I did some reading, and apparently you can subtract the cost of commissions from your profit BEFORE calculating capital gains. Is this true?

If so, I am very happy since this means my profit margin skyrockets. (I always assumed my profit was .75x - 14, but with this other method, it's (x - 14) * .75)
