A few more broken Doric columns won't add much to what we know, but all this art will add substantially to our knowledge of prehistory.

There is always a toll in this type of case. Ultimately, though, I am sure you see that you are comparing things of different quality, and arguably the toll is insignificant in regards to not paying attention to the former; it is highly unlikely things worth global attention will come out of this. So don't encourage the toll, or you risk more of this type of nested sentence connoting both boredom and a little disgust :)

maybe hundreds of years of their history on 8 miles of wall... I hope one day we can 'read' it

From some of the images, it doesn't really look like history. Eg one apparently shows some jubilant people with erections.
At best part of some mythology. And perhaps just wishful thinking (cause iirc that is what most wallpainting is supposed to be) ^_^

TIL - [In the Great Depression] Democrats coined many terms based on opinions of Herbert Hoover such as "Hoover blanket" (old newspaper used as blanketing). A "Hoover flag" was an empty pocket turned inside out and "Hoover leather" was cardboard used to line a shoe when the sole wore through. A "Hoover wagon" was an automobile with horses hitched to it, often with the engine removed.

Can we think of any good ones for Trump?

Trump comb-over: a failed attempt to hide reality.
It's just a long red tie: a distraction from the ugly truth
Golfing with Trump: Brown nosing or sucking up to someone in power for personal benefit

I had known little of this before. :hammer2: I'd heard of James II in the movie Captain Blood, which ends with Errol Flynn announcing to his men that King James had been replaced by "Good King William"! And I knew that the Glorious Revolution was so popular:beer: that when the America colonies rebelled, they didn't call their uprising "the American Rebellion," but rather the "American Revolution." I also learned that William and Mary ruled England as a co-sovereignty. :high5:

It was less that it was popular and more that it was successful. James II may have been a rotten king, but he was the king, and Parliament was acting quite illegally when they declared James deposed and invited his daughter and her husband to rule in his place.

It was was also rather short-sighted, as neither Mary nor Anne were able to produce heirs that survived them, leading to the Hanoverian Succession, unlike James's descendants who lasted until 1807 (and that's because the last of the male line was Henry, Cardinal Stuart).

And there was the whole Ireland thing as well...

I'm not sure which "Ireland thing" you're referring to, which is pretty damning of this country in the first place.

TIL that the youtube robots.txt says:
# robots.txt file for YouTube
# Created in the distant future (the year 2000) after
# the robotic uprising of the mid 90's which wiped out all humans.

The House voted to end federal marijuana prohibition... the bill includes a 5% tax on pot that will be used to pay for various programs in communities negatively impacted by the drug war. The conservative, small government party voted overwhelmingly against freedom.

See how they're gonna make drug users pay reparations to victims of the drug war?
