I did some search in this thread but couldn't similar posts in the last half year - dunno if that happened before?
[DoC release 1.15; Scenario 3000 BC on Monarch Level; Roman-French switch]
It's Anno Domini 1250 - after Chinese caravels have been sighted in the Mediterranean ~100 years ago, We the Glorious French Pope have now sent oceanworthy ships across all the oceans to prove that the Earth is round - before these heathen Chinese will do just that.
We the Pope decided to let the tithe be collected for a second time, as We have recently built the Saint Peters' Cathedral in Nîmes and that Church had been rather pricey.
Suddenly, a leader from a continent far, far away appeared in Nîmes, reporting as an avid Catholic Follower wishing to pay the tithe. He was called Huayna Capac and had not been contacted via caravel yet.
Unearthing ancient documents of the Imperial Roman Archives, We the Pope have now confirmed that in fact, Anno Domini 650, a catholic commune had been founded in the Mayan city called Yax Mutal. The true Catholic Faith had then been spread among the independent cities as far south as to the later Incan lands, while the Mayans eventualy collapsed.
Lo and behold - Catholic Yax Mutal in AD 650, more Catholic Cities in South America in 1150 right at the Incan spawn. Wasn't that a bit early? (Great Schism was AD 500, catholicism was not present in Yax Mutal as late as AD 630)
Edit: Is it possible that some AI has used a Great Prophet in their homeland, and the American cities were the most suitable ones for catholicism? In 650, only Vikings could have been the culprits, with nearly no cities around to whom to spread. It is suspicious how quickly Catholicism also spread to Moctezuma who had it as state religion when I met him shortly after Huayna.
(Also, there was no Conqueror event. Possibly related?)
