The Realms Beyond - Succession Game Discussions

Reg: Listen. If you really wanted to join the P.F.J., you'd have to really hate the Romans.
Brian: I do!
Reg: Oh, yeah? How much?
Brian: A lot!
Reg: Right. You're in.

In terms of rules:
o how about a locked war with the romans
o why would failure to found judaism require restart? shouldn't it be christianity or more correct brianity?
o map should be inland sea?
o paying tribute to the occurance of the alien spaceship, we should only enable space victory?
will think of some more

locked war is a given, i think. I thnk judaism simply b/c the PFJ is jewish, and Brian gives his speech about being a "red sea pedestrian"
why inland sea?? I've played a few too many of those lately...oasis?? i've never done that.
perhaps we must run Bureaucracy all game from when we discover CS to refelct the nature of the PFJ?? in terms of level, i'm thinking either Prince or Noble, depending on the variants.

edit: can we work in haggling??

ok, judaism makes more sense.
inland sea just popped to my mind because of the mediterrean sea. But oasis is fine, never played that either.
here are some more ideas about rules:
o "since Reg has a bad back" we are never to give in too demands from the AI? especially those to call for arms, unless its against the bloody Romans
o we could try to go after all the stone in the world to supply our bearded women for the many stonings
o since all the other parties are SPLITTERS maybe we can build in something like always have closed borders or so
o no idea about the haggling though

hmm...i like the 'never give in to demands' idea, but rather than the 'bad back' argument, i like the "We will not submit to blackmail. NO BLACKMAIL!!"

re: stones ~ that's fine with me ~ in any war, too, we must target stone-cities first.

Haggling could be as simple as; if an AI turns up offering a trade, can't accept the deal as offered, but must change some aspect of it...?

Could also add some restrictions regarding Great Prophets; e.g. first GP (naturally renamed Brian) must not be used?

Brian's Mum; He's not the messiah, he's a vey naughty boy!

Maybe the variant difficulty could be increased by banning the capture of Roman cities except by culture (after all, the PFJ aren't very effective). That could create some nice tension with the locked War....

Can you culture flip a city you're at war with?

"But apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh-water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?"

Maybe we are not allowed to rsearch these things for ourselves but must wait for a tech trade opportunity, haggling included of course!

I like that rule, MH. Good thing this SG is at an easy level. Pholk, you're being rude. Welcome Ozbenno in and start a thread so we can stop muddying up this hallowed ground.

As for me, I'm heading over to Blockbuster to rent LoB tonight. Research, you know?

P.S.: MH, after seeing your screen name, I now want to do a Hitchhikers' SG, too. :)

WELCOME OZBENNO

was just waiting to see if the interest was there or the game was feasible...look for the thread soon wiseacre

But apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh-water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?

Let's see, that's:

Sanitation: Biology or Refrigeration?
Medicine: Medicine
Education: Education
Wine: Monarchy
Public Order: Fascism (police state)?
Roads: The Wheel
Fresh Water: Masonry (aqueduct)

The Wheel might be too strict. Masonry too.

If my memory serves (which it has to be said it often doesn't), after Reg says this, doesn't someone pipe up "Free Speech".

Reg: "Free Speech!!! Shut Up!"

NO FREE SPEECH Civic for us!

actually he says "brought peace"

A Hitchhikers SG? Starting CIV with the destruction of the Earth. Could be interesting....:)

Not sure how you'd work that one, but perhaps the scenario is you're leading a group of refugees, and you have to win by launching a spaceship, to get revenge on those Vogons. Not sure what other variants could be mixed in, unless it's adding horrible poetry to the game reports :)

Hello folks!!! I have been out of SGs for several months, I and my family moved sudenly to take advantage fo an opertunity offered to me and that was VERy disruptive!!!

i would love to play in a RB succession game again, I first found them by reading every single one of the Civ3c games and was bummed that I missed them!!! I played in a few games back when Civ 4 launched, up until that move.

If there are any teams that need an alternate, or any new teams forming, please let me know! (I know to keep checking back here)

Maybe that idea would work better as a GalCiv II SG, giving the setting of the story...
