How exactly did you swallow a plastic straw, and how much of it did you swallow?
 
I was chewing on it because I like chewing on plastic straws. Then it broke into several pieces and went down.
 
I'm a walking disaster.
 
I have a strong gag reflex. It just kicks in at the wrong times. Although I've never choked on small objects like a lot of kids seem to do (like those silly American kids who choke on the toys in Kinder Surprises and get them banned down there.)
 
Why doesn't this place appeal anymore?
 
Ok so I started running for two weeks fine - now my knees I think are wrecked - it happend in like one session. I was like WTH! It was random one day I could run fine the next I couldn't run it was so painful.

So my question is. What can I do to keep up the exercise which excludes running and strenous use of legs?
I've gone for brisk 1 hour walks but they are frigging boring only so much metallica one can listen too and I question the atheletic intergrity of just a walk although pscyhlogically it makes me feel better because I know I'm doing something.

Do you have adequate running trainers? You can one minute walk one minute run and also obviously stop as soon as there is any pain because initially all you're doing is damage, the pain of wrecking knees is substantially different to the pain of pushing through the proverbial 'wall'. By the sounds of things you may be pushing to do to much too soon. You need to build up their strength over time which means those 1 hour walks are still doing good. Another option is obviously to cycle, this effectivly reduces the wear and tear or knees whilst still including the movement, it does not however do as much calorie burning as running (if thats what you're after). The other options are the eliptical or the rowing machine as they do similar amounts but this is moving into gym territory and I don't know if you want to use that.

I don't have specific running shoes I wear some jack of all trades trainer. That could be a decent area to look into though. I may try the 1 minute off/on method it sounds reasonable - although I expect I'l need to slow the running down.

It's possible then that you are suffering from shin splints. Buy a good pair of running shoes and go for some light jogs. If it turns out that it was the shoes, then you can increase the intensity of your exercise.
