Inspired by my roommate...

If you put someone in a comfortable, light sealed box, [i.e. ideal sleeping conditions] how long could they sleep for?

As long as they need to sleep. I have slept 24 hours with a few brakes, and I have slept 5 hours and gotten full rest. It depends on how much I need.

I slept 30 of 32 h (ish) when I was a teen. A distant step-great-great-aunt went to bed for several decades, though it was more a PTSD thing. After decades she just came down to breakfast as if it was normal one day and got on with her life.

I decided to search the web for the world record of the longest sleep, and have only come up with 14 and a half days, set by Randy Gardiner in 1965. But considering only 1 person wrote 2 sentences about him on the entire WWW-- and the second sentence doesn't even make sense to me-- I'm not sure how reliable that information is. In related news, the world's longest hypnotic sleep is 8 continuous days, set by Peter Powers, who also holds the world record as the fastest hypnotist.

So.. if you really wanted to you could probably sleep for 2 weeks, using hypnosis and drugs to help you out.

Not a coma but a PTSD reaction. Woman spends a month escaping revolution/ collapse of nation, liable to die at any moment etc etc. Gets home safe and goes to bed for years. Wakes up to eat food left for her, wash, talk to make necessary arrangements etc, but remains basically in bed for years and sleeps the vast majority of that time.

One day she just comes down to breakfast as if it's the most normal thing in the world.

I've heard several similar accounts, though all of women.

1. There is no expiry date on the clipping,
2. The company still exists, and
3. They still sell the item,
