The CFC Confessions Thread

-1 to that +1 because of 1 Timothy 3:2.
I'm not cut out to be a bishop.

Perfection would like to have a word with you... He's over there, in the batting cages, with the bat.
Oh, man, WHY DID I HAVE TO OPEN MY BIG MOUTH KEYBOARD. I'M DOOMED!!!! MERCY, PERFECTION, MERCY!!!!

I was commenting on the whole Monasticism thing. Its -1 because "Monasticism" is based on the idea that overseers (Who are more akin to a modern "Pastor" than a modern "Bishop") were allowed to marry and be married, according to the text...

I get depressed very easily, and somewhat often. I just act mostly happy on here because real life sucks, and I don't want you all to hate me like people at school already do :(\

And I suck at conversing in real life, I am so awkward :(

Doesn't mean I can't be single though. :D

Of course you can. The Apostle Paul did it.

Meh, this isn't the thread for theological debate. I was debating the idea of clergymen HAVING to be celibate like the Catholic (And to a slightly lesser extent Orthodox) churches teach.

Confession: I made this thread so I could see the things other people are doing and I could feel better about myself

I hate nationalism and patriotism.

I hate many countries just because I hate the people I know who come from there I've met online. (England, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Brazil ect.)

I love China!

lolwut

I hate nationalism. A lot. I do like Patriotism, although sometimes I don't feel so patriotic myself.
Nationalism and patriotism are, definitionally, the same thing. Patriotism is just overtly positive-connoted.

I hate nationalists and Ponyists.

I sometimes become depressed after reflecting on my life and the world.

I'm lazy, sometimes to the point of not even finishing my sen

I wonder if, when (or if) I get my Ph. D. in history, I will actually be contributing anything to society by being a professor. Aside from the fact that it's fascinating, what's the usefulness of knowledge of history beyond the basics? There's only so much we can learn from the past if each time is different.

I've never had a girlfriend, and it's unlikely that I'll ever see the girl I liked most again.

I have little interest in alcohol.

Part of being a historian, I feel, is the knowledge that every human life has meaning and value, and that telling their stories has intrinsic worth. A historian's duty is less to find out wie es eigentlich gewesen - in many cases, an impossible dream - and more to do justice to the past, if that makes any sense.

Also, just because each time is different doesn't mean that knowing about what once happened can't give you a sense of the sort of questions to ask about this time.

I'm not quite sure I follow. I mean, first, I don't think the life stories of most individuals are worth much study (though you probably meant something else), and what do you mean by "meaning and value" as it applies to human life? Honest question, just curious.

And what exactly do you mean by "do justice to the past"? To me, that means disspelling misconceptions about it and to represent it as close to the truth as we can, given our knowledge.

Lately I've been understanding the part about "do[ing] justice to the past." Paritcularly since I've somehow become a rabid Eurocentrism hater. That alone is enough to keep me going for my history knowledge, for now, to prove to the world and help others understand that everybody and every culture and every civilization has the potential to be douchebags. :mwaha:

I actually worry that I'm horribly out of touch with my fellow common folk. I see the success of guys like Stephen Harper or Mitt Romney succeed on all things of economics platforms, and I just don't get it. I worry that I'm missing something.
