As a paid up member of Republic, i would rather see the monarchy disbanded. Its an anachronism sustained by the mysticism of pageantry. I would never have advocated that whilst Elizabeth was in the throne. But now she has died i think that conversation ought to be had on a more serious level. Im not expecting it to come true mind. But a huge slimming down of the nobility and a removal of all their wealth and privilege at no compensation to them is in order. Get rid of inherrited titles and the vast freeholders that they own and tax at our expense and give it to the state. Get rid of the leeches and if you really must have a royal family, then it is but a single one and a single line.

Let's not lose our heads here.

Obviously, I voted for radioactive monkeys.

The risk is that someone else will get a sword lobbed at them, by mystical forces that have warned us for generations to stop messing around.

people detailed for the funeral . She was generally against projects people in Washington and London regularly came up with . Not particularly she liked Turks but the world she grew up in and so on . Actually refused to get involved in the city vs r16 thing but she would get a Rest in Peace without that .

Strange women, lying in ponds, distributing swords is no basis for a system of government!

I don't think it would be a good idea to elect a president and given them the same powers as the queen had. So, this should be accompanied by some major constitutional reforms. Might as well federalize Britain while you're at it.

But what powers would we need to give anyone? They are basically interfere in any law that might make them less rich, and being able to unilaterally go to war. I am not sure those are vital for the running of the country.

I did some googling and the Royal Family is just given over a hundred million pounds a year. The Royal family is estimated to be worth 70-something billion pounds.
Seems like the UK has a lot to gain by getting rid of the monarchy, is what I'm trying to say.

Also whenever a royal dies we have to put up with awful TV when all the main channels insist on showing versions of the same program and the ad breaks are replaced by a station logo which makes you realise just how much of your life you spend watching bleeping adverts.

Somehow the Prime Minister needs to get into office, Parliament needs to be summoned and dissolved, someone needs to be Head of the Armed Forces, and so on. This can all be solved without a head of state, but it needs constitutional reforms.

I am not a big fan of either the glitter or the gossip news that the royal familty radiates, but I am mostly just curious about what does the Monarchy do bad to you, as citizens of England.
How getting rid of the monarchy is of any benefit.

Personally I see that the royalty plays a huge part of the appeal for Britain around the world. It sparks Anglophilia for many people. Also, as sung above - tourists are money.

Yes, taxes are money as well, but do we know if the royal needs takes more money than it creates?
Are there any other reasons why some people want to activly abolish the monarchy?
Is it just a feeling of part-alienation, like I described in my first line here?

Monarchy and all forms of aristocratic hierarchy are fundamentally bad and should be abolished. Any form of social relations whereby one group is to be esteemed and advantaged with material, legal and social privileges merely for the accident of their parentage or some imagined magical qualities ascribed to their blood should not exist. And those who cling to those privileges and refuse to relinquish them voluntarily ought to be put to the sword.
