The "OMG! Look what happened in DoC!" Thread

Actually, Carthage where was it's supposed to be. But there's Tacape south of it. They also built the Great Cothon and a palace in it.

They might be after the military academies that are available with GGs.

When did India get the buff on settler production? It used to cost them 200+ :hammers: for each settler but now it only costs ~130:hammers: each. The consequence is by the time Tamils spawns, India already has 4+ cities in the Deccans and ~10 cities in total.

It was after a few of us commented that indian settlers seemed too expensive. If you're going for the uhv or just trying to fill out India, your three starting cities were hardly productive enough to get out the 3-4 settlers needed in a reasonable timeframe just to fill out the middle.

Well, there was never a problem in achieving Indian UHV on Monarch/Normal. In fact, on Emperor/Normal it is also not that hard.

You can try a Tamils game now, it's hardly possible to win UHV.

Perhaps, but all the strategies i've seen for the India UHV involve unhistorical methods to make it easy (founding extra religions, conquering china for pop). Can we really call it historical that way? Also, at least for the 1.12 victories posted by citis and Rackham, they appear to indicate that victory there is very strict in terms of strategy and time, doesn't sound not hard to me.

I hardly play as Tamils so i can't speak for them, but which parts of their uhv are more difficult due to India?

The historical goals are not all historical, and totally historical behavior is not supposed to lead you to victory in most cases. But that's not relevant.

I also posted an India UHV on Emperor/Normal, just before the official release of 1.12, and there's no major change between the two versions.

As for Tamils, “controlling the Deccan” becomes impossible as India already has 4~5 cities there by the time they spawn. India typically has ~10 cities in total, as compared to ~6 in the past.

I get what you're saying, but i also don't think that we need to go super ahistorical in order to win UHV's either, there should be a balance somewhere.

As for India, it's probably ok to raise the settler cost, but maybe the other potential india cities could have more access to food. India's problem is only the northern cities can grow/be productive, everything else is weak in one/both areas.

For Tamils, perhaps they can get a better starting army? Their cities outside of their capital and sri lanka also aren't terribly productive, or we could make AI India more prone to collapse so Tamils have an easier time getting Deccan cities.

Carchemish tends to be founded by the Babylonians, I've seen quite it a bit.

You don't need an ahistorical strategy to win. The first time I won as India I just conquered Pagan and Tamils. I faced the increased settler cost, so the previous cost was ok.

As for Tamils, there is enough time to conquer Deccan. The strategy here is mercenaries, you accumulate wealth for 1st UHV and then spend the accumulated money to rush an army. Indonesia can be conquered in a couple of turns.
