The Deity Challenge Line-up #25 - Venice's Fool

It doesn't take much to be better than -7. :)

Yeah, I'm talking about 2 points at best, though ;)

However good this start is, I'd have had a better empire and won more easily with settlers available.

Would it be possible to get the original, unmodified save game posted as well? Might be fun to see how the "real" game would have played out, and how 'bad' Venice truly is.

Not recommended because you will get rolled by Red Impis turn 65.

On topic: Around 200 now, teching fairly slowly now because Blue cities are kind of crap (I teched Frigates and stomped him in 20 turns, Turtle Power was useless). Brandenburg Gate has been sniped sadly and I'm not expecting XCOMs before 250, maybe even more later. The systematic cleaning of the map is out of the question because that slog will just keep on going forever, Red and White are kind of a pain to deal with right now, so I'll try and blitz them, win before they realise what happened :)

I do not think so. I did not buy my first CS until much later, had no army except 3 archers, a warrior and a scout for forever, and was not DOWed. Just make sure he is fighting some other war. DOF also helps, since Shaka usually is loyal.

Red Shaka actually was a really good bodyguard in my game. Turtled till Bombers and waited some more for the friendship and RA to expire, but just finally DOWed him.

I don't think it will be T65 but without all those resources, Petra, free MoVs, you will have a really hard time staying alive past T150.

No worries. Thank you so much for an interesting April Fool's treat. It's great to learn that with Autocracy, happiness scales so much with # of cities. Next time I play on a Huge or Large map I will know what to do ;)

T285 - Blue Shaka wants peace.

Happiness after I accept all the cities. It only took about 6 turns to recover from that.

Hey, I actually did it :D

I was kind of behind the desired pace, I wanted XCOMs around 230, but I got them around 245, I think. Still, I mass produced them (4 per turn, with the money from the various national treasuries), and ended with around 25 which was JUST enough to clear all 5 remaining capitals in 2 turns. But let's go back.

Spoiler :

I used the first two MoVs for Trade Missions to get me some more gold for buying the sheep tiles, which at that point were definitely the most useful, edging Salt by a wee bit. I chained some wonders after that but missed HG, like I previously mentioned.

At one point Dark Red was dogpiled so I parked my Ironclads outside and waited for the city health to drop and then I simply stole the city :D being his final, I received the "you have defeated me" message twice from the same dude. That was 2 caps without any real conquest. He had HG and Pyramids built. It was then time to beeline towards XCOMs and Stealth Bombers. I would be a bit more behind but I got Hubble out in 5 turns. I stocked enough promotions in my cap to have XCOMs start with Blitz which proved out amazing, in one turn then could: paradrop then attack and then pillage. Instead of pillaging pull out so the next one can do it. A fine conga like that was. However, optical visibility was a bit of an issue so I had to use my more expendable XCOMs to leapfrog into city range. In the end, I finished with the last available XCOM, at least 2 caps would have been retaken the next turn :)

The only thing that bothered me was that the leader names were indistinguishable, if Shaka asks me to attack Sejong and I agree, I have no idea which of the 3 I agreed to attack until I see the DoW popup. Maybe that's not even possible, call them Red, White, Gray and Tan Zulu and Red, Blue and Teal Korea

Yeah it kinda sucked, but was part of the April Fool thing, I think. If the developers won't make sure multiplayer works properly or bugs are fixed, they sure as hell aren't gonna code it to say 'Shaka 1 has become a nuisance...'

When I look this screenshots from other player I wonder why none of the AI's in my game settled any cities north, west or east from venice. It was totally empty in my games. I had to keep 3 units patrolling there because of barbs. Maybe my units where always in place where AI's wanted to settle and they changed plans because of that?

I'm in the 300s now. I'm using some weapon systems here that I have never used before. I have double attack destroyers and I have GW Bombers with naval attack promos, air units relying on evasion. But I allowed a nasty pattern to emerge, I am always a little behind on the latest war gadgets. The enemy has fighters/bombers and even rocket artillery and paratroops. I just have infantry etc. It makes them a little more dangerous.

I would still like a time victory but I dont want to milk it since I did that already in the India ICL.

Cool win stormtrooper! Does anybody know the names of the original capitals? What with all the duplicate civs, I have no idea which cities I need to win, and which ones are safe to liberate...

I tried looking in CIV5Civilizations.xml for city lists, but can't find Korea or Zulu in there??? I assume the first 3 or 4 city names would be the capitals.

You can see original Capital names from Victory progress tab as well who is controlling them now. Also there isnt option for razing if it is original capital (or holy city in some rare cases) I think in my game original shaka had his second city as holy city. I dont know why it was their holy city because I build Hagia Sophia. Maybe they captured unused prophet from other civ

Time Victory T500 ;)

Spoiler :

  • more than 1 billion population
  • all social policies (a few missing in Freedom though)
  • Venice at 113 population

T1-250: played as a normal Venice game, bought 3 CSs
T250-300: first wave of nukes, xcoms and robots to slow down Red Shaka.
T300-450: clicking and waiting for the end (my turn times were actually very fast if anyone was wondering)
T450+: happiness problems
T480+: final push to reach 1 billion
The final score: 6200
Also at one point I had over 200K in the bank. Fun game, thanks :D

Nice going sun!

Thanks for the capital tip, BW. Does anybody know where the city names lists are for Korea/Zulu? Like Khangela and Maseru could possibly be either.
