TNESI: The Glorious Mysteries

I was unaware of this informal allaince with Genoa. Cool, informal allies!

And Thayli, there shall be stories once homework is done. Though in another Multiverse the Leperchauns are focusing on trying to beat back the Imperialist Polar Bears and their Limey comrades. It is said they are employing some kind of Icey Eye.

@Thlayli- When is the deadline.

@Alex- On that note, the next time I can get on chat is wednesday and it will be limited because of homework... I have Cadet training tonight, Band and Marksmanship tomorrow and somehow I must finish my Science project before the end of the week. That involves a lot of drawings of cells...

Emperor Leopold I "The Gallant"
225px-LeopoldVI.jpg

Date: January 10, 1501

Originally Written by Franz Hollenbach, Scholar for the University of Vienna

The tale of our Emperor is one that could fill several novels of great length. It is my job to compress this into a short, concise essay of truth that still projects his character. I hope I fulfill this project to your satisfaction.

Our story begins of course with his own beginning. He was born in 1465, another peasant child in a sea of poverty in the slums of Vienna. When a wave of disease struck the city, young Leopold was only fifteen years of age. He watched as his family died around him, one by one falling prey to the deadly disease. With nothing to live for and no one to help him, he wished for the disease to capture him with its fatal claws. Yet it never came. Out of the many members of his family located in Vienna, Leopold would be one of the few to survive. Some might have been permanently damaged by this turn of events, but this is where Leopold makes his distinction from the rest of us.

His survival against great odds made him realize his time on this Earth was limited. He was also largely dependent on himself now, and he knew it would be hard to live, nonetheless succeed in this world. Thus, at the age of the sixteen, Leopold enlisted in the Austrian army.

He quickly rose in the ranks as he impressed his higher ups in training and especially in battle. That would lead to his moment of glory, the war with the Anti-Austrian Italians. Leopold personally led several regiments into Venice, the first attackers of the city, the ones that would eventually storm the city walls and take it for Austria.

Leopold would be seen as the hero of that battle, and of the war overall. Before long, he was appointed as head general in charge of the entire Austrian army. His power and political sway in the Empire had now grown exponentially, and besides the Hapsburgs themselves, he was the most powerful man in the country. He was well liked for his charisma, and his speeches were of legendary caliber, as one soldier once said, "Leopold...could give a speech, and a thousand cowardly men would become raging savages in thier places."

He also developed a close bond with the ruling Hapsburg family. Whether this relationship was intentional for furthering his own power or for other legitimate purposes, it is no surprise that when Maximilian I ascended the throne...and with no male heirs...General Leopold would be selected to sucede him. He would marry with a daughter of the Hapsburgs to ensure the line would continue, but the reign of Leopold I existing at all is a marvel in and of itself.

So there you have it. Not great by my standards, but when talking about a particular manner such as a great person or event, I choose to go straight the point.

Reposting some diplomacy that might have been overlooked with the BLITZKRIEG of diplomacy on that first day of the NES' opening. ;)

From: Leopold I of the Holy Austrian Empire
To: Swiss Republic

Times in Europe are confusing, to say the least. I have maps all around me in my study, one for my lands, several for Germany, another for Italy, and another for the New World. There is one thing we can do too make things easier on us both, which is why I extend the offer of a mutual protection pact to your nation. The Swiss are an industrious people of unbreakable will as history has shown, we would rather be on the side of that than against it.

From: Leopold I of the Holy Austrian Empire
To: Kingdom of Lombardy

Let us continue our friendship, by first signing a defensive pact that will ensure your safety from outside aggression. We also offer you a duchess or duke, whichever pleases you, for royal marriage that will forever cement this guarantee.

From: Leopold I of the Holy Austrian Empire
To: The Papal States

To ensure that the power of the Roman Catholic church never wanes, I hearby request for the Pope's public blessing of I, King Leopold I. We also request the status of "defender of the Catholic faith" be bestowed upon the Holy Austrian Empire.

From: Leopold I of the Holy Austrian Empire
To: Prague Confederacy

Brothers to the north, we are not much different. We should ally to protect our mutual interests.

OOC: I believe the swiss already answered. Something about rather see you in hell.

Oh, how pleasant. Damn ho's.

Also, you already nabbed defender of the catholic faith, the pope confirmed it somewhere.

FROM: Second Leonese Empire
TO: Holy Austrian Empire, the Papal States (NPC)

We propose an alliance of the two great Catholic empires, pledging to defend the Faith against all those who would seek to destroy it. With the blessings of the Holy Father, we shall bring glory to the name of the Christ Jesus.

From Bavaria
To Second Leonese Empire, Holy Austrian Empire, and the Papal States

We are all defenders of the Catholic faith and purpose a much large alliance be made including all of us. A name can be decided upon latter but we wish to see what all the following parties think of such an alliance?

To the Byzantine Empire and His Holliness the Patriarch of Constantinople
From the Irish Empire and Her Holliness the Matriarch of Gallimhe, Cill-Dara, and Ard-Mhacha

It is the request of Her Holliness that the Matriarchate and Patriarchate begin dialogue to bring an end to this horrible seperation that has driven a wedge between the good Christians of our lands. May the Holy Apostles St. Patrick, St. Brighid, and St. Columba pray for you and the Holy Virgin guide Her Blessed Son to bring you salvation.

We would not be averse to a dialogue between our two Christian churches. The divisions between Christians, and the classifications of the lords children under several separate entities shall only lead to a further degradation of the Christian world.

That's why its the HOLY Austrian Empire (the Pope is an Austrian puppet, after all ;) ).

Indeed, I wasn't complaining, merely letting him know part of his diplo had been replied to ;) He has his puppet, I have my autonomy, its all good. I can still call myself Protector of the Catholic Church or some other such fancy name :D

@Panda: Oh, sorry. The Papal States refuse that too. *refers to above Austrian puppet remarks* And your leadership is Better/Good.

@Azale: I think that I answered all of your diplo. Prague (I might have forgotten them) counterproposes a 10 year NAP.

@Icmancin: The deadline is, and always will be for the time being, 3 PM EST on Friday.

@Cuivienen: It'll fluctuate a little. In years with little war, the turn could be 3-5 years long. Conversely, if lots of conflicts are occurring I'll probably keep to 1 year per update.

In all the diplo addressed jointly to Austria and the Papal States, the Papal States will concur with whatever Austria says.

Must we pay this vile tribute? Our children will starve, and our people will riot! But if you insist...

From: Principality of Tver
To: The Golden Horde

We will pay your tribute once, as thanks for the security that you have given us. But demand payment again and we may see fit to sever our bonds. We must remind you that we are your loyal servants...but servants can only be pushed so far.

Our tax collectors indicate that you have generate 2,000,000 rubles of revenue a year. The 1,000,000 rubles that you are left with is more than sufficent to pay our tribute. However if you feel that you cannot pay this we will let it be for now, however we expect you to obey us when called upon to do so.

Have the lessons of the past been forgotten so soon? The dog does not dictate to its master. Mongol power has not waned to such an extent that we will brook such insubortination among our vassals. Remember that you rule only at our convieniance, and as we made you we can unmake you equally easily...or would you perhaps prefer to be conquered by the Galacians, Lithuanians, or Swedes? Our protection is not free of charge...

Why is it that everyone seems to think war is the only interesting thing that ever goes on in the world? I'm sick of the idea that times of World War are any more or less interesting than great political or social movements; no one time period is ever truly more or less exciting than any other.

We can agree to this wholeheartedly! We accept the Leonese proposal as well, so we see no reason why this can not be accomplished.

How about the League of Extraodinary Holymen? :p

We can accept this.

@thlayli, your right, I did not notice. My bad ;)

Np Azale.

Orders are due in 3 days.

We have for years loyally served you, and are stunned at the impudence at which you address us. We are servants, yes, but not dogs to be kicked around. As we said, you will have your gold, whatever the cost to us both. But demand it not again, or there will be blood.
