Teaser looks good. Also the new engine (with magic) will allow for a lot more mods to be made ;)

It looks like it may have a special over-beast as well, or a group of those, which is another cool feature for mods.

What do you think of the new WH game?

So they actually did it huh? I've been hearing rumors of this for about a year or two now and it looks like those rumors finally turned out to be true.

The trailer does look good, but it seems too early to tell if this will be good or not. All we can hope for is this will not be the disaster that Rome 2: Total War was.

I'm really fatigued by anything sword & sorcery these days. It doesn't matter how well-executed it is, if they can't shake the material out of its creative rut, I take a pass. Orcs, elves, zombies, pseudo-Middle Ages European people and places... I just can't do it anymore.

The first person to make a decent game based on China Mieville's Bas Lag novels can have my $50. Where is Empire: Azteca or an RPG set in a fantastical, magical version of pre-colonial West Africa?

The only Warhammer I know is also 40k. I also played a Warhammer game once and God was it boring.

There's a 40k MMO in development. I don't know if it's an RPG or more of a Planetside-style wargame.

Maybe the media is oversaturated with fantasy right now, but I've always thought the genre lends itself well to regiment-level real-time tactics and that hasn't really been implemented in a modern game yet.

I trust that Creative Assembly will produce a good-looking game that lends itself well to trailers. I also trust that the strategy layer and AI will be annoying and lackluster.

You can also trust that there'll be a meticulously researched mod that follows canon to the last letter.

Yeah, but what's the point if it runs on top of terrible game design principles?

There already have been massive (and numerous) TW (eg Medieval 2: TW) mods of Warhammer, so this new game surely will have no lack of interested modders :D

And the best thing likely is the new options in the game engine, magical units can be modded to missiles or even atomic bombs i suppose, as well as a ton of other fantasy stuff like Cthulhu.

Of course the trailer looks good. it's a CGI trailer that doesn't show us anything about the game. The actual screenshots and "gameplay scences" won't look as good, and the finished game won't look as good as those.
It could still be a great game. Maybe there's some law concerning Total War games like the old Star Trek curse (even: bad, uneven: good, divisible by five: utter garbage) and it's time for a really good one.
The Warhammer setting is an iteresting twist and has more to offer than medievalesque Fantasy. I just hope that the most interesting factions aren't day one DLC.

You are counting on CA to have made a substantial breakthrough in this area then?

Well, given that the last really good Total War game was Rome (the first one), as far as I'm concerned, this is a massive waste of a licence. Why can't GW just get someone to make Dark Omen 2?

No interest whatsoever from me. I was hoping for something set in 1500-1700, or 1815-1914 or so, but I'd heard this was coming.

Really, if I had to have a Total War game based on a fictional universe, I'd want one set in the Mass Effect universe on Tuchanka shortly after the krogan developed firearms. But without any humans involved, I imagine most people wouldn't be that interested.

This sounds pretty cool, but I am reserving judgment until I see more details.

Given the response to Rome II I am likely not to buy this without being able to first read reviews and such.
