The many questions-not-worth-their-own-thread question thread XV

then deliberately refuse to go with the verdict of my other peers to initiate a hung jury because I disagree with the fairness of the law that was broken - Is that Illegal?

No it not illegal, but the judge would then just except a majority verdict. If you convince a majority of the other jurors of your position, that the defendant is guilty but the law is unfair, you can return a verdict of "not guilty" and the defendant is acquitted, this is called jury nullification. This is an important principle in English law and still occurs occasionally.

Scottish Law actually has three verdicts: "guilty" means 'what he did was worthy of punishment', "not proven" means 'we cannot be sure that he did what he is accused of" and "not guilty" means 'what he did is not worthy of punishment'.

I posted this in the computers forum but then I realized it might be the wrong place. So Ill post it here:
How do you put jewel-case CDs in a box to prevent the cases from getting cracked? Should I use newspaper or something else?

Not guilty doesn't mean that he didn't do it? :crazyeye:

They're pretty tough. Just pack them so that they can't rattle around too much and the box doesn't get crushed.

No they're not. I'm always standing on CD cases when I'm pissed.

You're correct, but I'm refering to something quite different than not proven. Here the defendant is guilty, but the jury returns a not guilty verdict because the law is unfair or they believe it is used in a unfair way, this then can cause the judicary to refuse to try others in the same circumstance for the same offence as the law is seen to be unable to secure a conviction even if the evidence points to the defendant being guilty.

This is an important safegaurd against tyranny so I wouldn't be surprised if the government has sneakily got rid of it, I'm afraid alot of my legal knowledge is hopelessly outdated. ;)

"Not proven" means that the prosecution was unable to prove that he did do it, while "not guilty" means that the defence was able to prove that he didn't do it.

I don't know about you guys, but mine like to crack and shatter a lot. But Im pretty clumsy.

Another question: A lot of the cases are the generic blank cases so I took the CDs out and put them in wallets. However, what the heck do I do with all these empty ones? Can you sell them or something? They're very bulky.

How do I stop thinking about a certain girl I am in love with. It's the same one from my last thread that got locked.

I went to lunch with her today and talked and I am going to exercise with her before class tomorrow. If things dont work out how I want them in the long run I am going to be beyond devastated.

If I am thinking about her 24/7 I don't know how I could handle life if things go wrong. This cant be a healthy obsession. I have obsessed over girls in the past but not to this extent since I found out she loved me also.

Depending on the girl, you don't. I still know the phone number and birthday of a I haven't spoken to since 1984.

But im afraid if this thing doesnt work out I will be so unhappy it will affect my job and school. I have never been in a real relationship before I don't know how I could handle the grief since I am obsessed with her.

Is foam a liquid or a gas?

This is normal, as long as you aren't creeping outside her window, watching her every move, being in love is as normal as normal gets :)

I am probably the most emotional person I know so getting broken up with would take a heavy toll on my sanity especially since I have never been through it.

I want to know how to lessen the impact on my daily life if it happens.. if there is such a way.
