That Ultima Tower will never be built. From their own numbers it costs $100,000/sq ft, where the Taipei 101 cost around $360/sq ft. The most expensive skyscraper sale was still only $1200/sq ft.

I also have to put in the local pride. The world's tallest and second tallest structures are a few miles from my house. They're both built, but the KXJB tower fell down about 10 years ago, so it was "unbuilt" while they were rebuilding it.

Also, the FAA won't let anything in America be taller than the KVLY tower at 2063 feet, so it'll take some major lobbying to get that Chicago tower built.

Anyway, I still like large practical buildings over gigantic things that are built just because they think they can. If we did build something like that, I'd personally rather have a vast underground structure than a big tower.

Wow, for the cost of only an 8th of the Canadian economy for one year, we could have one of those? Sweet, I say lets do it.

Are the costs realistically only 150 billion? That is a bit over half the greek yearly economy as well.

But ussually the costs rise rapidly when the project is being seriously examined for building, and that site does not look like it can produce an accurate estimate of them (?)
