Calaari Technologys originate from the deep past of ca.5000 years (The building of the first printing presses and manufactures.)The base for the Calaari technology were the advanced technologys of their southern neighbor Ajah. However, very soon the Calaari developed theyre own technologies, completly different from that of Ajah.Today Viyaya is one of the most advanced nations, on part with Grue Kingdom and Ajah. The rapid technological advancement took place because of the small body height, the weak endurance and the Ideology of the Calaari people.Even the motto is:Energy, Technic, Advancement

Calaarian Navy:The Calaari were the first who started using warships defended by iron sheets.A completly new Inventation is a Deepgasshiip (Submarine) , a ship made to one half of metall sheets, not iron - it melts too fast, that goes very deep into the warm, thick gases and don't needs a gas ballon down there. It's main weapon is a torpedo launcher, using torpedoes - also a brand-new invention. The main moving power of the Calaarian navy is the marine turbine for the Deepgasships and the propellor for normal airships. The main downside is the immense expensivity of Calaarian ships.

On Army:The army also uses the most modern aviable technologies, like torpedoes and semi automatic rifles with armor piercing bullets.A antic invention from the times of the third dynasty, , prior a 37-layers Cannabiswast against the Calaari matrial arts (involving claws), now, thickened to 77-layers, it protects aginst bullets(except piercing bullets).

Update II: 4 TY

Map
Stats

As the world’s nations expand their domain, perhaps the most notable expansion is that of Ajah; with enormous funds to settlers and entrepreneurs alike, the country has expanded to cover vast swathes of territory. Effective settlement remains to be seen, but the country’s economic future is clearly secured by all the newly-acquired land and resources. Given time, it is probable Ajah will become a leading power.

The Romanora have taken a different approach to prosperity, pumping the vast majority of their taxed funds back into the nation’s banks. It is no surprise they have seen a massive jump in growth as the massively-expanded credit supply is taken advantage of by investors. However, due to the country’s neglected infrastructure, the bonuses of this private sector activity have been negated.

Meanwhile, the Green Merchant Republic has established a trading outpost at the mouth of a river near the Viyaya realm; the Viyaya have attempted to expand into the area as well, and it is expected a diplomatic crisis will result. The Viyaya have enormously funded expansion, however, so it is presumed they will have the economy to back up any demands they make.

The healthcare of the Cahuilla baffles the mind, vastly superior despite the tribal activities of the civilization. Analysts believe the highly-active lifestyle of the Cahuilla has greatly reduced the strain on the healthcare facilities of the country, explaining how it outperforms others when coupled with generous funding.

There have already been tensions between the Empire and the Baltiks, and likewise the Merchant Republic and the Necrocracy. Fortunately no actual conflict has arisen from these, merely restrictions on trade. Fortunately the distance between the latter two prevents active naval conflict, which military analysts have feared might occur if tensions rose high enough.

As a gameplay note, if no orders are given this turn and the next, I will presume the player has lost interest and eliminate their nation. Sudden Death is a standard policy of mine, but given that the game just started I’m naturally more lenient.

In absence of military numbers in the orders, I assume 1% of the population and split it evenly; the number can be changed each turn simply by giving me new ones in your orders.

hmm lets see...

I have 8794 credits.

Army - 1000
Navy - 1000
Espionage - 794
Education - 2000
Healthcare - 2000
Infrastructure - 2000

Army size - 100,000
Navy size - 150,000

the Mathalamus Empire continues to emphasize Economic and social development over the military. after all, it is the best path for now.

the Capital city of Mathis is home to nearly 4 million people, 40% of the population. the other 60 percent live elsewhere.

The Grue's army is 1% of the population, however they have the ability to mobilize a large pool of soldiers during wartime.

The Hulor International Authority has defined the official SOI of the Dermul people. This is subject to expansion as Dermul colonisation of Junor and Telmar continues. Incursions will not be tolerated.

Aquilus Regina in addressing the Leighdersca.png

Greetings councillors of shadows, who serve the darkness for the prosperity of Baase!

The nation of Baase is rising from its grave, from the dirt prison of isolationism to look at the dark plains of wonder and co-existence. We are growing as a power, reunited all that was and will soon make that which will be. Baase has reclaimed itself and now will continue to rise from the ashes, the dust that we were now turning into our strength. The night calls us and we call the night. Our knowledge is developing well as we prepare to face our challenges face on. We fear not our challenge for death comes to everything: we fear not what is destined. We fear only fear itself and perhaps the failure that will come if we do not try to improve the Necrocracy.

We face opposition from the “holy” sects within the GMR: let them speak of us in ill name for we are destined to rise, not fearing the petty words of excommunicators and other haters of what is destined. We will open ourselves to the refugees that wish to flee the GMR: the excommunicated, the ones the excommunicators label as “heretics and infidels.” We open to those who wish to avoid being governed by a government of hatred that is the GMR by leaving the nation of the GMR. Merchants will find us more open than the doors of the “holy” excommunicators. Darkness, unlike light, protects. We will however set this not as an operation of conflict: it is my note to all you councillors of the dark to remember that peace is the agent of prosperity and darkness requires Baase to prosper. We hence will not seek overly aggressive engagement with the GMR, instead allowing gentle access for those who do not wish to be within the GMR.

I am ensuring that Towl Jiarg will be set up: our failure to set up our outer continental port will not be permanent. We lost a match but not the game. It is my desire we have Towl Jiarg in existence, on the future maps of Baase. The sport will allow us economic ease and pose an experiment for future colonial exercises. We will also use it as an experiment on ways to spread the words of darkness, Towl Jiarg perhaps serving as a beacon of darkness, helping people escape the storm of light. The Batlic people will be pleased to access to the schools of darkness that will be set up in Towl Jiarg, as well as the opportunities of commerce from trading with our port. We remind the Batlic that Towl Jiarg and the surrounding area around it for its support is the only interests of Baase in the Baltic continent: it is but one area of soil in a great continent. Councillors of darkness: know our mission is one of the benefits of all!

I am pleased with the report that Baasen education is regarded highly. I do however see our maintaining of the undead of Baase, the healthcare of the living populations within Baase and infrastructure as in need of… improvement. Education will continue to be our primal concern as knowledge is power and all other considerations require knowledge to allow us to win the battles. To win the war for our prosperity however we will need to ensure the peace that will emerge from improved maintaining of our citizens and better infrastructure for our benefit, which will of course benefit those that strive for knowledge very well, along with merchant groups and missionaries of darkness. We must benefit Baase!

To this end I declare my words are in need of your considerations o councillors of darkness! Baase requires your own wisdom along with my wisdom in order to allow the Necrocracy is grow more.

Our prosperity must and will be our destiny!

Below is a map of claiment plans.

Purple is Baase today as pink is Baase tomarrow.png

As you may note: the pink is the areas we are claiming, which will include the area we wish to set up as Towl Jiarg. How much of the pink area will become one with Baase will depend on the efforts of our settlers but Towl Jiarg (the claim area on the other continent) will be set as Baasen control for the sake of our interests.

Killin glanced nervously through the doors between the hangar and the room that usually served as the engineers mess. The tables that usually filled the floor had been cleared and replaced with chairs from the officers reception room. In those chairs were seated President Negel of Nadrat, First Councillor Fel of Korin, Queen Tresh of Galat and General Secretary Mallal along with assorted generals and admirals of the national and international military forces. And they were all here to see Killin.

As the clock ticked past fifteen the main lights in the mess were dimmed and a spotlight turned on the lectern. Swallowing hard Killin pushed the doors open and strode into the light, his tail only kept from its nervous twitching through sheer force of will.

"Honoured guests," he began, "thirty years ago Huril Noo of the University of Nadrat successfully synthesized hydrogen in sufficient quantities to raise a vehicle from the surface of Hulor. Although he envisioned a weapon of war that invention led to the peace we enjoy today. Now we Dermul have colonies on Telmar and Junor and have met with strange peoples we did not know existed when Huril began his work. Although our trade has been peaceful so far they are not like us and cannot be trusted not to turn on us for their own short term gain so I was given the task of improving the Huril Aerial Transport.
"I began by identifying the prime weaknesses of the Huril design, namely the vulnerability of the lift source and its propensity to spontaneous combustion coupled with a low lift to volume ratio.
"All these weaknesses can be traced back to the use of hydrogen as the lift gas.
Initial experiments with other left gasses were fruitless. The only gas that offered any kind of advantage was helium, which is not prone to spontaneous combustion but is outperformed by hydrogen in all other metrics."

"At this stage we were rather disheartened. One of the students even suggested investigating heavy-than-air means of transportation, I assure the Secretary for Science he has been reassigned to the botanical department where such ideas cannot hold back serious research. Yet eventually fortune intervened.
"My uncle had served in the Korinian army as a Jofrin Armoured Carriage driver and had a tendency to ramble on about the last war. During one of these reminiscences at a family occasion he casually mentioned how the rear treads lost grip when the exhaust from the Terium engine was clogged with mud. He did not know why but I realised that the gaseous emission of the Terium engine must be sufficiently light to lift a Jofrin.
"Reinvigorated I acquired Terium samples and began experimenting, confirming the incredible lift it provided. Certainly sufficient to make the required improvements.
"Now if you will follow me to the hangar I would like to unveil the Killin Aerial Vehicle."

Killin left the stage and pushed open the doors to the hangar, the assembled politicians and officers following. He heard them gasp and knew he'd timed it just right for the setting sun to catch the gleaming brass vessel in just the right way.
The vessel was about twice the size of the gondola of a regular Huril and was entirely dwarfed by the hangar, which was built to contain a Huril and its bag.

"Where's the rest of it?" asked an HIA admiral.
"This is it," replied Killin, "by replacing hydrogen with gaseous Terium we can achieve sufficient lift with a fraction of the volume. On each side of the gondola you can see the gas spheres that provide the lift.
"unlike the Huril which keeps all the hydrogen in a single bag the KAV uses seven pairs of spheres containing a quantity of Terium. At the rear of the KAV you can see a Terium generator. This is used to create controllable anbaric fields in the spheres that activates the Terium, providing lift.
"By using anbaric fields in this way we can control the altitude of the KAV with much greater finesse than the Huril. You will also note that the sphere's are composed of brass, as opposed to the waxed leather used in the Huril. This makes the gas considerably less vulnerable to enemy fire. In addition the separated nature of the spheres mean that even if one is punctured the KAV can remain airborne. Indeed only a single sphere is needed to keep a KAV in the air, although even flying requires two spheres, one on either side of the gondola.
"Any questions?"
"How big can these go?" asked a Galashian general
"The only limit to the size is the amount of Terium that can be acquired and the desired maximum altitude. This fourteen sphere prototype can reach far greater heights than our current AA cannons can fire but the amount of Terium used could maintain keep a vessel twenty times its size at the altitudes Huril's usually operate at."
"How is it with winds?" asked the Korinian defence minister.
"As a gas bag is no longer needed the KAV is affected by atmospheric conditions far less than other aerial vehicles, it can even make progress against the strongest winds yet recorded. I think it best that you come aboard and I shall answer any more questions after the cruise."

OOC: How big is my bonus for keeping my army so small? Is it really worth it? Or is there just a penalty once a certain level is reached?

The military is set up in such a manner a smaller one will always have more economic growth than a big one, at least from that factor alone. Logically, even if smaller is better, the extra growth does no good if one's defenseless.

I can't give the specifics, but the system is set up so 1-2% of population is the best range. Going higher starts to put increasing strain on the economy, whereas going lower has economic benefits but will leave you weak to outside invasion.

Which Ajah, being poised to become rich due to its size and likely resources, doesn't want. :p

Sorry but I will have to drop this. Not enough interest combined with I&B 4 coming back in the IOT forums has caused me to drop this.

Yeah this needs some life breathed into. I will do that soon by writing some moar RP.

I'm really pressed for time this week. Likely no RP to be had. Ajah focus on consolidating their expansion, developing their new settlements, and maximizing profits from all the new enterprises. The army grows as the population grows, as well as more and more native Ajah join the forces. The culture of the New Supremacy shifts ever closer to that of old Celestae.
