You don't expect people to actually read the contracts they sign, do you?

When I got my flu shot this year (at a community flu shot event), I was the only one to read the papers I signed, according to the flu-shot givers. The papers referred to both a privacy policy (which they did have) and an opt-out form for something that I no longer remember. When I asked about the opt-out form, the flu-shot givers had no idea what I was talking about. Apparently no-one in their office had ever read the papers, either, since they didn't have the required supplementary forms.

I glanced at the papers and just told the pharmacist that I've been getting flu shots for many years, never had any really bad reactions - just the usual few days of soreness and fatigue, no egg allergies, and let's please just get it over with. The pharmacist this year was so good at it that I didn't feel any pain at all when he gave me the shot.

I had to laugh, though; at clinics they want you to sit for 15 minutes to make sure that if you have a bad reaction (like fainting), you're going to do it there instead of in the car. What they told me at the pharmacy (located in the local Walmart) was, "Don't leave the store for 15-20 minutes". I guess they weren't too concerned that somebody over in the pet department or the housewares department might have to pick me up off the floor, when there was a perfectly good vacant bench right outside the pharmacy... :shake:

I'm glad I got it done, though. There have been a lot of people hospitalized and one person in Calgary (where most of the cases have been so far) has died.
 
When I had a surgical procedure below the waist a few years ago, the nurse told me that people are liable to feel faint when leaving the room and I should be careful. My body promptly told my brain to hold its beer and I managed to almost faint just trying to sit up on the bed. The hospital insisted I took a taxi home, just in case I did it again before getting home.

They claim it is a "working revolver." The caliber is about the size of a finishing nail, though the projectile has to be just like the bare tip of the nail. I'd be really interested in a comparison between the muzzle velocity and that of a regular pneumatic nail gun. I would definitely want to test it on a couple of less dangerous subjects before battling an invading arthropod.
 
Today I learned that smoking cigarettes has a correlation with lower risk of Parkinson's Disease. It's still a bad idea to take up smoking though.

EDIT: I dug around some more. It seems nicotine on its own has some neuroprotective effects. So you don't even need to take up smoking for that.

Similarly, a drink every day might have some minor health benefits, but it's still a bad idea to drink too much.

i would so let you shoot me. Remember m * v? The bullet is teeny. There's almost no powder. So itty-bitty mass times itty-bitty velocity. I'll bet it wouldn't break the skin. :p
 
Today I learned that some idiots think that 18,000-piece jigsaw puzzles are a good thing.

They're also expensive, at over $200.

And considering that I just had to delete a really gorgeous 39" 1500-piece jigsaw puzzle from my wish list (the largest table I have is barely 35"), I can't imagine how much room an 18,000-piece puzzle would take up.
 
Couldn't you have assemble it on the floor instead? (I suppose it could be a problem with the cats and your mobility issues)

Where would I put the furniture? :confused: I've got bookshelves all over the place, not to mention various other things.

I'm still trying to think of a foolproof way to keep Maddy off the table I intend to use to do some of the other puzzles I have (I've got quite a collection by now; bad Mary Maxim, offering me a buy 3, get 1 free/25% discount/free shipping over $70 deal for Black Friday, not to mention a further 40% discount on one item/free shipping with no minimum for Cyber Monday - I have no willpower when it comes to deals like these!).

To do an 18,000-piece puzzle I'd need a large patch of floor with tile, not carpet, and would have to start in the middle, rather than assemble the edge pieces first. I'd also need to be able to avoid stepping on the thing.

Alas, they're really nice pictures, but only someone with a humongous table would be able to do them. I'm limited to what will fit on a card table, since I don't own a dining table.
 
I didn't mean for the 18k-piece puzzle, just for the 39" 1500-piece one.

Shopping around pays. I found some for just under a hundred, and a pretty good selection at under one twenty.

However, two meters by three meters is the approximate size, so, yeah, tables are out. Definitely a floor project.
