Atlee was made an Earl, but his grandson has no children at the age of 65, so it will almost certainly die with him.

Not being British and not having "skin in the game", I like your monarchy. Charles, not so much. I guess we'll see how he does. I'm looking forward to William though. England without its Queens and Kings would be pretty ordinary.

The Crown of England still rules Australia by way of a Govenor General.

Recent dodgy dealings including the former Conservative government will also motivate discussion for a Republic again.

Last time it was defeated because monarchist conservatives were in government.

I'm listening to the BBC coverage. It's already weird to hear "King Charles."

The timing of this actually works in William's favor, given that his children are still pretty young. I've read some of the royal biographies that mentioned that there were times when the Queen was separated from her children for long periods of time when she and Philip were making extended visits to various countries.

My day for getting details wrong. Still, baron is an inheritable title, except when created as a life peerage in recent years.

The video is geoblocked. What's going on?
Sex Pistols - God Save the Queen.

The lyric does include "We love our queen... God saaave."

It is widely misunderstood. He is not against the individual but against the institution of monarchy.

Royal Assent is the final defense against PMs or premiers who run amok or if there are other constitutional problems that may cause chaos.

Therefore, I think it should be kept.

@Synobun: Have a look at the UCP leadership race in Alberta, and take note that the frontrunner (Danielle Smith) wants to enact legislation that would allow the government of Alberta to ignore any federal laws they want to ignore. This goes beyond the notwithstanding clause and would result in chaos here. The Lieutenant-Governor has stated that it's not a given that she would just rubber-stamp her signature for Royal Assent.

Reading an article on the BBC it was odd to see a reference to His Majesty The King.

I doubt Johnny Rotten will be re recording it to reflect the new anthem.

I just generally do not find an unelected god-emperor intervening in the actions of an elected official to be a charming feature rather than a colossally corrupt bug.
