Last night I bought Command and Conquer: the First Decade, pretty much on impulse. RA1 won't install on my Vista machine, and RA2/Yuri's Revenge are completely unstable. I can't play a game more than a minute or so without it crashing due to an unhandled exception or something or another. So I spent the $20, hoping that the version of RA2 it contained had been tweaked to run on newer machines. The bundle includes...
C&C: RA + expansions
C&C: RA2 + expansion
Command and Conquer: Generals + expansion
C& C: Renegade
C&C: Tiberian Sun + expansion
and I think the original C&C.
So far it's been a mixed bag. RA loaded with distorted graphics, and the others wouldn't launch at all until I checked Run as Adminstrator. Renegade's voice acting for Havoc is hilariously or stupidly over the top, depending on my mood. I played some of the tutorial and a couple of Chinese missions in Generals. My first skirmish was against a Hard AI opponent and I played a standstill for half an hour before saving and exiting. It's growing on me: I had to smile when one of my Gatling tanks said "I have many bullets to spare!"
Alas, RA and YR keep crashing. I've tried playing under compatibility modes and so on, but no luck, so I'm considering returning the game. Generals might prove to be fun, but what I really want to do is play RA2.
