Turkey is going absolutely nuts in my current game. In a brutal world war, they conquered almost all of Europe, only Sweden, Norway (not Finland; they conquered it), Iberia, Russia, and parts of Italy staying out of their empire. France used to be on my side but capitulated to them after most of their land was conquered. Spain later liberated Frankfurt to them as well. They are pretty scary, really.



Until they inevitably collapsed and left a huge swath of independents in Europe and the middle east. Odd thing is, they collapsed exactly on the turn of a congress, and they won a city in that congress, which didn't go independent. So now Suleiman is left with a single Ethiopian city instead of his mighty empire.

I am Thailand. A continuation of that game:

After Suleiman was banished to Ethiopia, France, Russia, and Sweden scrambled to take over his empire. However, France collapsed not long after.Russia at first got a large part of Europe, but then Sweden attacked them and swept over their Rifleman-defended lands with Tanks, quickly taking over most of Europe and western parts of Russia from them. At least, until the invasion ground to a halt while Sweden's stability plummeted and Russia's ascended from unstable to solid. (it seems surprisingly accurate to what tends to happen when Russia gets invaded in real life... Though the part where they reconquer the lands they lost hasn't happened yet.



Meanwhile, Iran, which had taken over most of the middle-eastern parts of the Ottoman Empire, also collapsed. Sweden and Russia also fought for these independents, with Portugal thrown in the mix. As you can see, Sweden won here too. It's by far the biggest I've ever seen AI Sweden become.

What difficulty and speed is this? I've never seen such epic things in my games but I play on normal speed so I'm wondering if that's the cause.

It's Monarch/Marathon. Marathon allows the AI so much more time to get up to crazy stuff.

Also, I hadn't really paid Portugal much attention since it was the one nation that was neutral in the world war, but I just checked and it's quite impressive. They vassalised China, Tibet, and Peru.



Spain was booted out of Europe by Sweden (it's now basically become Argentina), and between Sweden liberating cities to Portugal and Portugal taking over independent cities, they've come to rule Iberia for themselves.



They control Greece, Istanbul, and parts of the middle east. They also used to have Egypt before it respawned.

And of course, Brazil. Where they're building the Manhattan Project uncomfortably early.



Congo is also doing better than I've ever seen them: they control a large part of Africa, have caught up tech-wise, and are seventh in score. Also, some more Portuguese colonies and Suleiman's new empire.

I think I'm going to give Marathon a shot, though doesn't it take longer to build everything? I'm not really a fan of that.

Go to BtS-Assets-XML-GameInfo-Civ4GameSpeedInfo.xml and change the

  <iTrainPercent>200</iTrainPercent>

to

  <iTrainPercent>100</iTrainPercent>

I think opening it with Notepad should do just fine, of course you should make a backup file of the XML document in case you incidentally change something different too.

You'll probably face gigantic stacks of doom that way, though. Unit production is already relatively fast on Marathon, taking twice as long though the tech takes thrice as long.
