Again as a high schooler I feel obliged to ask this, but what does everyone define a clique as, because it seems people don't realize how they work. People in a clique are free to disagree with each other, just not vehemently or in any way that might disrupt the harmony of the clique. A clique also requires time to build. Constant contact in a set location for years.
They are mobile- people are free to leave and enter, as long as they adopt the mindset of the clique. And finally, they require some sort of social pressure. Some concept of, I better watch what I say, I should censure myself. These forums don't have that social pressure, that exists in high school. I can say that I have seen certain posts of mine and I wonder why it seems so much meaner than what I would say in real life. Also, when people disagree with me, I don't feel hurt because I don't really care what they say about me. Of course I have not actually roused anyone's ire (must be doing something wrong here) and have not been accused of being some very bad things so maybe it can be hurtful.
However if one defines a clique much more loosely, as a type of group mentality, then society is a clique. These forums have cliques. Political parties are cliques. That doesn't make it a bad thing. Some views, such as racism is a bad thing, have been reinforced by group mentality over the years.
