The relative power of the USA will decline as other countries grow faster but the US is not going to fall to bits like the USSR in the next century

like the USSR the Us is massing massive amount of Debt, but i don't think the USA will brake up. i believe this is the last century of the Usa

Britain broke up a long time ago when Éire left

The UK isn't about to break up. Seperatism really isn't as widespread as people make out. It's conceivable that at some point in the midterm future Northern Island may join the Republic of Ireland, but I don't think Wales and/or Scotland will seccede from the UK in our life time. The Welsh and Scots already have a fair amount of power decentralised to their regional governments, and I think it's only a minority who would advocate full seperation from England, although many do support further decentralisation of powers. It's possible that England will eventually gain its own Parliament seperate to Westminster, as the only constituent country not to have a regional government.

These are all examples of peaceful and limitted decentralisation, not imminent collapse.

But I agree, although it is unlikely, the UK is probably more likely to break up then the US is.

Please brush up on your history. The USSR intervened in/invaded Afghanistan at the request of the Afghan muhajideen, the communist regime in power at the time. While this regime was not universally popular, it obviously did have some support, and the USSR took the side of this regime in their invasion. It was not "just an attempt at colonisation", though its justifiability is up for discussion.

The DRA's government asked for Soviet aid, not the mujahideen. The mujahideen were the guerrilla opposition group(s), not the party in power. The party in power was the PDPA (People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan).

Right, my bad. Regardless, the point about the ruling party in question requesting Soviet aid still stands.

This is false. The PDPA was the socialist government in power.

The more pressing issue was that tribal warlords were whipping up Islamist support against the atheist communists (even though the PDPA was merely secular), which resulted in huge parts of the Afghan army deserting to them. This threatened the stability of the government, since Afghans love nothing if not overthrowing the party in power for the sake of it, the PDPA said "oh please Allah help us, Brezhnev!" and old Leonichka "sent in the Marines," so to speak.
