The many questions-not-worth-their-own-thread question thread XV

Thats a funny typo. Did that word mean the same thing back then? I read somewhere it stood for Ship High In Transit but another site said thats not true.

I don't know much of the slang of that era. It was most likely a typo with no further meaning.

I just put the bad word in google news archive to see what would come up. Sometimes if you use the right words you get a lot of OCR errors which makes the headlines funny.

I just got a spam email with the subject "Free offer for %RND." Whats this?

The reason I'm asking is the one at my church gets $50,000 a year. :deal: :dubious:

Depends I guess on how involved they are with the community on days besides the Sabbath. It doesn't make sense to pay a guy that much if he only works 52 Sundays a year for a few hours each day.

But if the guy offers psychological, spiritual and mental support to the community 24/7, it might be an appropriate salary (given he is qualified to give advice on these things).

But I don't see how a youth pastor should be anywhere near that.

Teach a man to fish, dangnabbit.

Looks like a macro that has been typed wrongly.

It probably should be %RND% which probably substitutes a random phrase or word in the subject title.

Heh. When I opened it up it said %RANDOM_LINK. I think this is an incompetent spammer. Wonder what they were trying to sell.

An Owl can fly, so I'm betting on it.

Like an owl or a housecat? Likely the owl, but I'm rooting for the cat. That said, some varieties of owl are pretty small, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that a housecat could kill one.

What the heck is this thing?

Any of a number of scifi shows, movies, or videos. I don't recognize it. But that's what it has to be. Did any of Tom's projects use something like that? It might have only been shown for a moment at a different angle.

A few years later they used some hovercar thing in a video. But that was later on and I dont know where it came from.

Looks like an early prototype for the original XBox. They made it a bit smaller eventually.

Yeah it's an early model of the controller, they only scaled it down 10% IIRC, and they got rid of the white antennae, they clashed with the mean, evil look they were going for.

OK I was looking through my notes. One of them mentions him on "the set of Battlestar Galactica." Could that be it?
