The Tea Party convention at Gaylord hall

Its not about stupidity or intelligence....its about extremism.

I am quite conservative in my beliefs, but I am no where near the far right end of the horseshoe...;)

You aren't out doing sieg-heils in front of a synagogue, no, but you are indeed far-right MB. You may appear moderate because your country is one of the most right-wing on Earth, but you are far-right. I don't know of you ever being racist, so on that topic you aren't, but on every other issue you are.

I must resist that blond temptress. She's conservative, and yet she comes dangerously close to making sense at times...
She calls herself a "progressive Republican" so I wouldn't be too sure about the conservative part, at least when compared with the typical Republican who would probably label her a RINO. From the comments she made in the video, she is probably more a moderate than anything else.

And I agree with Meghan McCain that the movement is largely "innate racism". I seriously doubt they would have reacted nearly as strongly if Gore or Kerry had won.

I consider myself a typical republican and I think shes right. Tancredos comments were stupid.

Professor Richard Dawkins is amusing on the links between intelligence and beliefs. Vastly more members of Mensa and top university staffs are atheists than not.

Why do US right-wingers complain of universities being hotbeds of corrupting leftie influence? Because that's where the intellectuals are, and everyone knows (especially Hollywood) that intellectuals are wrong.
It's almost a fact of existence that if you apply intelligence to something then you're inhuman and ultimately unsuccessful. There's an unspoken trend of anti-intellectualism to which all major Hollywood blockbusters must now appeal, and which politicians are also discovering.

It's rather annoying to see science dismissed as inhuman given that the main difference between us and other animals is our technology.

Which has nothing to do with the statement I made.

He had quite the far left voting record while he was in congress.

His health care proposals would be more 'left' if he thought he had a chance in hell of passing a further 'left' plan.

And yet as a liberal myself, I would never consider Obama to be left of center. I didn't when he was campaigning, and nothing he's done since has been 'left'. He was moderate as a Senator, as a candidate, and now as president. And the problem is that while liberal solutions to problems are required, they won't come from Obama. No one has seriously proposed a 'left' health care reform, for example. And the US desperately needs one if the economy is to survive for the long term.

She has a harder time putting together a cogent thought than Sarah Palin. Funnily enough, I don't see liberals accosting her though. Nor do I see left making fun of Obama's Corpse-men comments.

Meghan McCain sounds a lot more cogent than Sarah Palin does to me - certainly a lot smarter. She also wasn't running for Vice President with a 72-year-old running mate.

She sounds like a stereotypical bimbo in a popcorn flick staying stereotypical things that come out of the mouths of uneducated teenagers. All she needs to do is have a shout out and she'll be right on par with Palin.

I bet you don't watch women's daytime TV very much.

The Tea Party is the greatest thing to happen to the Democratic Party since FDR, JFK or LBJ. (I love acronym Presidents)

If a Tea Party candidate is up for election in the primaries I will be switching parties to vote for them. The teabaggers are going to destroy the Republicans, it might come this year, or it might come a few years from now but its going to happen and its going to be awesome.

... a good portion of the users here sound more cogent then Sarah Palin and definitely sound smarter.

I think that is what makes the defense of her so hilarious. McCain, or whoever actually made the decision, obviously made a huge mistake picking Palin to be his running mate. She has no chance in the Republican Party anymore.

But now, all the birthers and tea partyers have identifed and bonded with her. To them, it is more proof that literally anybody can be governor, or even the president. That you don't have to be one of those "elites" to do the job. That is, as long as you don't face any actual problems while in office. Then, things typically don't turn out so well...

Agreed, every populist based party eventually crashes. Of course, the Tea Party is more AstroTurf then grassroots, but it can definitely get out of control.

Is this going to be similar to how Barack Obama destroyed the Democratic party?

Since when was Meghan McCain a Conservative? She was a registered Independent instead of a Republican until her father was in the lead for the Republican nomination, and voted for John Kerry in the 2004 election. She describes herself as liberal on social issues, and says she does not understand economics well enough to really have a position on fiscal issues. She is pro-life and for a strong national defense, but also a big supporter of gay rights/marriage, stem cell research, non-abstinence-only sex ed, and fighting global warming. Everything I've read on her would place her a little to the left of the Blue Dog Democrats. She is a Moderate, definitely not a Conservative.

Personally I think we really should have tests on literacy, numeracy, history, and civics before allowing people to vote, or more accurately before granting anyone citizenship. There is of course a duty to provide free education in these areas to anyone of any age from any background who wishes to become a citizen.

have you guys already talked about how Sarah Palin wrote cheat notes on her hand??

watch last night's Daily Show! it's freaking hilarious! they caught on camera the notes on her hand, and then later they show her peaking at it..

oh, it's just so sad because the stuff she wrote there is so stupid and obvious. she is a true moron.

I wouldn't call her a moron just because she needs a reminder now and then (though it was an odd place to put it, why not on some paper at the podium er something?), I'd call her a moron because she thinks Saddam Hussein caused 9/11.

I know right. She should have just used a teleprompter and had her WHOLE speech right there to read. Then she could have avoided this embarrassment.
