The many questions-not-worth-their-own-thread question thread XV

Are nutritionists to be trusted?

Is it in the same league as social sciences?

You want a dietitian, not a nutritionist. The former is legally protected and requires credentials.

I'm a dog person, I don't know much of anything about cats.

A very friendly, very cold looking cat (no collar) appeared at my window this morning. It wouldn't go away, and when I went outside it was eager to make friends with me.

What should I do? I don't want to bring it in the house because I don't know anything about cats and I don't have a litter box or anything like that. Also, big dog. Big big dog.

I'm thinking it's probably the cat of someone who lives around here since it's so people friendly. But here's what I don't get 1) no collar and 2) it won't go away! It seems to really, really like this house for some reason.

It could be an indoor cat that got out. Indoor cats don't need collars. No idea why it's taking an interest in your house.

Now here's my own question. My place of work uses Open Dns for its dns servers and as a way to block websites that are felt to be inappropriate for work. But there isn't much locked down. But today, there's been some sort of weird odd mix up going on. Earlier today, when I tried to go to gutenberg.org it came up as blocked by Sundance Vacations. Then later I was able to go to gutenberg.org. I don't work for or at Sundance Vacations.

Now the Sundance Vacations has stuff has come back and I can't google. What the heck is going on?

If it's well-groomed, clean, and friendly, that's likely someone's pet cat. A feral cat or one that's been loose for a long time is unlikely to be any of those things.

It's probably trying to get into your place because it's cold and wants to be inside where it's warm. It may also be hungry and know that people generally feed it. It's likely not actually lost - if it does live nearby, it'll find its own way home. (And it's not going to die from a few hours outdoors, unless you're dealing with below-zero temps up there.)

Call your neighbours and ask around seems to be the best course of action.

That is why even indoors, collars are important.

Alright, thanks :) This makes sense. It seems to have wandered off..

to OBLIVION HAAHHAHAHAHAA.....

What would you do if a member of the opposite sex chased you down the street to ask you your name?

Because apparently it's politically incorrect.

Which part, chasing people down to ask them their name or responding with anything besides a swift kick in the nuts?

My dog (on her leash with me while out for a walk) was attacked by a much larger aggressive dog (not on it's leash). I had to take her to the vet after-hours to get a bite wound on her neck cleaned and drained and am now down several hundred dollars. I'm grateful things weren't much worse, however, I am furious at the dipstick with his dog off the leash - he even admitted to me his dog is dangerous and that it could have killed my dog if it wanted to! But since I don't live my life walking around with a camcorder and microphone in my hand, I suppose there's no point in taking any of this to small claims?

I am livid.

No, but you could explain to him what happened and trust that, as a gentleman, he'll say 'oh, I'm really sorry mate, I'll pick that up'

I notice that there are a lot of youtube videos w/ music in them that put a disclaimer in the description that point out the uploader does not own the rights to the music/song.

Does slapping that in the video's description make it ok?

I also notice it is in a lot of home video w/ private individuals covering a song on their own acoustic/electric guitar. Is there a legal issue w/ covering a song yourself and uploading your own performance?

Fair use, I'd say.

I noticed that the videos with the Fair Use legislation piece in ALLCAPS are usually the only ones left standing. Everything else gets taken down by WMG or Youtube on behalf of the MAFIAA.

Interesting thing -- I've had WMG pull down one of my videos ... that was from MCA.

I'm not even sure MCA even exists anymore. So maybe it reverted or something.

The bite on your dog and the vet who treated her's statement should be enough to get the owner of the other dog to pay for your dog's medical bill.

That! The gentleman solution probably won't work, because the guy is a stupid d*** if he lets a dangerous dog out without a leash. Some people are so F'ckn ******** these days:mad:
