The Speech that won the election

I'm not contre :p

When you attempt a comeback that is at best, petulant, you lose what dignity you had left.

He still had dignity left after the tape throwing thing?

Surely a boy with a tranny as an avatar can give others lessons in dignity.

Where are your buddies?

Speaking of having any dignity left, quoted for posterity.

Surely a boy with a tranny as an avatar can give others lessons in dignity.

Say again? I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt for now, and not assume that's an absolutely despicable thing to say.

"tranny"

In my part of the world, this is known as a "tranny":

Short for transtainer, of course.

Hey, I'm a progressive and just as much a supporter of the president as the next guy, but I am gonna tell you right now, if the president keeps basing his campaign on what is wrong with Mitt Romney, he is going to lose. People want to hear what he has to offer for the next four years, not this crap.

QFT. Unlike last time, when people didn't really care what his policies or (non-existent) credentials were and just voted for him because he was black, this time Obama actually has to come up with something of substance. If he doesn't give people a reason to vote for him, they won't. They will either vote for Romney or a third party or not vote at all.

The speech and the joke was good and he's a great speaker, but he overdid the stuttering. I'm also wondering if he's not risking coming off more as a comedian than a president.

He sure stutters a lot.
Given that his opponent likes to start every statement with "I - I - I ...", I wouldn't worry too much about that. Seriously, Romney stutters a lot more and in a more obnoxious way. I never would've brought that up, because it doesn't really matter, but if you want to play that game ...

Do you feel he's not presidential enough?

Do you feel he's not presidential enough?
I don't believe 'appearing presidential' is important as long as he wins the election, but I believe there's a risk in stepping into a comedian role too well and far in the eyes of elderly voters.

edit: looking at it again, it might be me not being used to this in European politics. Although I've never seen or heard Obama speaking or acting in this way before....

Our presidents have long had a tradition in using humor to communicate. Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush Sr, Reagan especially.... dunno about the ones before him but I know FDR was big on being funny.

Why do you feel elderly voters would think he's clowning too much to be presidential (even as he is and has been the president himself)?

Hah, hilarious.

I'll miss you Obama. I really will, and I want you to win.

But you won't. The fix is in. Perhaps not getting brutalized in the first debate would've helped, no?

EDIT: The spaced-out blonde who keeps twisting her hair is making it hard to take this seriously.

Could any of those mentioned, a part from Reagan perhaps, been a successful stand-up comedian?

From my work and experience with the elderly, being professional trumps being funny. Don't you see any risk in becoming a presidential Eddie Murphy?
