What do the Canadians Thankgsgive for?
Probably the same variety of things the Americans do - it makes more sense to do it in October in my opinion, since winter usually hasn't come yet. Some people get in one last long weekend of camping (Thanksgiving is always the 2nd Monday in October). And in any case, it's a stat holiday on a long weekend that's a good enough reason in itself to enjoy it. In 2015 that was the year of the advance polls for the federal election and the country learned that the Reformacon-hired Elections Canada workers decided that following the rules was optional.

Back in the '80s and '90s I used to spend Thanksgiving weekend at science fiction conventions in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, or Banff (BanffCon was fun - staying in a hotel in the mountains, defending Alberta's honor in a game of Aggravation when my opponent was from one of the Vancouver science fiction groups, and taking part in an all-day filking workshop; that was the year the songs I wrote were first performed in an actual filking session). I got to meet various SF/F authors over the years, and I'd have my Thanksgiving dinner on Monday night (my grandmother would set aside some turkey, dressing, potatoes, vegetables, and pie).

Of course it was a bit of a challenge during the years when I was still in college. The first year I went to a convention I had to bring a couple of physical anthropology books along to study, since the midterm exam was coming up on Tuesday. And then there was the year I'd been wracking my head for a topic for my sociology term paper, when the instructor himself suggested I write it about science fiction. After all, his relative was Orson Scott Card, who was the GoH at the convention I was going to that weekend... So I went to the convention guilt-free and wrote the paper mostly off the top of my head on Monday and handed it in on Tuesday.

Out of curiosity, exactly how old is CFC?

Thunderfall has been a member since 26th Oct, 2000, so that's probably a good estimate.

I was wondering because apparently Apolyton is now officially 20 years old.

Yes starting from Novi, western suburbs of detroit. I don't really want to go up north in michigan cus we've done that before. Minnesota sounds cool, I have heard the twin cities are awesome to hang at.

We're the Google to their Yahoo!.

What's that dance kinda thing I see now and again (in a Target commercial most recently) where people hold their arms straight down and then kinda swing one in front of them and the other in back of them?

An Stupid Annoying Dance.

Does anyone know any good manufacturers or reputable places I can buy a lava lamp? I've always wanted one and thinking about getting myself one for my birthday but don't want to get a crappy one.

They are very simple technology that's hard to mess up. I wouldn't worry about a picking a specific brand to be honest. I have a cheap one from Wal Mart made of chinesium and it's still good 6 or so years later.

Just get the original: https://lavalamp.com/

My dad bought a lava lamp in Futureshop long ago. It broke about a year before I moved out so it lasted a solid 7 years. For $60 that isn't so bad. They're cheaper these days. The kind he got is less than $30 now.

Thanks guys!
