The Sumerian Empire

1780 A.D.
Military Advisor- My King, the Romans are up to something. After their bombing run on Akshak, all Roman forces retreated from our territory.
King Gudea- Are they organizing for a new offensive?
Military Advisor- I would think so, given the message we received from our spy recently. He said there has been some exitement among the top leaders of the Roman military, but he did not have any further info. We have not heard from him since.
King Gudea- Do you think they have developed some new kind of weapon?
Military Advisor- That is certainly possible, with their military higher-ups being excited about the situation. I will assign some of our newly-trained infantry to our border garrisons. Bortras, which is where most of their attacks have been focused, will get several extra infantry companies.

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- The Egyptians have begun a second assault on Lelmra. They were not deterred by all their losses, in the previous attack.
s758-fight_at_lelmra.png

Military Advisor- Somehow the Egyptians have broken thru the defenses!
s761-lelmra_captured-r.png

King Gudea- Wasn't that a walled city on a hill, and with a regiment-sized garrison?
Military Advisor- Yes, and they also had to cross a river while under heavy fire. Cleopatra must have wanted to strike back at us, at any cost. She just sent 26 machinegun companies to their deaths and lost almost a quarter of her entire army.
King Gudea- Do we have enough resources that can be devoted to retaking the city?
Military Advisor- We just finished forming the 6th Armored Division and it was ready to head down to Arabia.
s770-order_of_6th_Arm.png

Military Advisor- It was going down to replace the 6th Infantry Division, which has taken heavy casualties. But, it will take a slight detour and liberate Lelmra.
King Gudea- Very good. Send them in immediately!

* * * * * *

The 6th Armored Division has arrived to liberate the enemy-controlled city of Lelmra. The infantry & artillery quickly take position on a nearby mountain and begin to shell the occupying force.
s771-arty_att_on_lelmra-r.png

As the artillery barrage ended, the three battalions of tanks headed in and easily destroyed the Egyptian occupiers.
s777-liberate_lelmra.png

Military Advisor- Sir, we have retaken the city, only to find a third of the population had literally been worked to death, fixing the walls of the city.
King Gudea- What about the rest of the Egyptian force?
Military Advisor- They have been routed, Commander.

* * * * * *

To the south of Lelmra, Egyptian tanks have attacked Filve and Toprawa, with the infantry at Filve turning away 2 tank squadrons. At Toprawa an independant tank battalion takes on an Egyptian tank army and loses two squadrons in the skirmish. The Egyptian army is severly damaged, but is able to retreat to safety.

1782 to 1784 A.D.
It had been very quiet for the few days since Lelmra had been freed and with very few sightings of any Roman military. King Gudea was headed towards the daily meeting with his advisors, when he noticed one of them running towards him with a very ashen face.
Military Advisor- My King, I have some very bad news! Not only has Rome perfected their tank design, but they are using it against us in large numbers. They have also spread their forces out, instead of attacking just Bortras.
King Gudea- This may be what our spy heard rumors about.

Military Advisor- This map shows the Romans avenue of approach and which cities they attacked.
roman_incursions-r.png

Military Advisor- The "A" on the map is Corsin, which is where Bomber Command 1 is located. We have repeatedly beat back their attacks at Bortras, with the 22 bomber squadrons located here. The Romans sent 15 bomber squadrons against the city and we shot down three of them. It is definately a goal of theirs to take this city out.

Military Advisor- The "B" on the map is Bortras. Our first encounter with the Roman tank leaves the fortress over Bortras in their hands.
att_on_bortras_fortress-r.png

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- Vinsoth is the "C" on the map and it was assaulted by 6 Roman tank squadrons.
att_on_vinsoth-r.png

Military Advisor- The battalion of infantry garrisoned there was able to turn away 2 tank squadrons, but ultimately the city defenses fell. Following closely behind the tanks was a horde of Roman infantry.
s788-vinsoth_razed.png

King Gudea- What! They burned our city to the ground? So, we now have Sumerian citizens in captivity?
Military Advisor- No, the Romans lined up the population and mowed them down. Out of almost 300,000 people, there were no survivors.
King Gudea- Those Roman @!#$%*@!

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- Kothlis is where the "D" is on the map. The battalion of infantry there had to defend against 7 tank squadrons.
King Gudea- Don't tell me we lost a second city to them.
Military Advisor- Wish I could, but we didn't lose just a city. There were almost a million Sumerians living there and they are now all gone.
s801-kothlis_razed.png

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- The "E" on the map is the city of Norulac and since it was not a border city there were only 2 infantry companies defending.
att_on_norulac.png

Military Advisor- The infantry garrison fell quickly to the onslaught and another 600,000 people were murdered!
s803-norulac_razed.png

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- The next letter on the map (F) is Ambria. The garrison only had 2 infantry companies and both were just short of being destroyed when that portion of the Roman attack stalled. Svivren (G) was the last city to be attacked. Even though the city was threatened by 2 Roman tank armies, the garrison held onto the city.

The foreign advisor entered the room-
Foreign Advisor- Excuse me, my King, for I know the situation is dire.
King Gudea- What is it?
Foreign Advisor- We have received a message from Caesar.
King Gudea- We are not going to give in, after what he did to our people!
Foreign Advisor- He is not requesting an audience. It looks more like a threat.
Caesar_taunt.png

The King of Sumeria was unusually calm and even had a slight smile on his face.
King Gudea- He is trying to get me flustered, so that I'll make a mistake. At a previous time that may have worked, but it won't this time. He may have won these few battles; he will not win the war! Prepare to push back the Roman offensive.
Military Advisor- Yes, sir!

Nice. This might get interesting if those romans/egyptians/arabs can keep up with their tank production ;)

I demand vengance! I'm going down to the Sumerian recruitment office and sign up right now.

Great update as usuall!

1784 A.D.
A fierce war is being waged between Sumeria & Rome, with both superpowers determined to exterminate the other. At the moment, the Roman empire has seized the initiative with a major incursion into Sumerian territory. The offensive has resulted in three large cities being razed to the ground and almost two million Sumerian citizens dead.

Military Advisor- Commander, I would like to resign my post. Our defenses should have been set up better and I take full responsibility for these massive civilian losses.
King Gudea- No, I refuse. There is no one that could bring to the table the experiance that you have. We have been thru too many wars together and I have no wish to replace you. We must work together and get this nation ready to fight back.
Military Advisor- I appreciate your confidence in me.
King Gudea- Now, how are we going to stop this onslaught?

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- With the 1st, 3rd and 4th Army Groups fully committed to Arabia, there is very little that I could scrounge up.
King Gudea- What do we have to work with?
Military Advisor- The 6th Armored Division is available, but 1 battalion is down for repairs. There is a regiment of tanks and a regiment of infantry, both waiting to be placed into future divisions. Also, there is 1 division of cavalry left from the 2nd Army Group.
King Gudea- That is my fault. If I hadn't ordered you to start disbanding our obselete units, we would have 4 divisions of cavalry to work with.
Military Advisor- We also have the 28 artillery batteries and 22 bomber squadrons, which have been holding off the Romans up untill now. The 6th Armored Div. will take out the two Roman armies at Svivren and the bombers will work on the army outside of Ambria.
s810_s813-r.png

Military Advisor- The regiment of tanks and cavalry will attack where they can, then spread out to garrison the six threatened cities.
King Gudea- Make sure Corsin is bolstered with extra infantry. We cannot lose our bombers!

1785 A.D.
Military Advisor- Sir, we have retaken Gigthis from the Arabs. The remaining population was then gathered together with their belongings and brought back to Tacape.
King Gudea- Hopefully, we can return them all to their homes, sometime in the near future.
Military Advisor- That won't be possible. The city was burned down, so as not to be of any use to the enemy.
King Gudea- That's a good idea. We certainly don't need to be giving them any help.

1786 A.D.

Military Advisor- The Arabs continue to batter our blockade, near the ruins of Fustat. Their latest attack, directed by a Great Military Leader, destroyed an entire infantry regiment(8 units) and once again captured the northern fortress.
s816-arabs_take_fortress-r.png

Military Advisor- The Arab forces were driven from the fortress and the Great Leader fell during the battle, but not before a few of their tank squadrons broke thru and headed west. The 4th Army Group is in serious condition, with less than 1 division remaining.

1788 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- My King, we have a new foe to contend with.
byz_egypt_alliance.png

Military Advisor- Byzantine forces immediately advanced on Tacape and surrounded the town. Several Byzantine armies moved in on both sides of the town. The defenses will not hold very long against these numbers and we have no transports in the area to allow some to escape. Even if we did, our rescue efforts would be hindered by the fact that Roman bombers destroyed the town harbor, not long after the Byzantines showed up.

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- Sir, all the Roman forces have formed up against 3 cities, with the most serious threat against Corsin. Here are the forces arrayed against us-
Averum- 8 machinegun companies & 2 infantry companies
Ambria- Tank army, 8 infantry companies & 7 machinegun companies
Corsin- 20 machinegun companies & 11 infantry companies

Military Advisor- The artillery will be sent to Ambria and Corsin will be protected by the 6th Armored Division and all the bombers stationed there.
s825-defense_of_ambria--r.png

Military Advisor- Our efforts took out 35 Roman military units, including the tank army! After all that, we have many hurt and damaged units.
King Gudea- Make sure all units are repaired or healed, before they head back into the grinder.
Military Advisor- I agree. With being at war with 5 nations, we need to make the most out of our armed forces.

1790 A.D.
Military Advisor- My King, Tacape was attacked simultaneously by the Byzantines, Arabs and Roman bombers. The town has been captured by Byzantine forces.

s837-electronics.png

King Gudea- What's next?
Science Advisor- I have an idea about aircraft that can take off vertically and can also hover in the air.
King Gudea- Sounds good! Your funding will continue.

1792 A.D.
Military Advisor- Commander, just when we thought the Romans had been turned away, they have come again against Bortras.
assault_on_bortras-r.png

Military Advisor- A total of 15 Roman tank squadrons assaulted Bortras and destroyed an entire regiment of infantry(8 units). The 3 flak batteries were even pointed downhill at the approaching tanks, but they did little to stop the advance. For some reason they decided to capture the city, instead of razing it. After the Romans took control of the city, they caught 2 fighter squadrons on the ground there and destroyed them. In recent battles(during the interturn) we have lost to our enemies a total of 26 military units.
King Gudea- We will not win at that pace; that is too many losses. We may need to start thinking about gearing the entire nation's production capacity towards total war.

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- I am sending the 6th Armored Division to liberate Bortras. Our bombers will take out all the Roman units, that are outside of the city.
King Gudea- Very good. We do not want to drop bombs on our own people!
s856-bomber_go_in-r.png

Military Advisor- The city is back in our hands!! The 6th Armored Division is going to be deisignated as an independant division and will be used to roam back and forth on our borders. The rescued citizens of Lelmra and Bortras have nicknamed the 6th Arm. as the 'liberators'. Keeping them close to home for protection will definately raise morale.
Domestic Advisor- Not that we really need that. Most of our cities are celebrating "We love the King" days, on a regular basis. Morale and nationalism are at an all-time high.

1793 A.D.
Military Advisor- My King, here is a map showing the progress of the 1st & 3rd Army Groups.
arab_west_assault.png

King Gudea- I see we are approaching two of Abu's largest cities.
Military Advisor- Yes, our forces are moving into position on these two cities and beyond that is the rubble of Fustat. I don't know if we will make it to the 4th Army Group in time. The 4th is in a desperate situation, at a quarter of it's original strength.
King Gudea- Inform the 1st & 3rd Army Groups to be ready for an Arab breakout.

It just keeps coming! Scary to think that Sumeria is just a nation away from being at war with everyone. Awsome Update!
