The "I Got A New Game!" Thread

I got Morrowind during the summer sale. I didn't think I could play on my laptop because I tried using the discs years ago without success. For some reason, the digital copy from Steam runs while my installs using the physical discs never worked.

I'm pleased by this :)

Last night I bought Command and Conquer: the First Decade, pretty much on impulse. RA1 won't install on my Vista machine, and RA2/Yuri's Revenge are completely unstable. I can't play a game more than a minute or so without it crashing due to an unhandled exception or something or another. So I spent the $20, hoping that the version of RA2 it contained had been tweaked to run on newer machines. The bundle includes...
C&C: RA + expansions
C&C: RA2 + expansion
Command and Conquer: Generals + expansion
C& C: Renegade
C&C: Tiberian Sun + expansion
and I think the original C&C.

So far it's been a mixed bag. RA loaded with distorted graphics, and the others wouldn't launch at all until I checked Run as Adminstrator. Renegade's voice acting for Havoc is hilariously or stupidly over the top, depending on my mood. I played some of the tutorial and a couple of Chinese missions in Generals. My first skirmish was against a Hard AI opponent and I played a standstill for half an hour before saving and exiting. It's growing on me: I had to smile when one of my Gatling tanks said "I have many bullets to spare!"

Alas, RA and YR keep crashing. I've tried playing under compatibility modes and so on, but no luck, so I'm considering returning the game. Generals might prove to be fun, but what I really want to do is play RA2.

I think Generals is worth keeping for $20 plus you do get Tiberian Sun which is one of the few newer C&Cs worth playing if the reviews I read are right.

I can't believe that there is no way to run it in an OS emulator. Have you tried DosBox or something more obscure? Or dual boot in another OS?

Picked up Kerbal Space Program since I didn't want to pay more than $18 for it (and I didn't even want to pay that) since its just going to cost more. Also picked up The Guild 2: Renaissance for $2.49 off of GamersGate today.

I've gotten Smite and been enjoying it. I was turned off of LoL becuase of all the things I heard about the community and I'd never played a MOBA before so I decided to try it out and I'm having a lot of fun so far. I can send anyone a beta key if they want one.

I found my copy of AoEIII: Asian Dynasties! I lost the activation code, but I just found one on the internet ... why even bother having those if they're so easy to cheat with? idk.

My favorite civs are Portugal and China.

Man, I'm still missing that disk. I have a level 45 Japanese home city.

Yeah it was lost for the longest time ... I had the Native American one and vanilla, but it's hard to go back to those after you're used to playing with the Asians!

My brother managed to borrow Saints Row 3. It's fun, but only 13 hours and I'm 70% done (read: 90% of everything that even's remotely fun)? I'm glad I didn't buy it last year.

Pre-ordered (apparently they ran out of pre-purchase keys) Guild Wars 2 for $48 on GMG, using a 20% off code I got from their free game offer today (Greed, which I'll just review and trade back in eventually).

I bought Dark Souls: Prepare to Die (pc) about a week ago and so far I enjoy this game quite a bit. Frustrating at times but very rewarding also. Since it's a fairly open game you can avoid some bits till later and the exploration aspect of this game is fun.

I guess the closest game the comes to mind is Severance: Blade of Darkness. The Witcher is similar except for the stronger emphasis on story in The Witcher.

I'm not sure I'll ever finish this game, but for me it's worth buying. This included a purchase of a X-box 360 controller for me. I'm not sure how this plays without one. If it's a physical copy you'll get some extras also.
