The size of your gun.

I have a friend who carries a concealed weapon w/ him almost everywhere he goes. He likes pistols that are bigger than 9mm, because I wants to have plenty of stopping power, and he doesn't feel like he's well-enough equipped w/ fewer than 15 rounds in the gun... A .45 Glock is his weapon of choice.

But the thing is, guns that big are bulky, and he's gotta wear freakishly baggy clothes to pull it off.

If I were to carry a concealed weapon, I'd choose a smaller caliber pistol w/ less ammo. Maybe a .32 semi w/ 6 or 7 rds. I figure that the odds I'm going to get into trouble are minimal anyway, so why carry a bulkier package than necessary? Yes the Glock is flexible, but the bulkiness of it makes carrying it everywhere kind of a chore, IMHO.

What would you look for in a concealable weapon? Convenience or flexibility?

Convenience, although I would never carry one. My self-defense weapon should fit with what I do, not vice versa.

although I find it silly to carry concealed weapons, nobody except criminals would do so.

Stopping power is always important. Having said that, the Browning Hi Power is a nice piece.

If I carried a gun everywhere I went, I would have used it by now and would be posting this from prison, assuming they took me alive. That being said, my hands and feet have served me well enough in my splendid years on earth.

I prefer to accesorize w/ an AK-47 and a kevlar vest. But only when the event is "casual dress."

For formal events, I like a classic Colt .45 pearl-handled revolver and a sash. Call me retro.

Anyway, that's a good question. It depends on how important you hold a weapon's stopping power to be. Your standard 9mm isn't much smaller than your average seven-round .45. But, it has more rounds, at the expense of caliber.

If I were to carry a handgun on my person, I'd probably go with a small one. Maybe a snub-nosed .38. If I kept one in my car, which is probably what I would do, I'd have a Colt .45. Rather, I'd have a generic one, because a real Colt .45 is damn expensive.

But if I bought just one handgun, it would have to be a silver .357 Magnum revolver. It's a beautiful weapon.

I like the feel of the Glock, 9mm or bigger -- a fine car weapon, if I owned one.

(But I would worry about someone stealing it, and then it being used in some henious crime.)

Being from the UK, I live in a sane society, where guns are the province of those who use them to defend us.

I see no use in having a gun, unless it is connected to a 52 ton German battle tank.
