Doing a little research on Japan, I found a poll taken in 2019 by the Mainichi Shimbun:

Keep the system as it is: 74%
Abolish the monarchy: 7%
Give the Emperor more political power: 4%

Monarchy and all forms of aristocratic hierarchy are fundamentally bad and should be abolished. Any form of social relations whereby one group is to be esteemed and advantaged with material, legal and social privileges merely for the accident of their parentage or some imagined magical qualities ascribed to their blood should not exist. And those who cling to those privileges and refuse to relinquish them voluntarily ought to be put to the sword.
Do that to rest of Monarchy in Europe and Japan.
Yeah not going to happen sorry. Plus Compared to other monarchies (Albert II, prince of Monaco) charles isn't that bad

As Korean- New Zealander I'd say give more power to Emperor of Japan considering how pro-peace the guy is.

What I believe Japanese people are doing right is that they keep the life of the Emperor very secret. He hardly ever adresses to his subjects, and if he does so, it's only very formally. Even though the protocol of the British monarchy requires many more public appearances, Elizabeth did that right to express very little. They are supposed to embody whole nations, so the less they talk, the less they divide.

Monarchs in representative democracies ultimately have to live their whole life as hermits.

Yes. They should all be deposed and stripped of all privileges, or else guillotined if they refuse.
Lolz you are delusional if you think that's possible. Say that to average citizens of Japan and they will look at you as if you are insane. And think you deserve to be locked in coco hospital

Honestly I think at worst the royals might have less influnce than before. At this troubling times I don't think getting rid of the king is priority.

Not strictly true. Constitutional Monarchy for example is the most stable government form iirc.

Here is Japanese guy explaining why Japan still has emperor.
I think what he says can be applied to Britain... why abolish it?

It is extremely time to become a parliamentary republic. It already was before she carked it.

Monarchy is the one form of aristocratic hierarchy I'm comfortable keeping.

As a constitutional device it benefits our democracy by weakening the symbolic power of whoever is our political leader at any given moment.

If not for monarchy, Liz Truss would now be the head of our nation.

As much as I'm not a fan of Chuck 3, his coronation fills me with infinitely less dread than that.

This. Look at Trump, or Eastern Europe or Brazil maybe even France for elected presidents.

And yet, in all the ways that matter, Truss is Prime Minister. The monarchy hasn't gone against a Parliamentary decision in how long, exactly?

When was the last time UK had and authoritarian strongman type PM?

See previous comment about egos.

True but it is still a comfort blanket to think she isn't only representative of your country. At this I envy Britain. I would rather have Charles than that pig and bug of a president.

Scomo unrestrained for Australia. That's president Scomo to the likes of you plebs.

Yes. They should all be deposed and stripped of all privileges, or else turned over to the guillotine if they refuse.
Moderator Action: No more talk of executing those you don't like.
