With the Parthenon being a site visited by a lot more people each year than the British museum, do you think that now is a good time for the Parthenon marbles to be returned?

The attempts to bring them back have been going on for many years. Even Cavafy, the famous poet, had written an article about this subject. I think that the British museum should finally give in to the request and return the marbles to their homeland, where more people will have access to them, next to the actual Acropolis.

And you, your thoughts? :)

[13:19] <VRwork> Is it hot AND humid in Greece?
[13:20] <Bill3000> probably
[13:20] <VRwork> Then the marble should stay in the UK

Why make people go where it is hot and humid? :(

its extra funny for me cuz back when the thing was built i was talking to my friend joepopolis and he was like 'hey fifty im gon use AcropolisInc to build that thing im gon build" and I was like "dont do it dude the lifetime guarantee is total BS man the customer service peeps never got back to me when mine got all crumbly" and now im totally laughing cuz just like i said its falling apart and where are the so-called guaranteed free repairs? nowhere thats where LOL joepopolis was such an idiot

Why not return some of the marbles and pay for the rest?

Why not find some local marble and restore the site and make it an amusement park like Bible Land---only It'll Be GREEK-land!

Anyways, isn't there a protocol through the UN for returning 'stolen'/'lost'/'traded' cultural artifacts?

Anyone who has studied history knows that cities there get conquered every so often. chances are, the Museum will be looted within the next few centuries or so.

Money changers in the temple.

I'd be quite happy to see the fixtures that were originally specifically designed to be incorporated in the Athens Acropolis and were part of it for several centuries be re-installed within a restored Acropolis itself.

But the case for moving them from one museum to another is less clear cut.

The Elgin Marbles should remain here, or if they had to go they could go to Turkey.

Apart from the argument that the marbles belong to their homeland, there is a less sentimental one: the Acropolis has far more visitors than the British museum, so by moving them to Greece more people will have access to them :)

Won't they just get moved to another museum? just a one that happens to be in Athens?

This didn't happen recently you know?
@Varwnos how much compensation is the Greek government planning to give in return anyway?

Well you said we were stealing again so you tell me what recent act of theft the British Government has conducted?
