The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Too bad you can only do it once a week...

The champion fight is nothing... you don't need it to make money, it just means a few grand souls at the latest stage. And you still need to get two empty grand soul gems (or three without Azura's star), which is very difficult for me - most soul gems I found/can buy are already filled.

I don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but the September edition of the UK PC Gamer put Oblivion as number one in their top 100 games of all time. It's the only new entry in the top ten.

Civ4 came 6th, BTW ;)

Top games of ALL TIME, or the year? cause I'd rate neither Civ4 or Oblivion in my top 10 games of all time. to be one of the best games of all time it must be both amazing, and something you've played for years and grown really attached to, like Civ2, Maniac Mansion or Monkey Island

Of the year, really, as it's updated annually. I'd say wait another five years and see where it is. There are several of the proper classics in there, like TIE Fighter and Day of the Tentacle.

In this one Daedric quest, there's this cave that has some Oblivion Realm elements to it (an isolated island, Oblivion briges over a black void). Anyway, there's this one room with a thing (looks like one of those wekland or alyied stones) that shoots out a huge ball of frost. It reminds me of the same thing in Legend of Zelda games where it would be in the center of the room and zap a laser at you - only the Oblivion version is more accurate.

Turns out, I had just finished an epic battle against 2 Frost Atronochs and 2 Clannfears. I turned around the hallway and went up to the door so I could replenish my health. Just as I peaked out, the frost ball hit me - game over.

Damn, that's cold CT (no Pun intended) :p

yeah those things annoy me too and yes they do remind me of those things from Zelda. I hated those things and still do :(

I've not played this game in a few days, once I got to the head of the Mage's and Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood I'm just not sure what else there is to do. I suppose I could do the Fighters Guild....

And those things, like the turrets in Oblivion, can still hit you when you're invisible.

Makes your life difficult when you're trying to sneak your way past the daedra in the room.

yeah I noticed that to my peril once. The good thing is, just like in Zelda, if you're hauling ass and not running directly towards it, then you should be ok....

As soon as I find a way of blocking elemental damage completely, the first thing i'm going to do is purge Oblivion of Atronachs. They're so annoying.

So you see a welkyn(or however you spell it) stone high up and wonder why did they put them higher then I can reach? Answer is shoot 'em down with a fire ball. Other good tips: Put your sword away and change your spell to some thing non-offencive when in a city. If you run around shotting fire balls in the woods to up your stats aim realy high. (I killed a npc)

I can never seem to raise my stats by firing fireballs into nowhere unless I actually hit something.

Anyway, speaking of annoying creatures, what do you think is the most annoying? (and compared to Morrowind, too)

EDIT: Oh, and I just finished that Daedric Quest where you recover the orb from the guy sleeping in the 'tower'.

Spoiler :
There's a trap door that you can go into! It's covered by plants in the fort, but away from the door! I thought to myself, "I spent ALL that time...!?"

@ Chieftess:

You can, your spells don't have to have any effect. It's probably just the display - the advancement is too small to be displayed.

And don't use expensive spells like fireball - make some cantrip spells. Touch or self range, 1 sec 1 point of effect.

The most annoying monsters are those who keep running away. Like the spider daedra or the daedra mage. They will lead you running for miles if they can.

The mages seem to run away more often. Then, when you catch up to them, they just stare at you like, "Oh great...".

I believe you do have to hit something with the destruction spells, or else they don't go up. It's not like the other spell types, IIRC.

The easiest way to up your destruction skills is to create a spell in the Arcane University that has 1 fire damage on self. Keep casting it, and once your health drops to a low level, use heal minor wound to up your restoration spell skill. Your spell skills go up according to how many times you cast a spell in that schooling, not how powerful an individual spell is.

The most annoying creature for me is Xivilai because they can summon tough creatures and keep attacking you with their heavy weapons.

There are times when I employ an hit and run strategy whenever I met a bunch of Xivilai and their creatures while playing as a melee oriented character.

At least their daedra heart is good, for potions :) .
