My friends and I refuse to purchase and pay for smart phone plans partially because of this. We don't really like the notion of crowd sourcing that much of our thought processes. Plus, the world is more fun when it has some mystery and delayed satisfaction going on. Mostly it's the money though. It can't be that we don't want to be that accessible to our wives when we actually manage to go golfing. No, it can't be that at all.

I pay $35 for my 300 minutes, unlimited text and data(sorta) smartphone plan from Virgin Mobile.

I clear unlimited calling and home internet for $65 for both myself and my wife. Just not that interested in carrying a cell phone. We had a cell-phone-only house for about 4 years. <shrugs> I guess it also just doesn't provide additional value to me. I appreciate the tip, though, should we someday re-evaluate! 
Part of it is probably also the fact that I want everyone who has ever been in an accident while driving and talking on the phone locked up like we do to drunk drivers.
