The Secret Life of Cats

One of her children was separated too early from her I guess and sometime when it layed next to me or my sis, it would cuddle in our armpits and suck our shirt as if we were its mommy.

Yeah, my Cat Felicia used to do that with my ear.

When I'm watching TV, she'll come up and sit next to me. She might spend a half hour with me, acting all friendly, but, as soon as I turn off the TV, she'll hop down and try to get me to follow her to her food bowl. Basically, she just wanted to get fed and new I wouldn't do it if she just meowed at me, so she pretended to be affectionate so I would feed her (she had already been fed, just so you know, she just wanted more).

One of my two newly arrived cats plays fetch as well, he'll bring the toy back two, three, four times and drop it at your feet (or into your hand) for you to fling it again. They're both pretty non-******** at this point (about 4 months old now), I have high hopes for them.

Though now that I think about it, what if they're not eager to chase it, they're just giving it to you and think you're stupid for flinging it away?

Ive had cats most of my life, but the current one really takes the cake. By far, he's the most intelligent and weirdest one Ive ever had. Heres some of the things he does that make him stand out from the pack:

1. He loves water! Never in my life have I known a cat who likes water. He's fascinated by it. When I run the water in the bathroom sink, he leaps up to the sink and plays with it. He sticks his paws in it and seems to love the feels of the water on his paws, but he also sticks his face in it! :crazyeye:

2. He likes to play 'fetch'. I didnt teach him to play fetch, he sort of taught me. He has a stuffed mouse toy and one day he was playing with it practically on top of me, so I grabbed it and threw it away, so he'd play someplace else. He immediately went and got it, brought it back, and dropped it in front of me. Ever since, fetch is his favorite game, and he meows at me when I dont throw the damned mouse.

3. He's fascinated and obsessed with the kitchen ceiling fan, to the point that alot of times I dont even turn it on. When its on he gets on the kitchen table and stands on his hindlegs, meowing at it and waving his paws around.

4. He's also extremely interested in lightbulbs. He's learned by now that lightbulbs are hot and can burn your nose if youre too curious, but he still will spend alot of time staring at them in fascination.

He's definitely an odd little bugger, but I think he might be a cat Einstein. Compared to him, my previous cats were all retards.

Anybody else seen these types of behaviours in cats?
heh - that's some funny stuff there Bozo. i've also been around the fiends (a Jersey nickname that many wouldn't understand) since i was a kid.

i've seen one cat in particular who likes water. it was a roommate's cat and he did something similar to what your cat does; ie he'd stick his head under the faucet and wait for the drip. we'd even intentionally leave the faucet on and drizzling just to watch the little dude flick away. it's pretty funny to watch.

the same former roommate has another cat who would fetch little twigs out of the back yard and stack them all next to the sliding glass door in the back yard. after a season of doing this, you could imagine that there's a pretty large pile of kindling!

now - i had a cat when i was in high school who once vicked a sandwhich from me and actually ate half of it - vegetables, bread, and all! no kidding! it wasn't much of a surprise really as this same cat would eat all kinds of garbage like gummy bears, chocolate, and other vegatables. he also had a habit of jumping up onto the screen of the front door whenever he wanted in or wanted out. there were a few times i remember where he scared the shiz-nik out of visitors.

this same little fiend used to follow me to school every morning when i'd walk. he'd follow me, step for step, for nearly a 1/2 mile and i'd have to shoo him back b/c he'd have kept following me right into homeroom had i let him!

my current cat isn't as animated as this little guy was. however, he's quite the hunter. it was only a few weeks ago that i saw him trotting across my front lawn w/ a dead rabbit in tow. he's made a grave yard of sorts out of my front stoop. rabbits, birds, mice, moles, chipmunks. you name it and he kills it. but at a price - as he's sustained several wounds over the yrs like abcsesses and dislocated knee caps. he just keeps bouncing back though. it's amazing how resilient some animals are.

one last thing about my current cat. he has this thing where he actually likes to ride in cars. no joke! i guess i used to take him for rides when he was younger and he seemed to get over that freakishness that most cats have w/ getting in a car (ie the 'you're going to the vet!' syndrome). if the wife or i leave the windows to our cars open, he'll hop right and take a nap! no kidding! it wasn't but a few weeks ago that i found him in my back seat when i was enroute to work! hysterical! i had to turn around and take him back!

for all of my fiend stories, i've got 2 for everyone of those wrt my dog.

Well I think we're all agreed: Cats are weird, like us. Thats why we love em. Cat people are at least as weird as their cats;)

one cat i had once used to crawl along upside down the bottom of my sofa, using its paws, quite regularly. crazy

I forgot my cat once brought me a rabbit's foot. Nothing else, just the foot of a rabbit. She left it on my front door-step.

Did you keep it?

It is indeed adorable when they want to share their food with you. I remember when Blackie came romping in from outside, walked right up to me and dropped a dead shrew at my feet whilst I was sitting in the chair. She then jumped right up on my, purring like crazy, and commenced to lick my entire face. I felt so loved. :)

That's quite a cat there, I wish I owned it. Sounds smart.

I always had you down as a cat person Bozo. Although I thought you'd have more than just one. An unfeasibly large number of cats, 200 maybe.

Your cat sounds clever though. Much clever that those cats on "World's Weirdest Pets"* who jump at birds only to wipe themselves out on the window. Although I did see one cat watching motorracing on TV which kept trying to catch the cars coming out of the screen. Clever or dumb, dunno

*I NEVER watched that show.
