It was a bit hard to swallow at first, but I thought long and hard and I think I've got my head around it now.

Would it be a wise move to simply abandon civilization and run off into the wild and become a hermit?

I'd just abandon Civilization by throwing away the respective DVD. A lot easier.

(this is actually what I thought about when I read the post)

Shady or full sun? Dark enough to sprinkle in some mushrooms? MMmmmm.

Oh definitely shady. Otherwise the authorities might get interested.

But I discourage fungi of every kind in my orchard.

Filth! Pure filth!

Wash your mouth out with soap and water this minute!

CavLancer & I have both done that [except for the "hermit" part]. CavLancer is from Oregon and I am from Los Angeles. We now live 100 meters apart on a beach in Bohol in the central Philippines. The nearest city is 1 1/2 hours away. It's great.

However, we both have steady streams of income, he from taking back a second mortgage on a duplex he sold in Oregon, me from a government pension. One does need things like food, medicines and internet.

 I would discourage you from becoming a hermit. Humanity a societal. IMHO, for anyone who isolates himself, it's only a matter of time before he'll become miserable because he's not living in compliance with his nature.

Do you guys civ together?

He tends to be out ahead of me. He was playing Civ 3 while I was clinging to Civ. 2. Once I moved up to Civ. 3, he convinced me to go out and buy Civ 4 and BTS. I feel a little smug in that I moved onto Civ. 5 before he did.

So, minor tech question.

I'm using Internet Explorer as my primary browser, and occasionally when I try and view youtube videos they come up as a blank screen with a grey dot and exclamation mark in the center of where the video would play. Sometimes I can make it go away by simply re-opening IE while other times I have to restart my computer. As far as I am aware, IE and Adobe are kept updated and there is no black screen coming up saying I have an outdated version of flash.
I don't think it is due to Adobe because youtube works just fine on firefox which I know I don't keep updated as I rarely use it.
Any ideas on what might be causing this or additional info I should include?

inb4 'IE SUXXXX!!!'

Sorry, I don't know what to tell you though as you've covered the suggestions I was going to give (make sure your browser and plug-ins are up to date).
:(

Does anyone know of a handy site that lists gun ownership or possession laws by state?

I would like to take a handgun to California but I don't know if that's legal. I am not going to conceal-carry (or carry at all) just have it in my apartment.

Is there a term for a reverse Electra complex, i.e. where a father has a complex for his daughter? For isntance, occasionally I hear about a Jocasta complex, a reverse Oedipus complex, where a mother has a complex for her son.

Sometimes Youtube goofs up on their end. I usually just restart flash and reload the page in FF, and maybe something similar would work for IE (thanks for the new head-shaped dent in my desk :mischief:).

Maybe the Rebecca complex?

I don't know. But I don't like the sound of it, whatever it's called.

Pedophile?
Perverted?
Possibly prosecutable?

Incestuous, certainly. Anything else and you're presupposing some of the terms of engagement.

Well, yes, but I think that's what it would tend to get called. Son to mother, daughter to father, mother to son, I think they are viewed fundamentally differently than father to daughter.

I guess we could go with - Pulling a Woody?

I've known a number of men who've claimed to have a "special" relationship with their daughter.

"That's my girl" can be something said with pride, after all.
