Is it considered okay to lust after your cousin if she isn't really related to you (adopted)?

Legally? Probably, yes. Socially? It's pretty squicky.

I recently got a new computer and downloaded Firefox, but clicking on a link (of any sort) has a small chance of redirecting me to a spam website. Here's the list of preinstalled add-ons, I've installed none myself:

1. OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc
2. Primetime Content Decryption Module provided by Adobe Systems, Incorporated
3. Shockwave Flash
4. Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc.
5. Adobe Acrobat
6. Google Update
7. Intel Identity Protection Technology
8. Intel Identity Protection Technology (it says this is to install and update the Intel web components, so not ostensibly a duplicate)
9. NVIDIA 3D Vision
10. NVIDIA 3D VISION (the only difference I see is that it does "streaming")
11. WildTangent Games App V2 Presence Detector

Any of these look malware-y?

Why does it come with preinstalled add-ons though? Doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of an add-on?

I have the first five of those plug-ins running, but I disabled Google Update and I don't have the others.

That one. It struck me straight away, eventually I was sent scrolling down the page when I clicked on ‘Reply’ and read Chukchi Husky's reply, so I'll second it.

Following up each of my questions:

1. How do I find a way to interact with my cousin, like a date, while keeping up the pretense of total platonism? I'm not going to tell her at this point, but I want to give her the opportunity to get close to me.

2. I downloaded Reason Core Security, removed the WildTangent add-on and at least two other malware programs, but I'm still seeing the occasional spam link (and popup, now). Anything else to try?

1) anything you can do away from your family. If there's a fun activity in town, whatever it is, even just some life music in the evening, ask her to come with you.
2) proper antivirus? Avira, Avast, anything? Alternatively: Install a linux ^^ (last Ubuntu/Kubuntu are rather user friendly...if you don't want to game ^^)

Have you scanned your PC with malwarebytes yet?

We don't live in the same town. I'd have to call or contact her online and make my pitch. Maybe the movies could work, but I've never understood why people use them for dates... I'm always too focused on the movie.

Yeah, I'm gonna do the Avast trial. It's a gaming laptop, so it would be pretty silly of me not to game. :smoke:

EDIT: The smart scan claims that there are no malware or viruses. Any further steps to take?

How much information do you already have invested into it? Might be the quickest solution is to wipe and reinstall OS.

Not worth it for a few popups, really.

I am not going to help you deceive anyone.

Many sites have their own popups no matter what you do. Regarding the spam links, are you using the latest version of your browser?
Also, why are you using Reason Core Security?

Mouthwash, being adopted means a certain alienation from family which is to be ameliorated, not taken advantage of. That your cousin is adopted doesn't make it better, it makes it worse. Now if you want to go see movies or whatever with her, that's cool. Being friends with cousins is a good thing. Being able to energize them by being a little flirty is fine. If you guys end up closer than decorum, f decorum. But the whole "well its okay because she's adopted" is bad. Don't treat her like she's not real family because of bloodlines.

Don't lie to her. If you like her and want to make a move, tell her how you feel. Don't "befriend" her if your sole motivation in doing so is to girlfriend her when the moment is right. That's horsehockey and manipulative, and will almost certainly backfire on you.

You gotta take your fighter in for a landing, not slowly fly up to the carrier deck. You'll never get it doing it that way.

Bloodlines are what makes the taboo. You know, deformed children and all that. Power play would be quite rare for cousins unless family is tight knit. Regardless, cousin marriage is widely legal.

 I'm laying a breadcrumb trail; she can choose whether to follow it or not. No deception involved, beyond what anyone else does on a regular basis (unless you're telling me that you've never done anything similar with your crushes? Always totally upfront from the start?).

Yup.

It was in the link Arakhor provided. It looked decent, so I kept it.

She isn't totally adopted, my first blood cousin is her stepfather. And I have literally dozens- maybe over a hundred- family members on my father's side. We're basically a clan at this point.

From the way people are talking you'd think I was asking how to slip her roofies. :shifty:

I would know if she was into me, that's why I said I would let her make the first move. If not, then it's great to have another friend, I guess.
