The Law of the Jungle

I woke up in the jungle, with a severe headache, and having forgotten everything and everyone... with just a carved stone knife in my hand and a strange sense of purpose pounding at my forehead... Slashing and hacking my way through the all but impenetrable mangrove, dodging crocs, jaguars, and toucans, eating rats and the occasional peccary I finally ended up on a hilltop where a view to a new clearing in the forest availed the beginnings of a new city. I found a ball of thread on the ground, and following the lead, there was the ancient symbol that translates to: "Subscribe to thread". That I indeed did.

I'm in too. For blood and glory, may we conquer the heavens, the earth, and the sea. The Aztecs shall rule the world.

SIGNUPS FOR THE GAME ARE NOW OPEN.

All the rules are up. Some sections received minor tweaks since they were first posted - you may want to check the edit dates to be sure you don't miss anything.
I'm still doing some last minute fine tuning before the start, but form this point forward any adjustments will be noted in the thread as well as a change log in one of the reserved posts.

Those of you who have already posted - any attempt to sign up before this post is invalid and will be ignored.
I do however greatly appreciate your early interest and hope you are all planning to sign up now.
My goal is to make the first Tlatoani and Citizen selection and kick off the first real council session on Thursday.

You're going to need it :backstab:

Approaching the city of Tenochtitlan, I see another ancient symbol that means signing up for a game. I'm all in for this one. I don't remember my name, so I search the wisdom of the locals who bless me with the name of:

Cuautlequetzqui

They assign me to the "House of Ceskari" whatever that means. Let the gods of this Civilization be merciful on me.

I join as christos of the house of Bismarc.

I join too!

As Joatzli of the Tehuantepec House

I'm in, I shall be Noctusuma of the house Filotl. With the gods behind us we shall dominate this land.

I join!

I shall be named Ahuitzotl of the House of Chacultepec, glory to Tezcatlipoca Titlacauan and all the gods! (Ahuitzotl likes shiny highly valuable things and thus lives on the gems hill/forest tile)

(MPU gold expenditure 9 on food, 10 on fame)

ooc: Or I could be referencing both. ;)

minor additions to section 13

  • Random starting location assigned if none chosen
  • Characters may choose to enlist in starting warrior as their location (during pregame signup period only)

I think I'm gonna sit this one out. It is a lot more confusing then the last one but I'm sure a lot more will get done this time around. I remin a lurker though and look forward to what ever Yahzuk brings out next. :)

I am IN! As Eazulotl of House Greyzatl

A few questions, Yahzuk:

1) You say that "Characters in two different units within 2 hexes of each other" are considered in the same location. Does this mean "2 steps away" (ie, one could reach the other with 2 movement points), or "2 hexes in between" (ie, it would take 3 moves for one to reach the other).

2) Unless I'm missing something, it seems that these are the only ways to gain Food for your house: Toil on a food-bearing hex (for yourself, not for another Citizen), Purchase food with gold, get tenants to Toil for you, be a Specialist, or be a Tlatoani. Is this correct?

3) Does a Tlatoani gain the base yield from his city every turn, or the net yield of his city? In other words, would the Tlatoani of Tenochtitlan on the Starting Map gain 2 food, or 0 food?

4) For attacks, the Location Strength is defined as the City Strength, but does this apply to attacks that occur in hexes outside the city? The rules imply that this is the case, but I want to make sure.

5) A few Toiling questions:
a) If a peasant resides on an unowned (no Citizen present) hex, is he still forced to Toil as his second action?
b) Can you Toil twice per session? Does this rule change if one of the two is a forced Toil?
c) Does anything prevent multiple characters from Toiling the same square in a given session?

EDIT: More.

6) Do you need two House members to use the Procreate action?

7) Does city-based culture count as "city output" for a Tlatoani, and therefore get added to his Fame every session?

They say in the jungle it gets harder every day. So I choose to reside smack dab in the center of the city. But then, "It's a jungle out there" so who knows what it will be like?

So in summary, Cuautlequetzqui of The House of Ceskari, city center hex

I walk among the jungles of my homeland, looking up at the yellow things above me. The bananas look ready to eat, but man could never eat such monkey fodder. Or could he? I quickly climb the trees and begin to pick bananas. When I have a stock of the things I climb down. Now I must open them, but how? I look up and see the monkeys opening them by their bottom. I try, and manage to do it too. I take a bite, and its actually pretty good. I am Chicona of the House Ahui. I am ready to take Aztlan by storm.

OOC: In case it wasn't obvious, I live in that tile with the bananas.

ooc: I thought we lived in Aztlan :p
