If you judge film solely on the basis of plot: read the books. If you judge film on the basis of visuals: it doesn't matter.

Those two aren't exactly the only options. Although I am definitely leaning in the book direction.

(...) Although the Harry potter films. (...)

I did not liked the main role actor - he reminded me of someone who I dislike (to put it mildly ;)

Seriously, I've told you before. I'm certain.

I'm 60.

There. I've told you again now.

I honestly don't remember it, but I could be mistaken. :dunno:

Memory is fickle.

My school district was still teaching people to type on typewriters alongside monochrome Apple IIe's in 1993. Given that typing lessons would probably start at that point in late grade school, I'd say it's entirely possible for somebody in their late 20s to have learned on a typewriter. They hung around well into the 2000s for some government forms and they're still somewhat handy for bureaucratic work that uses carbon copy forms to capture original signature duplicates.

I've even learned it on a mechanical typewriter.
But well...mainly because we had one, and it wasn't really worth to buy another one, just for learning.

Should I read or watch Game of Thrones/Song of Fire and Ice first? Watching Goblet of Fire as a kid sure took the punch out of what seems now to be an amazing book. Although the Harry potter films were admittedly awful.

Actually, I think doing either one first spoils the other.

I watched the entire series, and then read all the books.

Honestly, either way works.

The show is very close to the books, and by that I mean it is basically the books. The only thing you really lose out on is extra detail here and there (which explains some things that go unexplained in the show) as well as some more characters.

You'll only get halfway through book three when you finish the show though, so you'll have to pick up the books in some form or another eventually.

Can you skip the games in NBA 2K14 while in MyGM mode, much along the skip function in NHL's dynasty mode? I'm not interested in playing the actual games... just the management side of things.

Powermonger. :p

Eh, when I do the management side of things I don't like playing each individual game. The only games that I can do slow, long term progress in are multiplayer games like Wurm Online, League of Legends, etc. Sitting by myself in the corner of the room makes me want to see some faster results and skipping the games does that. Not only that, but I rarely lose when I play the game myself so skipping each game does end up with more losses than usual which is nice for a more believable rank.

NBA 2K14 is 50% off on Steam right now and I've been looking to find a management game for a while. Hopefully I can figure out the answer to my question within the next 24hr.

^ Just spawned a new question. Is :joke: an under-used or under-rated emoticon here?

Neither. Most jokes here are rather obvious since we know the personalities we are speaking to, or they're indicated with a wink or tongue face.

This thread is to ask whatever question?

Should I post a piece of fiction here? The Civfanatics community is very intelligent compared to most of the web and the writing forum I go on has strict requirements before one can post their own work, which I don't have the time right now to fulfill. I just want some reviews.

Not this forum, but over in Arts you should. A couple members here have posted excerpts from their work in the past and received numerous reviews and critiques.

If a driveway were to be made out of plutonium 238, would that be sufficient to keep it ice and snow free during the winter for moderate accumulations?

I suppose that would depend on how thick the driveway was.

A normal depth of aggregate would do the job nicely I think. Maybe too well. It might melt your tyres as well.

Ok, i'm not that science and tech affine, so this may be way off due to oversight.
Also i'm lazy, so we'll recklessly round it.

Anywho:
We need roughly 400,000 joule to melt 1kg of of H20 (we have to apply heat worth 80° for the actual melting plus a few more degrees because the snow may be colder plus some leeway to compensate for the rounding i did - let's just call it 400,000).
Now 1kg of H2O (on a surface of 1 dm^2) is actually quite a bit, since we are essentially talking solid ice. So 1 kg may be one or two feet worth of snow, depending on how loose and fluffy the snow is.

If the driveway is sufficiantly insulated as to prevent significant loss of heat downwards and sideways and contains about 1cm worth of PU238 (i.e. roughly 2kg per dm^2) it would emmit about 1000 watt per dm^2. So it'd take somewhat longer than 400 seconds to melt reasonably non-cold (above -10°C) ice worth 10cm and even longer to melt the equivalent ammount of snow (due to air in the snow reducing heat conduction and things like that).

This is somewhat theoretical and all sorts of losses would have to be factored in, but still: It sounds feasable.
You could have calculated that yourself. :p

Though, alpha shmalpha, i still doubt this is healthy.
