The Sword of Islam: RFC Medieval Middle East

Has anyone used Absolutism or even Religious Freedom? Some of these late civics seem kinda pointless unless you're playing for conquest or domination.

Also can someone explain to me the requirements for the Commander of the Faithful title? I can't get the title if I vassalize the holder and for some strange reason (unless its supposed to happen), the holder doesn't even need to hold on to Baghdad .
All Safavid had to do was suicide attack Baghdad, then use up the last remaining call for jihad (the game was going to end in less than 100 turns). It didn't matter that in the next turn I, the Ottomans, took Baghdad. At the moment, I'm not sure if the Commander of the Faithful is overpowered or broken. Or it could simply be that I just suck

Hey, just a quick note. Sorry for lack of updates. I've got some trouble atm, if it doesn't get worse I should be able to get back to CIV4 in about 2 weeks.

No Problem! Real life issues naturally always come first :)
So just take your time, and as always we'll be waiting here for you to implement more great changes to the mod in the future!
(just hopefully not TOO far in the future)

Ya I have to agree with you, I have NEVER used either Absolutism or Religious Freedom in ANY of my games. As you said, they come way to far in the game to be counted as worthy options.

To gain the Commander of the Faithful title (which really should be on the manual, hint hint @ Edead), you must control Bagdad, and the previous controller of the title must have collapsed. OR you can vassalize the holder of the "Commander of the Faithful" and you will gain that trait, without actually controlling Bagdad.
Hope this helps! :goodjob:

Can anyone confirm that from actual gameplay? It's never worked that way from me that way. Vassalizing the Byzantines has also never given me the Roman Emperor title.

This ONLY works with the Commander of the Faithful title. You can check it up in the civilopedia. And I would STRONGLY encourage Edead to add title information to the .pdf file.

Can somebody PLEASE tell me where the 4th coffee is for Yemen?

NVM: one of my windmills obscured it in Yemen. I should have won 10 turns ago. lol

Started a PoA game today where the Rum city Adiyaman flipped to me and got renamed Perre. Curious to see where that name comes from, I found out in wikipedia instead that Adiyaman means "(place) whose name is tough" in Turkish and that the city officially got that name only in 1926 because the Turkish population wasn't able to pronounce the proper Arabian name "Hisn-i Mansur" (forgive me my dotted i's by the way).

Funny story, but doesn't that actually mean that Adiyaman is an unhistorical name here? I can see why it's in instead (having a proper Turkish name is more flavourful), but still.

lol, the whole anatolian city name map is like that

i will just say the name for the antioch civ should be pordonnium not perre (perre = ancient greek)

Very minor things:

-Currently CR3 gives you +10% against gunpowder units, could this be changed into +10% against Melee. That would be more logical.
-Horse Archers don't inflict flanking damage.

-Yemen has gotten quite far:lol:

Yemeni Urganj is SoI's Persian Seoul

hey, i just wanted to report that the UHV text of yemen in the victory screen is broken.

This is a great mod, but this threaad has been dead for a while, are you going to implement a new feature? , like the silk road.

PS: when i was playing with gujarat the evente greateul aristocrats poped up, but instead the text it said TEXT_KEY_etc..

Finally AP is here! Knowing ur thirst for sophistication I was really puzzled with you not checking this awesome mod! :)

Yemen just sents bands of exploring troops... I can almost bet Urganj was Barbarian...

Too bad my sophistication can't help me in the PoA OB criterion. (I DOW'd on KoJ just too many times and the Byzantines/Georgians hate me now):(

Have you converted to Sunni Islam yet? It hurt, but that did it. Never managed to get the OB without it either.

It's too late--as I said, by the time I did so, the Abbasids and Seljuks have collapsed. And I had the misfortune of not declaring war on Cicilia before they vassalized to the Byzantines.

I'm going to try the following: try to OB with Byzantines/Cicilia and KoJ, then convert to Islam (within the first 10 moves), and try to OB with other civs after making peace with the Abbasids. It's a "by" criterion which means that as long as I hit 6 before 1270, it'll work, right?

I read up how Bohemond died, a broken man after being defeated by the Byzantine Emperor. So true...

In current SVN version (and future patch) switching religion (between Christianity and Islam at least) causes widespread revolts and unit betrayal, so that kind of cheating will be more difficult :p

@comrade francis
The reports of the mod's death are greatly exaggerated ;) Finally I'm done with most work, will try to put a new patch this weekend. While I don't intend to work on completely new features at this point, the SVN version includes SuperSpies & assassins.

But that's not fair and it's not cheating. For the Crusaders, to switch religion (at least from Christianity to Islam) is probably more stable since the population was Islamic partly to start with, and had Catholicism forced on them.
Ditto for the former Byzantine Anatolian cities to force conversion to Islam.
You do realize that this will basically force people to switch religions during the first move after dealing with the civs they have contact with. E.g. for Bohemond, the above technique still works since they will have no cities (i.e. no revolts) if you don't capture Antioch.
If anything, any city that has the new religion you're switching to should be celebrating "We love the Monarch/Theocrat!" Day. :D

Just registered to say that glad to see you're back, embryodead. I've just discovered the mod and am enjoying it alot. Great job! :goodjob: Can't wait for the next version.

PS. I noticed that Yemen UHV text in victory screen is empty. Is this a bug?
